Walaikum Alsalaam ...
It's very simple, we know in general what the class is going to be about and a lot of the classes have material listed for preperation, so all that we do is have someone prepare to go over the material.
It in sha Allah is a good way to prepare everyone to be a little ahead of the curve when the class actually rolls around as well as an incentive for someone who to take the class if they weren't planning on it before.
So for the Evolution of Fiqh class we just had, we studied portions of the book by Bilal Phillips. And for this upcoming class that deals with the pillars of Iman, we will be delving a little into Al-Aqidah At-Tahawiyyah, a dash of Umar Al-Ashqar's Aqeedah series, some commentary on the hadith of Jibreel by Zarabozo and Sheikh Atiyyah Muhammad Salim...:) very exciting..

as salamu`alaykum,
mashaAllah that's a really awesome idea. How many students turn up? is it front back setting and what's usually the location? currently we're covering Light of Guidance material in our weekly halaqah. I'm not sure now whether we should break that and start a series on our next class. Maybe we can have one super long session 1 month before the class that covers the contents of this course.
Ya Tayyabah, good work mashaAllah

wassalamwa'Alaykum As Salam,
Alhamdulilah we have about 20 people who attend these preview/review sessions. It's in a university classroom and since it's pretty big, brothers and sisters are seated on either side of the room.
Are you reviewing LOG Material? It's always a good idea to review previous seminars so as to keep it refreshed but I think a better idea is to let students give halqaat in their respective locations after they have taken a seminar. That way they are not only reviewing the material but also disemminating the knowledge they gained inshaAllah.
And for those who are interested in taking an upcoming seminar, you can hold preview sessions.
InshaAllah whatever works best for your qabeelah. wAllahu 'Alam.

It depends on what you want to do. You could probably do a preview for the class in one session just by doing a commentary on the hadith of Jibreel. Our intention is for the material to actually be studied before the seminar, so that we have a decent background in the material before we head into the class.
So for example we're scheduled for
June 9th- The reality of Iman
June 16th- The world of Angels
June 23rd- No class- Tayybah Orphan Walk
June 30th- Books and Messengers
July 7th- No session- ICNA convention
July 14th- Day of Judgment
July 21st- Predestination
July 28th- Seminar!!
