as the Ameerah informed me we r gonna have 2 tables one for Almaghrib where were gonna be snatching ppl to register and a table for Emanrush inshalaah!!!

so im guessing while we walk around breaks we should grab those ppl wandering around the Bazaar areas tell em about LOG while walking up to the almaghrib table and as soon as they say " i would luv to come...." give em a pen/form and say:

I dunno about 2-3 times a week, but inshAllah I think we can work with once a week or so atleast for now.

Maybe once we're closer to class, starting Jan/Feb, we can make it more regular inshAllah?

Some flyering tips:

1. Profile people:
a) The glum guy... he is sad and needs a friend, so take interest and become his friend.

b) The cool guys... walk into the middle of the group and hand one to the leader and say: "take this class and I guarantee you will be able to rip apart any religion." nod as you are saying it, look him in the eye and keep your chin up. walk away with a limp in your step (*just kidding about the limp, the key here is selling the benefit of the class)

c) The active guys... they are most likely involved in the community or another group so ask about their organization first, and then say "cool, yah I've heard of you guys. I'm a part of this group and we hold university-level classes" and show them a flyer.. (*the catch here is to say its university level, it implies our group is larger scale than theirs. if they ask you can go on about the accrediation and bachelor's degree after getting 36 credits)


2. Enlist your friends:
a) Go up to them and say: hey bro, I need a favour from you (*give them a sense of empowerment).

b) next say: I need you to do some promoting for me (*you say this cause it sounds cool and is assertive ie. "I need you to..", not "can you". Said with any other words you run the risk of sounding lame and giving them power over you)

c) Say: "take a couple of these, and give them to people you know. Tell them to only give one to people who are serious about Islam." (*you are sublty giving your friend social validation and giving the class a sense of exclusivity.)


3. Reach into your Acquaintances:
a) see a familiar face after jumuah and be like "hey have you heard about this?" (*the key here is to stand beside them and lean in as your pull out only one card. do not let them see the stack in your pocket, and when you lean in, make shoulder to shoulder contact. it implies brotherhood and is far less threatening than standing face to face)

b) if they answer yes they have heard of it, ask "oh yah, did you sign up yet? (*it imples you have both decided to go). if they say no they havent heard of it yet, say "I just registered the other day, a good friend of mine gave it to me and he said its going to be awesome" (*creating a fictional third person is a very useful tactic to dispell any pressure or guilt from the situation. it also implies other people are talking about it. think of movie commercials where it says "the best comedy of 2006", you dont know who said it but it implies hype and excitement.)


Remember, selling the benefits and triggering emotional responses are the keys to goading people into action. The exact speech I have given may not work for everyone, but extract the general principles.

Plant seeds which will grow, if you talked to someone about it last week, wait a couple weeks before mentioning it to them again. Strengthen the connection (remember Conquest's laws of leadership?)

Lastly, watch your intention. Seek not to play with people's emotions as social power can really mess with personal ikhlas and create riyaa (I will admit I have had first hand experience with this). Rather speak from the heart, do it with sincerity, and if Allah wills it we will yield the results we have aimed for!

I'm actually doing that! I dont see how its called lying; the room we get will probably only have 250 seats or so. If we have ~170 registrants already (and I can tell the numbers ARE rising, just by talking to brothers at school), then the seats really ARE filling up.

within a week, inshaAllah there will only be 50 seats available. And thats still over a month before the class actually starts.

Then you have to count reading week, when all of us University students should be hitting the masajd in full (no excuses then), and spreading the postcards, the posters, and the hype.

The seats really are filling up, and space is always *limited* (when is it ever unlimited? lol). So I think its time we pitched it to everyone along these lines. :)
