I have in my notes that in order to account for some of the differences that exist between the qiraa'at today, we believe that the masaahif that were distributed by 'Uthmaan to the various cities had a few deliberate differences (wassaa VS awsaa, wa laa VS falaa, etc.). Is there any historical documentation of these differences being deliberate, or is this speculation using the logic that it must have been that way in order to maintain that the Qur'aan is preserved?
