This is definitely a good chance for Wasat to give the newest teacher a big welcome, so take advantage of it.

MashaAllah, I saw alot of the brothers at the speech yesterday.

Imam Suhaib is definitely a very talented speaker, mashaAllah. He obviously is a true student of knowledge; his command over the arabic language and his ability to quote ahadith instantly is a blessing from Allah. As a friend of mine pointed out, he is one of those few people who can say a lot, without using that many words, mashaAllah.

I guess there was a little bit of controversy surrounding a few things that were said/done at the event!? Anyone care to comment on this?

Can anyone give a recap of the lectures/events? I was especially hoping to go to the one on Saturday.

Were you at the speech?

If not, then I would actually prefer not to talk about the speech. This is because I fear not being able to conceal my own opinion (whether good or bad, it doesn't really matter) about the things that raised some controversy in the speech. Also out of respect for Imam Suhayb.

Also, it wasn't really that big of a deal inshaAllah.

However, two things that had alot of people talking, which were not part of the speech were these:

1. Someone from among the event organizers, (MAS I think, correct me if I'm wrong) tried to play loud music- not nasheed, but something with loud drum sounds, inside the masjid. This was immediately stopped by Shaykh AbdulRahman (the imam of the Masjid, may Allah preserve him).

2. Sisters were repeatedly encouraged to leave the upper mezanine and sit on the same level as the brothers. *Not like too close or anything like that. There was still plenty of space between us. They said something about the sisters being able to see the speaker better, thus gaining more from the speech. So some people were a bit perplexed by this as well.
