Bismillah,
Assalamualaykum warahmatullahi wabarakatuhu,
Ok guys, help me out here insha Allah..
I'm thinking of flying to LA for HOK in November. I have to convince the admin. of my college to put me in a group which will have free period at that time insha Allah. As for the money, insha Allah I can figure something out.
The thing is...should I use the money to buy loads of cds from EmanRush
(esp. FOL) and benefit from the lectures? (I use them for halaqa)
OR
should I use it exclusively for HOK..?
I'm in Cork, Ireland.
What do you think..?
Jazakumullah khayr.

Walaikum As-Salaam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,
Hmmm...that's an interesting situation to be stuck in.
It reminds of: A picture is worth a thousand words.
But in this situation we are talking about a live experience and not just a picture. So that's worth even more. If you attend the live class...there is a certain level of surity involved that you'll attend all days (if that's your sole reason for coming to LA). Plus there is the sawab involved for traveling for knowledge. How sure are you that you'll listen to all of the CD's that you might potentially purchase?
Hope it helps. Wallahu Alim.

Wa alaykum Salaam warahmatullahi wabakatuhu,
Sr.Anis,
Please pray Isthikhara to make a final decision.
I would also like to quote the hadith which Sr./Br.Sirius1 has mentioned.
Narrated AbudDarda':
Kathir ibn Qays said: I was sitting with AbudDarda' in the mosque of Damascus. A man came to him and said: AbudDarda, I have come to you from the town of the Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) for a tradition that I have heard you relate from the Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him). I have come for no other purpose.
He said: I heard the Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) say: If anyone travels on a road in search of knowledge, Allah will cause him to travel on one of the roads of Paradise. The angels will lower their wings in their great pleasure with one who seeks knowledge, the inhabitants of the heavens and the Earth and the fish in the deep waters will ask forgiveness for the learned man. The superiority of the learned man over the devout is like that of the moon, on the night when it is full, over the rest of the stars. The learned are the heirs of the Prophets, and the Prophets leave neither dinar nor dirham, leaving only knowledge, and he who takes it takes an abundant portion.
I would also like to extend a warm welcome on behalf of Banu Haqq.
InshaAllah if you decide to come, I would like to take complete responsibility of your stay including your LAX airport pickup and drop off.
Banu Haqq will be happy to see a sister travelling from abroad for their first class inshaAllah.
Salaams
Your sister in islam

Wa'alaikum asalaam wa rahmatullahi wa baarakatuh,
Of course you should come if you have the means. I absolutely encourage you...I think people are truly missing out if they haven't taken this class.
One thing though, do you a have a mahram to travel with? I assume you are a sister? Do some research about travelling with a mahram.

Assalamualaykum sister Aasiyah,
Jazakillah khayr for reminding me about the mahram issue. I just checked the Islam q&a website, and here's what I found ..
Question 4523 (http://www.islam-qa.com/index.php?ref=4523&ln=eng):
"I understand that a woman to travel by herself for the duration of a day and a night without a mahram is haram. However the speed of air travel which takes at most 8 hours. Is it halal for a woman be dropped off at the departing airport by a mahram and picked up at the destination airport by another mahram? The total journey would be at most 10 hours."
Answer:
Praise be to Allaah.
It is not permissible for a woman to travel without a mahram because of the general meaning of the hadeeth of the Prophet http://www.islam-qa.com/images/saws.gif (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him): “It is not permissible for any woman who believes in Allaah and the Last Day to travel except with a mahram.”
And because the purpose for the mahram being there is so that he can protect her and take care of her, especially if any emergency arises, and travel is subject to emergencies regardless of the length of time involved. Whatever people regard as “travelling” is like this, and is subject to the rulings on travelling.
For more on the rulings on mahrams, see Question # 5538
------------
So no HOK for me then..? Do let me know if any of you have something to share on this matter. Jazakumullah khayr.

Assalamualaykum,
So I've looked on the net about 'muslim woman travelling with mahram' issue.
As I've expected, there are 2 ways of how scholars look at this issue.
In my case,
Shaykh S.Al-Munajjid and Mufti Ibrahim Desai stated that it's impermissible.
and Shaykh Ahmad Kutty said it's ok.
I don't know much about how to choose what to follow.
Should I continue making istikharah and go on with my plan...?
Or maybe I should just stop.
Sister quest, insha Allah banu Haqq's first seminar is going to be FANTASTIC..! May Allah Allah Ta'ala put barakah in all your effort and make banu Haqq the AlMaghrib Institute powerhouse. http://forums.almaghrib.org/images/icons/icon14.gif http://forums.almaghrib.org/images/icons/icon7.gif

I am more than happy to provide it, actually, it's part of a weekly reminder Muhammad Alshareef sends out to a large email list. Ironically, that reminder came the same time I was planning on taking a trip without a mahram. Alhamdulilah for that huh? I know it's frustrating not being able to take AlMaghrib classes from where you live, but maybe you should look into some other online schools.
Best wishes,

Your story is, without a doubt..an inspiration http://forums.almaghrib.org/images/icons/icon14.gif! Insha Allah I'm making du'aa everyday to attend the seminar.
Subhanallah, you are right, even my original plan (of going to LA in Nov) is one impossible that Allah made possible. I wouldn't have even thought of attending a seminar. Allah took me a step further:
Continue making du'aa, strive to achieve it, & we will never be dissapointed with the outcome, insha Allah. http://forums.almaghrib.org/images/icons/icon10.gif

May Allaah reward you yaa ukhti, aameen
Just to mention about the issue of travelling without a mahram then that is an issue which is disputed. There are many ahadeeth that do speak about the necessity of a mahram with more details such as a day and night, three days and nights etc...All of this if researched in the books of fiqh can be found in much detail. If you have a madhab you take more often from, then I would start out by researching it in the books of your madhab, insha'Allaah.
However, just for the sake of sharing we should realize that these issues might fall into shubha and we should be careful. Not to mention that we live in a time where women are not safe. Especially Muslim women. I think you made the best decision.

Sister Anis, i understand exactly where you are coming from. I was more than just anxious to take HOK...that class was coming to Columbus a month after Hayl got cancelled... Since then, i just always had those day dreams where Sh. Muhammad Alshareef would teach HOK in Columbus. I couldnt believe it when i got an email saying the class is coming to Chicago, 6 hour drive. You just cant imagine my excitement at that point, i even sent a super excited email without checking who it was going to, can you imagine my embarrassement.
Then: someone adviced not to travel without a Mahram. And i know we always get adviced, but only Allah can guide you to actually obey the commandments.
The Book of Allah has nothing but TRUTH in it sis. Allah says that He Will provide for us from sourced we never imagine, we must have the believe that it will happen. After i had given up on going and decided i wouldnt go i thought about calling one of my brothers and just asking him about the possibility of him going with me. I knew i'll get a No but i figured i had nothing to lose. My brother agreed to go with me, and i did not even have to try so hard, he just said: "let me see what i can do about work." He ended up going and for two weekends he decided to just leave his work and family (which was really difficult). I'm still thinking about how i can repay him. No matter what i do, i know Allah will reward him even more. On top of that, i asked my brother if he would be willing to take me to Michigan or Windsor when classes come, he just said "Tab'an" "Of course" So i guess they were just waiting for me to ask them, walhamdulilah.
My point is, now that you have decided not to go for the sake of Allah, you can just expect that something more amazing is gonna come your way. Insha Allah.

There are two classes you should take whether you are ready or not. One is The Light of Guidance and the other is History of the Khulafaa. Why? Because these two classes establishes the foundation of your deen. Take the classes then purchase the material to help study.
