Asalamoalaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,

In eastern countries, there is a tradition of dowry given by a daughter's father to the son when the marriage takes place. That dowry is called 'jahez' in urdu. It is considered to be an obligation from a father that must be fulfilled. If the parents are unable to give all the furniture and other kitchen and everyday use accessories, the daughter is taunted for not bringing it with her.
I came to know of a justification that I have never heard of concerning this dowry. Someone said that Prophet SAW gave dowry to Fatima R.A upon her marriage with Ali R.A. I would like to know whether this is authentic or not. What these people say is that Prophet SAW gave a few household items to Fatima R.A. therefore, jahez or this type of dowry is not haraam. If someone can refer me to an authentic description of Fatima's R.A. marriage to Ali R.A., I will be very thank ful to you.
Also, how can we give someone daleel that this type of dowry has nothing to do with our deen?
JazakumAllahu khayr
