Asalamu Alaikum WaRahmatullahi AazaWajal WaBarakatu
Alhamdulilah Im sure I speak for everyone when i say we all benefited from "LIGHT http://forums.almaghrib.org/images/icons/icon3.gifF GUIDANCE". The exam has been scheduled for Sunday, January 7th 2006. (Thats 6 weeks away) sooo we have to make sure the material "sticks" in order for us to all pass Bi'iznillah. Keeping in mind New Yorkers' busy schedule, AlMaghrib-NY will be holding weekly Online study sessions (for anyone and everyone to attend) -
These sessios will start tomorrow InshaAllah , Friday November 24th @6:30am-8:30am (Remember, there is Baraqah during these 'after-fajr' hours) and then continue to be on every Saturday, Starting December 2nd 2006 (same timings, 630-830am) till the exam date, This gives us 14 whole hours of review Alhamdulilah.
These admisitered sessions will be through PalTalk: The Room is under "Light of Guidance Review session", if it doesnt come up on the list, Search for it InshaAllah
Dont have paltalk? Download it for free at http://www.paltalk.com/ (http://www.paltalk.com/)
Any Question? Direct them to NYalmaghrib@gmail.com

I never used paltalk before. is the voice completely clear? and how are you planning to conduct it? i mean just one person reads the notes or everyone gives their input(which i cant even imagine-lol)
Paltalk is quite simple Alhamdulilah, basically it's a voice-capable chatroom. Bi'iznillah the review session would be administered by one person (person may vary by session), as the person reviews the notes, if anyone requires further elaboration on any specific point, they would type it in & it would be explained to them... I suggest everyone DL's the program tonight, make theirselves a username, and maybe visit other "Islam-based rooms" (in order to become more familiar with it InshaAllah)

Assalaamualaikum,
I thought this would be extremely helpful for us as we start studying for LoG.

