As salaamu alaikum everyone:
Unfortunately, I was not able to be at the Qabeela meeting on Saturday, because I was ill and scheduled a doctor's appointment during lunch time. I was unable to suggest my idea for a dawah project. Therefore I will post it here.
Insha'allah, I got this idea from a fellow teacher at Al-Huda. We could offer a service to public and private schools to provide speakers who would give basic information about Islam to students. For instance during Ramadhan they could have an actual Muslim come and informm them about Ramadhan. During Multi-cultural days a brother and/or sister could be available for questions and giving a short talk. This would be for classes following current events, they could have a Muslim's perspective. Also, almost all Middle School and High School classes study the lands of Islam and the Muslims we could offer talks specific to their study.
We could create a website and a pamphlet and make ourselves known to educators. On the website we could offer links to authentic information about Islam.
This personally interests me because the first time I found out about Islam it was in a high school women's studies class. The teacher showed us a film about oppressed women all over the world. Of course Muslim women were highlighted. Thankfully, this misinformation did not keep me from the deen, Alhamdulillah!! However, wouldn't it be great to disspell some of the information kids in America learn!
We could charge a small fee and use the money to further other dawah projects. We could do small training classes in the Qabeelah, etc.
Any teacher worth their cloth loves to provide real life learning experinces for their students. They know it is better to learn from someone who actually has knowledge of a situation than someone who has just read about it. I think there would be a big desire for this type of thing.
So what do you think.
