Asalamu Alaikum

2 more months and insh Allah we will have our next class: Fiqh of Worship 2, taught by Muhammad Alshareef.

Our fist class Fiqh Ad Dawah we had: 70 people
Second Class: Usool Al Fiqh: 85 people

THe goal for our third class is 200!

I want to start up this discussion, and everyone give your feedback. How are we going to meet that goal? Give your ideas and suggestions in terms of advertising, marketing, registration.

Advertising:
"Flash" cards. I'm not sure if that's what it's called, but I've seen this cards that sort of flash. Depending on the angle you hold them they either flash different colors or they change pictures. Does anyone know what I mean?
Anyway, it'd be cool to have this type of flyer to give ppl after jum'a and what not.

Also, we can write personalized letters to all who have attended an AlMaghrib class in Montreal (whether they are Montrealers or out of towners) inviting them to this class. We can also send letter to the mala' of Montreal, from the uncles to the students to the chotus :)

Registration:
Let's give the "referrel" system one more shot, but this time have a form AT THE DOOR for the people to sign inshAllah.

That's all I got :)

Assalamu Alaykum,

We can also ask any Asadian to bring at least three new people with them for this seminar; if at least 2/3 of the last Usool Fiqh attendance was Asadians then if they'll bring three persons that would be Inshaa Allah 170 already; come on it should'nt be that difficult!!!

And this needs to be advertised more in the french community (usually young french brs ans srs speak english too!);

Perhaps try to find also an Asadian in each MSA of Montreal to talk about it in his/her MSA or at least to put flyers with info about Al Maghrib in their Musalla.

Wa salam.

assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu

something i read on one of the other qabeelat boards

advertising in masjids
think of how many people we will hit by advertising at jumaah time in all masjids -peak attendance time

1- billboards
nice big signs in the front of every masjid for the brs& srs to see as they enter and leave. on the front lawn & in the parking lot. not a small regular poster. big huge eye-catching signs

2- chalk messages on the pavement
using colurful street chalk to write messages on the sidewalks and in parking lot for people to read as they walk to masjid. [chalk will wash off] not a long message, can be just a few words, to get the thought into their minds. then they will see the signs and once inside the masjid, there can be posters, flyers etc. to fill them in on the details.

-

some other ideas:

- promo event like a lecture/dinner
- promo event like a bbq picnic/unity halaqa
- promo event like iftar
- promo event like qiyam ul layl at masjid

also, we need to get a few mala aunties & uncles to help us get word to the auntie/uncle crowd. their support will really help us. they can bring their friends & their kids

if we can find which neighbourhoods are predominantly muslim, we can send flyers to their homes thru publisac [49$ for 1,000 flyers]

I think by flash cards, Sh. Abdulbary means index cards (I think I saw them in the dollar store?) Unless there exists another types of cards called "flash cards" o.O...

Yeah Manz, I know what you mean, the hologram cards, I have this star trek hologram card of Captain Jean-Luc.... Anyways, do printing shops actually do that?

Also, I second all the above ideas, very good suggestions so long as they're implemented.

Making sure that those who attended before attend again will get a good chunk of people since they know how beneficial (and fun) the classes are.

If there was some way to actually transmit the feeling of being in the class and the benefits reaped, Im sure more people would be willing to come. The reality is that unless we give them a good reason to attend people won't spend their time and money on this. I'm sure that if we express ourselves properly about the life-long benefits of a class, they will trust us and they'll be more responsive to our message (which will be distributed to the msas, at prayers, jumuahs, promo events, aunties...etc), and attend the class InshaAllah.

Just something to keep in mind.

Salaam,

I knew if no one understood what I meant you would Nade :D
Yeah that's exactly what I mean. But I've seen people in Montreal handing out flyers that were like that, and it was pretty eye-catching. Imagine if we're the first to do this in the Muslim community...it would blow people's minds away! inshAllah :)

I think Ville St-Laurent, West Island..would qualify for that.

I don't see enough excitement from Asadians for this new class. Only 7 people replied to this thread? Hardly any participation in the Shura thread (http://forums.almaghrib.org/showthread.php?t=11916)?

