Assalamu Aleikum

Is the saying of Sadaq 'Allahu al-Adheem after reading Qur'an or a Surah an innovation?

I'd really like to know whether saying Sadaq'Allah al-Azeem at the end of surahs is bid'aah. My mother and I were discussing this the other day and we realized we'd never heard of the Prophet saying it or anything. Does anyone know of any hadeeth which mention this? Or any fatwas which could shed light on the issue?

Salam

Asalamu alaikum warahmatullaahi wabarakaatuhu

in the "Touched By An Angel" Tafseer Juz Amma CD set, Muhammad Alshareef explains this issue very nicely mashaa allaah. If you don't already have it, you MUST get it! It's excellent! mashaa allaah laa quwwata illa billaah!

Assalamo alaikum!

Personally, what I do is, firstly, (as the fatwa from Islam-QA says) not say it every time, and, secondly, if I feel the urge to say something after finishing recitation, I say a non pre-determined utterance like "Allahu Akbar" or "Alhamdulillah" or "Subhaan Allah", etc. I hope this does not make it a ritual (which I sense from the fatwa is what should be avoided).

I used to have a tape of sheikh Muhammad Siddiq Minshawi where he recited the last few verses of Surah Fajr, ending with "wa 'dkhulee jannatee" and, after putting in a lot of obvious passion into the recital of these great aayaat, he spontaneously--or so it seemed to me--ended with an exclamation of "Allahu Akbar!".

It felt very, very appropriate given the greatness of these verses, containing the description of a soul being ushered into Paradise.
