Oh sleepy sleepy Tayybah!!
Wake up!!!
The good news is we have 60 people registered for this class, even while we sleep. The bad news is we're sleeping and we have 60 people registered!
Time to get the marketing going for Evolution of Fiqh, and we're definitely hitting 441 (http://forums.almaghrib.org/showthread.php?t=19631) for this seminar!!!
So as usual we're goinng to kick it off with ideas..
Keep in mind what the class is (an academic journey into the history of the development of Islamic Jurispudence) and now ask yourself, who should we spend our time marketing this class to? What groups would be interested?
And share!!

Muslim law students would SO be into this class. I'm going to ask KL to bother the NYU law students, but where else can we find these guys??
p.s. The brothers are so going to SHINE in this seminar. In sha Allah count on it.

Fordham Law school.....um, court ?
THE UNCLES,....everyone has one, IMAMS, ANYONE TEACHING AT ISLAMIC SCHOOL ( i smell a raid of Al-Noor, this time, Faculty), NEW MUSLIMS <<< THE RATE THEY Strive to learn more, ASTONISHES ME, may we all have that drive.
From what I know I am most interested in this course for the following:
1. I want to know about the Great Imams of Fiqh, their lives, what did they do and the struggles they went through for knowledge, in hopes I may be inspired.
2. Sh. Yaser, was talking about the Shia' Imams and if I remember correct, how their history effects our fiqh, someone correct me if I am wrong. BUT THIS IS WHAT GOT MY EAR REALLY REALLY QUICK.
3. Learning the proper etiquette when disagreements occur.

Durbah- This is a seminar that they haven't had in forever. Maybe market it to the Qabilah across the river?

good idea Komal,
But the issue with events and msa meetings is that alot of times we don't know when they're going on unless we're specifically invited or informed of then.
How would we find out about these programs?

How would we find out about these programs?
1. Your buddies who are still in college
2. Facebook: I personally find out about so many events thru facebook. Get a couple of volunteers to confirm their presence at those events...and ADVERTIZE.

I think targeting uncles is a pretty cool idea. Because I know that uncles tend to be interested in these issues of madhabs and anything historical of the sort. Personally, I always have convos with my dad about stuff like this all the time and I hear him talking about it with his friends. but for this to work, I think youd definitely need to make it seem as if alMaghrib isnt catered to college students alone (although it kind of is). I think if you approached this in a smart way, you could get them to come...perhaps at jumahs and other things where you know there are adults...for ex. my masjid has adult classes on sundays...things of that sort.
About the MSA's and finding out info about them and how to advertise to them, you can use the people who've come to previous classes and use them. I'm sure the 300+ people who came to Love Notes and LOG go to a bunch of different colleges. Maybe if you found a person here and there.. people who youd think would be active...and kept in contact with them on behalf of their respective MSA's then youd be aware of events going on at their MSA or be able to give one particular person promo stuff and whatnot. I guess it would be like having a rep at every MSA or the MSA's in NY anyways.
I also think you could do this with masaajid as well. If you know this particular person would be active enough, tell them to promo at their respective masjid. if you get people for each masjid (which I think would be possible) then you could contact them and tell them to advertise for the class inshAllah.

about the contact people, to make it easier maybe you can contact them through a specific email group you make for them...to make contacting all of them easier.

Why doesn't someone start a thread of places they know where there will be events whether you attend the school or not ... then we can work on getting people out there to see if the administration would allow us to do a 5 min presentation or just have a table set up or what not
Ok so I started one http://forums.almaghrib.org/showthread.php?t=19663