Where is your team Al Moral...Don't make me have second thoughts about my decesion:)

It has nothing to do with Ottawa. They've always had more numbers than you guys...(I know, 85% of the class consists of sisters)

Now is the time to prove what you got! Are you guys going to achieve the target of 200 students?

Where is all the excitement and planning?

AliM

nsh Allah we will hit out target. We dont talk the talk, we walk the walk.

Even though our class sizes are not that big, Qabeela Asad is all about producing quality students, and thats why we are taking the liwa :) Not only that, but after we hit our 200 mark we are gonna have the biggest class size in Canadian History !

what do you mean 5 brothers from attend the TPA course? What an exaggeration!! There were at least 15; and a lot of sisters!! I also know for a fact that some brothers went to the Toronto course which was happening the same time. And the out of the 7 people you had, only like 3 were brothers...insha-Allah, we all have huge representation from Ottawa for FIQH UL-IBADAH IV...and just to see how active we are...look at the Ansari T.P.A. Gems page -- 12 pages and counting!! Let's see what you guys are made of - let the competition begin, in the path of Allah (s.w.t.)

for this idea to go through how about putting some brs and srs in charge of each mosque + musallah in Montreal now? inshaAllah this way we can start the process of getting permission from the mosques. we did this for usool al-fiqh, alhumdulillah worked out good

remember in usool al-fiqh, shaikh muhammad alshareef asked the new students how did you hear about the class? majority of the students who raised their hands said WORD of MOUTH! so that's our BEST tool inshaAllah. this is simple to do and when you need help (which we do) in talking with people or you're shy or "nervous" about inviting them to learn the truth, to learn about their deen, say the supplication of Musa alayhi asalaam:

[قَالَ رَبِّ اشْرَحْ لِى صَدْرِى - وَيَسِّرْ لِى أَمْرِى ]

(Musa) said: "O my Lord! Open for me my chest, and ease my task for me.'' Surah Ta-Ha 20:27

This means, "I cannot perform this task if You do not help me, aid me and support me.'' - Tafsir Ibn Kathir

3-Publisac

I like the above ideas alot. Of which chalk messages are inexpensive but we need to work out our finances for billboard and flash card flyer. Publisac could also be tackled with not too much difficulty.

InshAllah we are still waiting for the name of the course to be decided. Once the poster is designed we can go ahead with the ideas.

Another idea that I have is to design tote bags (took this idea from Qabeelat Haadi's folder) with the poster printed on one side and one liner about knowledge (hadeeth/quote)with big AlMaghrib logo on the other. Whoever registers for the course gets a free bag.

Although we are tragetting all age groups but this time we can focus more on high school/CEGEP kids & uncles and aunties. These two age groups are generally looked over and not really cared about. In TPA I noticed some very young students and the younger they are the more enthusiasm they generate. Not only that, they will be taking the leadership position inshAllah and will replace us so we need to make them our priority. The older people you will find, once introduced, will remain committed. Not only that, since they are mothers and fathers of the community, they can influence their children hence wider circle in the community. To target high school kids for example br.Naved Bakali will be a good source and for older people Sr.Haadiya is a solid asset... and she has proven herself already mashAllah

check out the links for tote bags. I took this from Haadi's folder

Assalaamu Alaikum,

Tote bags!

Here is an example of what one may look like:
http://customink.com/cink/r.jsp?E=v...mail.com&F=hok1

The cost for this particular bag and design would be $6.28 each if we bought 50 and $5.23 each if we bought 100. For a full color design (just like the actual image) it would be $10.83 each for 50 and $8.70 each for 100.

Here are a few more options which are probably cheaper (keep in mind that the price changes depending on quantity and color - and setup fees).

http://www.promohut.com/itemiq-22310.html
http://www.gimmees.com/detail~pNum~720~pcategory~5~psubcategory~.asp

Insha'Allah please let me know if we are more serious about the totes and I can try to find the best price (but you have to tell me design and quantity).

Ma salaama!
