Bismillah

I think that is great to see so much participation on the forums, but personally, I think that IM-ing people during class, sending emails, etc is not proper adab while sacred 'ilm is being dispensed. :) If text messaging and cell phones are out, so should these other modern formsof communication.

While one person may be able to do all this multi-tasking and not skip a beat, someone else may not be able to, but still be responding to the IM-ing, forums, emails, etc.

I personally recommend that we keep the personal discussions for times outside of the lectures. Otherwise, we might as well all be bringing out computers, or text messaging each other for one random idea or another...and at that rate, how much is reaching out hearts and minds with so many distractions! :)

Our time with our teacher is short....but the internet never closes!

Bismillah.

As-Salaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh,

I agree. This also distracts others around and behind computer users. Not only do we hear excessive typing almost the entire time, but to add to that we get more distracted when people are looking at pictures, or googling. SubhanAllah, we should show more respect than that.

I don't think any of us has a photographic memory that we wouldn't need to give our full attention to the instructor and the ilm that is being shared.

JazakumAllah Khair Wa BarakAllahu Feekum.

Was-Salaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh

jazaakiAllah khayran sister megan for this excellent reminder.
(maybe you should post this in the seminar folder so more people can see it, this happens in every seminar I've taken...)

Bismillah.

As-Salaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh,

I'm only refering to personal googling (anything not related to the seminar), not when he is asking to look up something.

JazakumAllah Khair Wa BarakAllahu Feekum.

Really? Hmmm...what I want to know, is are the instructors aware of it, and what do they think!! :)One class I took (outside of my locale), some students were watching the play offs on their laptops...(soccer)
And ofcourse, the sisters are seated behind the brothers, so it's not hard to miss a soccer game coming from a laptop!!! (the shaykh noticed it at the end, and made a joke..prolly didn't wanna call the brother out.) :)

I wonder too.
