I was wondering: what IS the fine line between such psychological disorders and actual jinn possession? Is there ever a way to know? Response of the patient to Qur'an recitation will determine this.

For more info read the book Jinn & Human Sickness by Dr. Abu'l-Mundhir Khaleel ibn Ibrahim Ameen. Darussalam 2005.

Response of the patient to Qur'an recitation will determine this. .so if they themselves are reciting the quran- than you can rule out jinns right?

Psychological disorders such as schizophrenia and dissociate identity disorder can be caused by Jinn

Something like schizophrenia can hardly be classified as "a" disease.
They never figured out a cause, there is a wide array of types ranging from the motionless to those that need to be restrained and tranquilized, and they dont know why it happens. All they know is that certain hormones are imbalanced in the brain and correcting this balance with drugs temporarily alleivates the problem (and even that is sometimes). They identified a possible genetic component from the fact that someone who has a relative with schizophrenia is more likely to have it himself than someone who does not. I think that the only thing we know for sure is how much we dont know, especially when it comes to the intangible and hidden dimensions of the mind and soul. And we appreciate the limit of our knowledge between the arrogance of some medical researchers who think they achieved all by discovering a hormonal imbalance and the ignorance of those that label everything they dont understand with the stamp of Jinn possession.