MaashaAllah may Allah ta'la reward you sister for what you have done in this forum alone, the Qur'aan memorization program.
a2. continuously revizing what we have memorized.
b) taking 'Aqeedah classes even if you've had the same class. what i mean is even if you've HAD an introductory 'Aqeedah class, and you have a different teacher TAKE that class and TAKE vehement notes. SubhanAllah you learn SO much even if you might know ALL of the material, from the akhlaaq of the sheikh, from the way he PRESENTS the material, from the construction of the class, how he deals with his students, etc. One of my great wishes is that we learn from ALL of our shiookh and each one teach ALL of the classes images/smilies/biggrin.gif- it'd be so amazing to learn something from each of them each have their own style and its subhanAllah such a blessiing to see HOW Allah ta'la blesses the people of knowledge.
SubhanAllah as we mentioned elsewhere..
I was listening to "Under the Shade of the Scrolls" by shaykh Muhammad, and in the cd about Imaam Maalik (rahimAllah), where his mother dressed him up and walked him to masjid an-nabawi and PICKED Rabeeatur Ra'ii (rahimAllah) to be his teacher.. Shaykh Muhammad discussed three types of scholars that we learn from:
1. The one we learn from his immense knowledge AND manners.
2. The one we may learn not too much from his knowledge but immensely from his MANNERS.
and 3. The one who we neither learn from his knowledge nor his manners. - Shaykh Muhammad then invoked Allah ta'la to protect us from that and then said - 'But these types of teachers are in actuality the BEST you can learn from .... of what NOT to do. So you stay and in your ettiquette as a student of knowledge sit and learn from him.. of the LIVING example of what NOT to do. The patience of the student of knowledge with regards to a bad teacher'
c) Teaching it and spreading it among those that don't know. Gaining knowledge- some don't know the great AMAANAH that they are automatically made responsible for. Allah ta'la said,
Al-Baqarah 159. Verily, those who conceal the clear proofs, evidences and the guidance, which We have sent down, after We have made it clear for the people in the Book, they are the ones cursed by Allah and cursed by the cursers.
160. Except those who repent and do righteous deeds, and openly declare (the truth which they concealed). These, I will accept their repentance. And I am the One Who accepts repentance, the Most Merciful.
Aal Imran 37. Those who are miserly and enjoin miserliness on other men and hide what Allah has bestowed upon them of His Bounties. And We have prepared for the disbelievers a disgraceful torment.
RasoolAllah (salAllahu a'laihee wa sallam) said: "Whoever hides knowledge, Allah will brand him with the branding iron from the hellfire." [Musnad Ahmad]
And the statement of Imaam Ash Shafiee "I have made Maalik between me and Allah on the Day of Judgement."
And the GREAT AMAANAH in PRACTICING what we learn, I can't but help but remember the statements of Ibn ul Jawzi part of which in my signature: "... guiding people by one's action is more inspiring than doing so by words. One should implement what he knows for it is indeed the greatest foundation. And the miskîn, the true miskîn is the one who wasted his life learning what he does not practice, thus he loses the pleasures of the dunyah and the goodies of the âkhirah, (in addition to) coming forth bankrupt (on the day of judgment) with strong evidences against himself."
(Ibn ul Jawzî - Sayd Al-Khâtir 138).
And what a sister reminded us with, Masrooq would come to `A'ishah (may Allaah be pleased with all the companions) and would ask her questions. `A'ishah asked one day "Have you implemented all that I have taught you?" Masrooq said "No."
`A'ishah said, "Do not increase the evidences of Allaah against you."
And regarding spreading knowledge:
Sahl ibn Sa'd narrated the the Prophet (salAllahu a'laihee wa sallam) said: I swear by Allah, it will be better for you that Allah should give guidance to one man through your da'wah than that you should acquire the red ones among the camels.
d) reading MANY books regarding A'qeedah and listening to MANY lectures.
Some of the people (and we ask Allah to protect us from this) complain that we "always" have to hear lectures or khutub about 'Aqeedah over and over again...
Knowledge is expansive, and thinking at ANY time that its restricted after gaining a little of it... one should seek help and forgiveness from Allah as RasoolAllah (salAllahu a'laihee wa salam) said to the A'raabee "You have constricted something that is too vast."
e) Memorizing a small treatise to gain foundation. Shaykh Bakr Abu Zayd (hafidhahullah) mentions about the Ettiquettes of the Student of Knowledge, that he memorize a SMALL CONCISE treatise first to gain a good strong foundation, before moving on to the greater and more expansive books. One EXCELLENT such simple book is 50 questions and Answers about Aqeedah by sheikh Muhammad ibn Abdul Wahhab. When we establish our foundations, it increases us in the understanding of concepts, BASED on these foundations.
The most important being:
f) Leaving of sins, and increase of Istighfar, following a bad sin with a good one, and tawbah lillahi a'zza wa jal. Imaam ash shafi'ee in a beautiful lines asked his teacher Wakee':
شكوت إلى وكيع سوء حفظي *** فأرشدني إلى ترك المعاصي
وأخبرني بأن العلم نور *** ونور الله لا يُهدى لعاصي
(translation by sister Sara Saker)
"I complained to Wakee' about my trouble in memorizing *** So he suggested the leaving of sins
And told me that verily, knowledge is light *** And the light of Allah is not granted to a sinner.
g) Making du'a for your teachers and peers. WHY? Based on the hadith: No muslims servant of Allah praysfor his brothers behind his back except that an angel says, and for the same”. (Sahih Muslim). So we ask Allah ta'la to preserve our shyookh, increase them in knowledge, forgive them for their sins whether major or minor, make their matters of ease for them, make their hearts filled with light in imaan, and increase their imaan, and protect them from fitnah, raise their children THAABIT in the deen, and grant them of the bounties of this world and the herefafter, making them among the scholars followed by Muadh ibn Jabal in Jannatal Firdous al A'la.. and May He ta'la make us with them images/smilies/smile.gif. As the Prophet salAllahu a'laihee wa sallam told his daughter the glad tiding.. that we will be with those that whom we love. And we bear witness to Allah ta'la, that we love RasoolAllah (salAllahu a'laihee wa salam), we love the Salaf, and we love those that followed them, and we love OUR shiookh (hafidhahumAllah ta'la). And I tell ALL of the students of knowledge, that we make this dua in our sujood and we make it often, this is the LEAST of thanks we can give to them and praising Allah ta'la often for what he has blessed us with, GUIDED us with from ALL of the A'laameen. WAllahuma taqabal du'aana wa da'waatina ya rabbil a'laameen.
h) Reading of Qur'aan daily:
Shiekh Isaam Rajib adjoured us "We can't call ourselves students of knowledge without being attached to the book of Allah ta'la. You see people arguing 'In such and such a book it says, and in such and such a book it says.' But you ask him 'How much of the book of Allah do you read every day?' and you find him silent.
And the MINIMUM, is one Juz' a day, completing the Qur'an at least ONCE a month..
This increases our keenness, our imaan, and Allah ta'la grants us via the hadith "If Allah wishes good for someone, he grants him the understanding of the deen." We can say, that if he grows nearer to the Qur'an - grows nearer to Allah ta'la, and grows more in pleasing Allah ta'la, and Allah ta'la will, bi idhnillah increase him in understanding of the deen because of Him a'zza wa jal being pleased with the person...
May Allah ta'la grant us tawfeeq....
And I hope this was of benefit.
WAllahu A'lam

One day Allah’s Messenger, sallaAllahu alayhi wasallam, noticed a Bedouin leaving his camel without tying it. He asked the Bedouin, “Why don’t you tie down your camel?” The Bedouin answered, “I placed my trust in Allah.” At that, the Prophet, sallaAllahu alayhi wasallam, said, “Tie your camel and place your trust in Allah” [Tirmidhi]
This means placing trust in Allah is by doing everything that is necessary for success! With that said, ¿Has Everyone been studying? ... With the test 7 days away we all need the extra help
Here are some practice quizzes to show you which topics you have on lock & which you should study a little harder: http://www.almaghribopq.org/Quizzes.aspx (http://www.almaghribopq.org/Quizzes.aspx)
