I've heard that Ibn Hazm had a different view on Allah's names and attributes, and I was just interested in what exactly WAS his view?

I know he was big on "literalism" of the Dhahiris etc etc....so how would he view them then? and what was his reasoning? or is this just a rumor...and his belief in them is inline with what we went over in class?

He viewed that Allah had exactly 99 names and that's it. But he rahimahullah as well didn't agree to the authenticity of the 99 names mentioned by waleed ibn Muslim rahimahullah, he stated that only 60 something (I think 67) are authentic (this from what we learned in ROE), and I have heard shaykh Yasir also say a different number that he (ibn Hazm) said only 80 something (I believe 84) were authentic.

Ya...I know about his view upon this hadith...

I'm actually inquiring about how he viewed Allah's names and attributes (in deviation if any?)....but nevermind because from what I read...it's just hate/propaganda of him being a literalist...and anthropomorphic, etc etc retardedness.

wa iyakum,

I haven't heard or read anything on him rahimahullah going against ahlul sunnah in terms of names and attributes of Allah, or that it was related to mujasimah. The only position which I know is different from the other scholars is that he denies that Allah has more than 99 names. He did hold some fiqh views which stand out from the rest of the scholars though, maybe that's what you heard, wallahu a3lam, but we still benefit from so much of his works and positions.

I believe I heard in a talk that ibn Hazm had some Jahmi interpretations of some of the Names and Attributes. Perhaps if Sh. Yasir or someone can comment on it?

I heard from a shaikh at an AlMaghrib class that he was almost (ALMOST) Jahmee in Tauhid of Asma wal Sifaat. May Allah have mercy on the righteous ulema. Ameen
