This question is for Shyakh Yaser Birjas or anyone else who can answer.... The quotes are taken from tafsir ibn kathir...the online web version.

in reading the tafseer for the ayah in surah Baqarah it was said that the verses in surah baqarah that speak about the hypocrites was revealed " so that the believers would not be deceived by their outer appearance, thus saving the believers from a great evil."

so the question is how did these verse help in identifying those who were the hypocrites?

later it goes on to state that

"And among the bedouins around you, some are hypocrites, and so are some among the people of Al-Madinah who persist in hypocrisy; you (O Muhammad ) know them not, We know them) (9:101),

these Ayat prove that the Prophet was not informed about each and everyone among the hypocrites of his time. Rather, the Prophet was only informed about their characteristics, and he used to assume that some people possessed these characteristics

so how exactly did it help the situation becuase the prophet (saw) was not informed of EVERYONE who was a hyprocrite how did it help create a better enviroment and could it possible have created suspicion.

QUESTION #2:
"(أَلَآ إِنَّهُمۡ هُمُ ٱلۡمُفۡسِدُونَ وَلَـٰكِن لَّا يَشۡعُرُونَ)
This Ayah means that the hypocrites' behavior, and their claim that it is for peace, is itself mischief, although in their ignorance, they do not see it to be mischief."

so the question...how could they not know about their mischeif?

Still waiting for an answer for this question and i also have another question: The ayah in surah baqarah

In reading Tafseer of this verse by ibn kathir it states that the jews in Madinah were the first to be adressed in the quran...so are these verses referrring to the jews in Madinah however it says remember my favor upon you and in the tafseer it said Allah sent "manna and quails" on them and saved them from the Pharoah but this was bani isreal of Musa's time...so is this and similar verses about the children of Isreal all addressed to the jews of madinah?

Bismillah,
Assalamu alaikum,

It's all in the same tafsir of Ibn Kathir,
The prophet alayhil salam, didn't know who the hypocrites were by exact. But Allah subhanhu wa ta3alla confirmed to him that there were in fact hypocrites, and because this is something people have doubts about as to who they are, Allah gave their description away clearly, one benefit is that those who believe should avoid having these characteristics. Everything Allah does, He does with wisdom subhanhu wa ta3ala, and out of His wisdom He said:

(Had We willed, We could have shown them to you, and you should have known them by their marks; but surely, you will know them by the tone of their speech!)[47:30]

Out of Allah's wisdom, He told the messenger of Allah of their description and what they say, and He subhanahu wa ta3ala disclosed their hidden plots to him, but again out of His wisdom He didn't disclose who exactly they were by name. This has much wisdom in it, even though he (the messenger) might not know who they exactly are, he still knows their mind set and which characteristics are to be weary of, if someone has them. And it is much better for him to know about them something (a great deal of information) then not to know anything and be left clueless. Also this was revealed in the Qur'an and it is announced for everyone to hear, It shows the hypocrites that Allah is not unaware of what they do so it can assist the messenger of Allah emotionally, to be more cautious, and to put fear into the hypocrites' hearts that they are not left unwatched nor unheard. It can also serve as a way for them to repent, the fact that Alllah is disclosing so much of their description for them and the world to hear. It also teaches the believers not to fall for anything and be naive, but to be alert and awake when dealing with people.

Also just an example, let's say that a general was conducting a plan of attack and explaining it to the soldiers, and someone informed him "hey listen there is a spy amongst us, spies usually have characteristics such as blank blank blank". The general doesn't know who the spy is exactly, but if he sees someone who fits these "spy" characteristics he will be cautious when speaking and the he will not be as free when discusing plans. This is much better then the general being clueless as to the fact that there is a spy, and even if he knew there was but not knowning any characteristics. He would be open with the plans to everyone and that will bring harm to the soldiers. Or he would doubt everyone and not be able to disclose the plan properly. So by him knowing the attribute of the spy, he can narrow down his suspiscioun to only a select people who fall under that, and he would be cautious in his speech. And then imagine if it is announced to the entire camp of soldiers: "There is a spy amongst us and he has these characteristics", how do you think the spy will feel? and would that not make the soldiers more alert and have less of a chance to be deceived?

QUESTION #2:
"(أَلَآ إِنَّهُمۡ هُمُ ٱلۡمُفۡسِدُونَ وَلَـٰكِن لَّا يَشۡعُرُونَ)
This Ayah means that the hypocrites' behavior, and their claim that it is for peace, is itself mischief, although in their ignorance, they do not see it to be mischief."

so the question...how could they not know about their mischeif? Someone one might have good intentions but at the same time do something which will causes harm. They thought they were doing good by fighting the messenger, but in reality that was mischief, people today think they are making justice and peace on earth by asking for total equality in everything and anything for homosexuals, genders, different religions, etc... but they are actually causing mischief while they think that what they are doing is justice. This is because the true justice is only what Allah came with and the rulings in those regard. Similarly, the hypocrites plotting and planning against the messenger and the Muslims, think they are doing a good thing and they think that the call of the messenger is a mischief, whether it be because its abondoning their fathers' religions, it's making them lose money, its changing their ways etc. But in reality what they think is mischief is actually the good and what they think is good is actually mischief. This is because they hardened their hearts and refused to listen, so they are now confused to think in that way.

praisebe2allah]also have another question: The ayah in surah baqarah

The jews of madinah are bani Israel and from their descendents, the only reason they are in medina and not in egypt as slaves to this day, is because Allah subhanahu wa ta3ala favored them and freed them and their anscestors from Fir3awn in the past. Allah subhanahu wa ta3ala is reminding them of the covenant He made with them as a nation and He subhanahu wa ta3ala is reminding them of the favors He gave them as a nation all throughout history. So even after all of these favors which include freeing from fir3awn, once having access to the holy land with Allah's permision and aproval, having the prophets, being chosen amongst the world, being fed in the desert with al manna wal salwa, etc... and at the same time all of these times they transgressed as a nation against Allah's commands after each favor, and Allah is reminding them that they are still transgressing and not keeping their promise and covenant as a nation to follow what Allah has given them and follow the messenger of Allah. By Allah blessing their nation as a whole throughout history is an honor and a blessing from Allah to all of those who come from that nation. Such as today a lot of yemenies :) they brag sOoooo much because of the prophet's mentioning of the people of yemen being people of Eman, it was an honor which was given to yemen and its people at the time and so it is carried to this day. And such as mankind in general, were chosen over the other creations because Allah created Adam alayhil salam in the most beautiful form and this blessing is what caused the enmity of ibless and because of this favor on Adam all of manking is honored. And such as the Muslims, we have a covenant with Allah and it is a blessed nation that Allah said "Kuntum khair ummatin 2ukhrijat lilnas" "you are/were the best of the nations which were brought forth for the people". And we were blessed with victory in the past and many favors by Allah subhanahu wa ta3ala, and we were blessed with our golden age in the past, yet today we are forgeting these favors upon us and are transgressing against Allah's commands as a nation. So Allah favored the jews and He reminded them of their past so they can come back and realize their duty to thank Allah even more, and to remind us Muslims not to fall for the same trap as often happens.
