Its so fun being in a situation where you can help another Qabeelah choose their name.

One piece of advice though - remember that this name is there forever, insha'allah when you are an honorary founding member on the board of Qxxxxx - the name will stay the same.

Think about the long term, whilst some names may seem cool now, will they for new students of the future. Also you must consider how easy it is to build hype and marketing around your chosen name.

Might be worthwhile for someone to post all the meanings of all the names, not just the apparent ones (I may have missed this previously).

May the best name win, bi'idnillah.

Some points:
don't waste your vote: Shebab and Ghurabaa' will be vetoed by executive order if won. They are both too cliche and generic.

Non-Midlanders won't understand the sweetness of the El-Akhi qabeelah name suggestion. So, if you don't like it (and your not from Midlands), don't vote. You'll mess it all up.Enough Said to the grumpy old men....go eat some Wurthers Originals lol.

well strong choice or not, even if it wins the shaykh said it would be vetoed.. and he's the last to decide..... the other names aren't being given a fair chance if ghurabaa is on the list eating up votes that won't matter

also i wanted to suggest, if the midlands feel that shams is manipulating the poll (lol, that was said in a kind way ya shams), then only allow the midlanders to vote.. after all, it's going to be YOUR name, not theirs, so you should be happy with the outcome..

I think people have to step back and think long term.

"El-Akhi" may be funny to some (emphasis on the some) now, it will seem like a lame joke later.

Part of the reason why a person may change their name if it is unpleasent is because Allah 'az wa jal will be calling them by their best names on the day of judgment.

While this is not an individual's name, this is a name you want to be proud of.

On a different note, the name is a disaster for marketing. People will not take you seriously. When you try to reach out to future target audiences who may have never heard of AlMaghrib and first introduce them to your Qabeelah they may not take you as serious.

On another note, "El-Akhi" is just bad arabic grammar. lol I should get Br. Nouman on you guys-- another reason you need Bayyinah ;).

When your name sounds strong and powerful, you yourself will reflect that as a whole... choose wisely...

Here's what I think... From my own username this time...

Why El-Akhi is not a good choice.

- In terms of marketing it won't last long, slogans will be cheesy and even a logo will be difficult to mesmerise the people.

- It's brilliant in the short term, it's fun, it's cool, yet in the long term, the name will get burned out. It won't have a major effect on the audience.

- Ultimately the Qabeelah is full of brothers and sisters, we are cool with it as we know the team, but new students may not feel the same and it has the potential to de-motivate students.

- We have a HUGE vision for the Qabeelah, one of change, of A-Class daw'ah, A-Star players, is THIS name going to help us in our A-Class goal? Is it really and A-Class name?

Think about it brothers and sisters.

As much as I LIKE El-Akhi, I don't think it's the way to go... And Allaah knows best.

What do you all think?

Actually some of the supporters of this name have spent years studying Nahw and Sarf. Believe me it's not down to ignorance of the language lol

Let's face it. Even if El-Akhi wins they're not going to use it anyway. It is already fixed with Faaris. We already know the poll title is trying to get people to not vote El-Akhi as well. So it seems they are extremely adament not to have it. Therefore I say: Midlands crew, just have the name you want. Afterall, it is your Qabeelah and if you want to be called Faaris then so be it. This is our first course, this is the Sura we are studying and this a verse in it which I think describes every one of us, so I think Qabeelat al Rajaa' would be our finest description.
