Assalam alaikum,
I tried to search the forums as well as other sites, but I could not find anything on this...are your unused gift cards zakatable? Ex, you have $1000 worth of gift cards to stores like Macy's, IKEA, etc...Whatever you would buy with them is not zakatable (clothes, home furnishings, etc.), but until you use them, are they considered to be like cash?
The assumption is that they have been in your possession for a hijri year and have not been used, and that combined with your other wealth, you do meet the requirements of nisaab.
Jazakallah Khairan for your help in advance.
