Salaam alaykum,
Some questions about classes:
1. Comparative Fiqh - How far will it go? Up to what topic? Will it get into transactions, is it going to stop at salaah, whither and where ;)
2. Uloom al Qur'aan - any books recommended for preparation for the specific topic? Muhammad Mohar Ali's books through JIMAS? MM Azami's recent book?
3. Usool al Fiqh - any plan to reveal the topic? Is it Qawaa'id?

Assalaamu Alaykum Siraaj,
I hope this finds you well and in high eaman. I am on the same page as you it seems. I would like to prepare for the Summit. Inshaa'Allaah if you come across any books that you personally would recommend please do so. Of course I will be reviewing, inshaa'Allaah, Shaykh Yasir Qadhi's books (specifically Critical Study of Shirk and Sciences of the Qur'aan). Any good book(s) for Usul alFiqh? I remember the one Yaser Birjas recommended was Principles of Islamic Jurisprudence by Mohammad Hashim Kamali. Jazak Allaah Khair.

Jazak Allaah Khair for taking the time to ask and post this!

For Usool al Fiqh, while Kamali's book seems to be the standard in English, I'd recommend Imran Nyazee Khan's book "Islamic Jurisprudence". I have Kamali's book, but he didn't seem to have an editor to help him organize his thoughts on paper and a difficult topic is made more so by the lack of topic organization.
Having said that, we might not cover any of this ;) We may be covering some other topic not covered in those books.

Since the teachers at IlmSummit will primarily be AlMaghrib Instructors, I would assume that their own material would be of utmost importance.
I know for my aqeedah classes, I would expect that the students have mastered both LOG and LUL - (and ROF would help too!).
But these classes are semi-independant, meaning that even if you haven't taken a specific class, insha Allah you'll still benefit, just not AS much!

What about the Uloom al Qur'aan portion? You'll be covering the history of the text, and what we believe and what orientalists believe and conclude from their own findings, right?

PS - Was reading your Uloom al Qur'aan book this week, loved the footnotes in the digression on the proper understanding of the kalaam of Allah subhaana wa ta'aala :D
