Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah,

I have in my notes an incident that took place when the army of Talha, Zubair and Aisha (raa) were going to Basra. My note says that before reaching Basra, they reach a city called Hawaab and the dogs were barking at Aisha (raa). Then she asked the name of the city. There seemed to be some reference to a hadith of the prophet regarding this. Could Sheikh Gyasi or someone else provide me more details of this incident.

The incident mentioned was that Aisha(R) wanted to return after discovering that she was barked at by the dogs of How-ab. Those with her (one narration says Abdullah Ibn Az-zubair and the others say Talhah and Az-Zubair) told her that she has only come in peace and when the Muslims see her reconciliation and understanding will occur. The reason she wanted to return is because of the hadith of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) which implies that one of his wives will be wrong (for her journey) and the dogs of How-ab will bark at her. This hadith is collected by Ibn Abee Shaybah, Imam Ahmed, Abu Ya’la, Al-Bazar and others. It is mentioned by Ibn Katheer in his book Albidayah Wannihayah and also mentioned by Imam Adh-Dhahabi in his book Seer Aalaam An-Nubala. The hadith is authentic according to Al-Haakim, Ibn Hibban, Ibn Katheer, Adh-Dhabi and others.
