Walaikum as salaam wrwb,

In regards to pamphlets...

1. Basic intro to Islam (so people know that Islam is not all about "terrorism" and "oppressed women")
2. Jihad and Islam's stance on terrorism (to clear misconceptions)
3. Women's rights in Islam and Hijab (to clear misconceptions)
4. Life after Death (sparks an interest--esp in old people)
5. Status of Jesus (alayhes salaam) and Maryam (ra) in Islam
6. Miscellaneous--Ramadan, Hajj, Zakah, etc.

Walaikumsalam wa rahmatullah wa barakatuhu,

Here in downtown toronto, at our dawah table, we give out yusuf ali quran translations which are available from www.goodwordbooks.com (http://www.goodwordbooks.com)

We also give out Why Islam flyers which are very concise. Here's the link to whyislam.

http://www.whyislam.org/877/

They also have a toll free number which is very helpful in north america for non muslims who may have questions later on.

If you need more info, you can contact me at gufran at gmail inshaAllah

Wasalamalaykum wa rahmatullah wa barakatuhu.

6. Miscellaneous--Ramadan, Hajj, Zakah, etc.I think these flyers are like staple brochures to hand out for da'wah...my personal opinon is that they are not very effective....something else that i have noticed while giving da'wah is that not many people have misconceptions about Islam, the majority of people that we meet are intellectual enough to know that what the media portrays is completely incorrect...this is an excellent thing..alhamdolilah..the problem comes in when we as muslims start reinforcing the idea...by being on the defence..and giving importance and taking time out to target such topics as Islam and terrorism, or women in islam, etc.

The core da'wah pamphlets I think should be based on tawheed and the hereafter. Unfortunately, yet to find any yet...inshallah that can be the next da'wah project..wallahu ta'ala alim.

just a quick question: in a recent dawah event.... i got varying feedback. Some people said its good to see lots of different types of dawah materials (books, tapes, fliers, etc) while others said ... we should stick to just one consistent item (quran + intorductory book).

What do you guys think? I feel there are pros and cons to both. I still prefer having more books then just that, cuz diff people want diff information + are open to consider islam based on diff. approach. Wa'Allahu ta'ala alem.

The reason I ask is, because we might want to chnage our style for future events. So some feedback from experienced people would be much beneficial insha'Allah.

The more resources the better...as you mentioned, people are coming from different walks of life and being able to provide information which meets their needs is always good. The only thing that happens when you have alot of information just sitting around there, people just get confused, rather than making Islam seem simple it just gets broken down into something too complicated.

My personal ideeal would be to have a few resources on the table..and have other resources put away..maybe under the table or something..as u talk to different people...give them what you believe would be the best for them. This method would make someone feel actually important as you arn't just giving the same old stuff to him.

Considering the three quotes above I would say there are some good points. When giving dawah you'll come to realize, for the most part, that even though topics such as terrorism, hijab etc are popular, the common person doesn't understand tawheed. I would put out pamphlets that really get people to believe in one diety, to worship that diety and/or to realize that one day they would be asked "those three" questions in the grave. I agree with brother Yaseen, quoted above, we should have as many pamphlets as possible but not all displayed. They should all contain correct information while easy to read also.

P.S. most of the dawah tables I've seen had enough literature but the main issue were the people behind those tables. As we all realise one does not have to be a scholar to give dawah but we sure have to at least read the material we're giving out before giving them out.
