Brother We Visited During TCE Passed Away
As salaamu Alaikum
Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'oon I wanted to relay that the brother mentioned in the SimplyAct announcement on Saturday @ TCE passed away on Sunday. Alhamdulillah we had over 15 brothers come with us during the lunch break to visit him, so it's comforting to know that we upheld the brotherhood in his final days even though we did not know him. We had brothers from NJ, NY, and Boston. Such is the transience of life; we visited him on Saturday, gave him company and left him with some books to benefit from, were getting the CareMail card signed, and were going to bring it to him along with a CD player and Qur'an CDs on Monday, but he passed away on Sunday. This brother did not have much (or any) family and friends in the area, so it was up to us to be there for him, and Alhamdulillah we fulfilled that opportunity. May Allah (SWT) Forgive his sins and enter him into Jannah. May Allah (SWT) Reward all those who visited with us, those who intended to do so, and those who made dua for the brother. The Prophet (S) said: "When a man goes to visit his sick Muslim brother, he walks along a path of Paradise until he sits , and when he sits he is cloaked in mercy. If he comes in the morning, seventy thousand angels pray for him until evening, and if he comes in the evening, seventy thousand angels pray for him until morning."
Reference: At-Tirmithi, Ibn Majah, Ahmad. See, Al-Albani, Sahih Ibn Majah 1/244, and Sahih At-Tirmithi 1/286. It was also graded authentic by Ahmad Shakir. [Background if you weren't @ TCE: Last Monday I received an email about a terminally ill brother who was in a hospice nearby; not much in terms of family/friends in the area. Alhamdulillah a few brothers visited him throughout the week, and then on Saturday we took several brothers during the lunch break to visit him. On Sunday he passed away.]

Re: Brother We Visited During TCE Passed Away
Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Rajiun
SubhanAllah! This really got me into a deep state of reflection, about how life is so temporary and how we may spend time with each other today, yet not have the opportunity to do so tomorrow. It's so important to ensure that we always surround ourselves with the best of people. Our iman is always on a slope, either in a state of incline or in a state of decline. What matters most is which way you're headed at the end. No matter how religious you are, if you surround yourself with friends that do not fear Allah (swt), are full of bad habits, versed with bad speech, and engaging in evil acts, then you will eventually begin to acquire traits from them. Yet on the contrary, if you are always surrounding yourself with people that are better than you and in remebrance of Allah (swt), then consequently, it will be of benefit to you and your iman. A reminder for all of us, that when we come together with friends, family, or any group of people, we should always mention and remember Allah (swt). For a meeting without the remembrance of Allah (swt) is one that will serve no benefit in our ultimate records. May Allah (swt) reward all of those who went to visit our brother, as well as those who kept him in their du'aas. Ameen. The greatest tragedy is not death itself, but rather, those who do not reflect and learn from it. Let us all take account of ourselves before account is taken of us. |

inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'oon.
It may be that he is one of those slaves of Allah - not known to the people on the earth, but well known with Him and the inhabitants of the heavens. May Allah ta'ala forgive him, have mercy on him, widen his grave, make what is ahead of him better than what he left behind and enter him into Jannah bi ghayri hisaab. May Allah azza wa jal reward the durbah volunteers and all Muslims who take care of this sacred right of visiting their fellow Muslim who is sick.

inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'oon. May Allah make his stay in the grave but one step in his journey to Jannahtul firdaws and may Allah reward all the brothers who brought smiles to his face in his last days. May Allah unite you all with your brother in jannah. Ameen.

Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji`oon.
What about the janaazah prayer and his funeral? Every Muslim has five rights due to him from his fellow Muslims : Returning his greetings of salaam [peace], visiting him when he is sick, following his bier, praying for his well being when he sneezes and giving him advice if he seeks it. Sahih Al-Bukhari, vol.2, pp.187-88, no.332, Sahih Muslim, vol.3, p.1183, no.5378, Sunan Abu Dawud, vol.3, p.1398, no.5012, Sunan Ibn-i-Majah,vol.2, p.360, no.1435 and Mishkat Al-Masabih, vol.1, p.320.

As salaamu Alaikum
The janaza took place on Monday. Please stay tuned as we will likely be posting a link to contribute for the funeral costs.

Re: Brother We Visited During TCE Passed Away
Even in his condition, which was painful to look at, he kept saying "Alhamdulillah" in his weakly and barely audible voice. And he offered his cup of water as a drink; still considerate for his visitors. As we were leaving he said that he was making dua for all of us.
On one of the days I went last week, there was another brother there so we were able to put him in a wheelchair and get a portable oxygen tank and wheel him over to the activity room. Why did he want to go to the activity room? Was there some technological gadget there? Or a new social media site he needed to log on to? No. Instead, he simply wanted to look outside the window; look outside and take in whatever sunlight was available, admire the sky, the trees. I shared something with the SimplyAct volunteers a couple of weeks ago: When you're able to get excited about and find joy in the simple things in life, that's when you're rich. Often times we spend our life chasing after things we don't have, and in the process we neglect everything that's already around us and much more valuable: family, the beauty of nature, and millions of other things. But by the time we realize this, it's too late. |
