Asalaamu Alaykum,

I wanted to ask Shaykh Yasir about these two ingredients which are very common in soups.

When I switched to zabiha, I stopped eating ramen noodle soup, which contained beef fat and beef powder, and I wanted to make sure I made the right decision.

Are these ingredients haraam?
What about the insignificant amount present in the soup?

I haven't found any non-desi ramen soups without such ingredients and would love to go back to these cheap gems if they are halaal :)

Jazakullah khair in advance shaykh.

The shrimp (and I think the oriental) flavor does not contain the beef stock... check the ingredients next time.

Salam

As we studied in class, extremely small amounts of impurity does not make the final product impure.

In this case, 'beef stock' would not constitute a najas (physical impurity), but rather would be prohibited for spiritual reasons for those who believe tasmiya is obligatory (if you haven't taken the class you'll understand when you do). Therefore for such matters, it is more lax than physical najas.

That being said, I would believe that the amount of beef stock added to any broth is not insignficant, since the purpose of adding it is to taste different. Therefore it should be avoided (but please do find out how much is added by calling up the company and posting it here).

Of course, this is supposing that you follow the majority position regarding tasmiyya - if not then beef stock is permissible.

Allah knows best.

Yasir

PS Beef stock does not undergo istihlal, hence that issues plays no role here.
