Bismillah
We were driving down Highway 401 West last night, and I told bintamina and Hala that I HAD to make a thread about what I've seen here in Toronto (well, technically Mississauga).
1- While I was in the grocery store, I see from a distance a huge green and white HALAL sign in the frozen food aisle. Wow. I wish I took a picture.
2- In Majd will you see masajid from the highways. (I saw ISNA and I think Taariq, beautiful buildings mashaAllah)
3- Abu Huraira. Nuff said.
Ameerah Majd invited me to Abu Huraira last night and mashaAllah...I've never seen anything like it, especially with all the youth there in masjid--cleaning, listening to the lecture, greeting the visitors. May Allah azza wa jal increase them, Ameen. And on top of all of this, I was gifted with the Journey of Faith Conference DVD set! Jazaakum Allahu khayran
: D
4- Al Huda Institute is by far the cleanest and most well maintained masjid and school I've ever seen in my life, mashaAllah.
5- Cherry Blasters, Fuzzy Peaches, Smarties, Oh Henry!, Coffee Crisp, Caramel, Mars, Aero.....We're so deprived in the US.
6- Niqaabis. Everywhere.
7- Non Somalis talking about how much they love Somali food. lol this just made me laugh. Desi aunties telling me about the suqaar at Hamdis...
I'm having a great time here in Majd. InshaAllah we'll be checkin out Ta'leemul Islaam soon, can't wait for that!

Asalaam alaykum waramatuallah
Majd is insha’allah under the guidance and protection of Allah azwajaal.
I’ve only visited Al-Huda once for lecture then later one a wedding. That place rocks, masha’allah. London UK has many things similar (many mosques, many muslims)
For the brothers that attend Abu Huraira Masjid you ‘are so lucky. Make shukr to Allah azwajaal that he blessed you with courageous, full of eman young brothers. I try to go there every time I go to Toronto for a visit it’s a nice spot.
Whenever we go to Majd we have to ‘check-out’ Hamdi’s. Subhanallah I remember last year when Sh. Waleed was here as he finished the class a few brothers went with him to guess where ‘Hamdi’s’. Personally it almost seems like my trip wasn’t complete if I didn’t go to Hamdi’s and habib’s book store.
For the brothers that go to Khalid bin Waleed masjid you guys are amazing! That place keeps you occupied like there’s no tomorrow masha’allah. Me being Somali and where I’m at there’s only limited somali’s that I know, but when you go to places like Toronto, UK, MIN it’s seems like mini-somali county…lol
The solution is very clear Yusra, move to Toronto.
Okay, well at least come back to visit occasionally.
I loved exploring Toronto (mostly Mississauga) with you alhamdulilah. Tuesdays' events didn't make it on your list though... : )

Just wondering how far is Mississauga away from Toronto?
Also, Isn't my Shake Said, Imam of Masjid Abu Hurairah?
I wish I could see him again. I remember him back in MD. when he was Imam of Ayah masjid. He was an awesome Imam, was so humble mA, and used to be so nice with the kids (He made me enjoy going to the Masjid!)I guess it depends on what your location is, from where I live, the beginning of Mississauga is about half an hour away...most people just consider it part of Toronto :)
And Yes Sh. Said is the Imam of Abu Hurairah
5- Cherry Blasters, Fuzzy Peaches, Smarties, Oh Henry!, Coffee Crisp, Caramel, Mars, Aero.....We're so deprived in the US.
WOW!! how Tragic :(... oh and you forgot Tim Hortons :) or do you guys have that?

Br Shaami, yes he's the Imaam there. MashaAllah he gave a really awesome lecture when I was there last night. After him was another awesome shaykh, AbdulGhaniyy Basheer, who gave the best talk on mothers (he titled it: ummi) I've ever heard mashaAllah. I hope they put it online soon inshaAllah.
Halle Ma: Nope, no Timmies here. I'm not a fan of coffee/hot drinks and desserts, so I didn't mention it lol. But yea, we don't have that or Second Cup.
ya ukhti Mariam...I ask Al Wadood to make you among those whom He loves. Ameen.
SubhanAllah, I was telling Hala just an hour or two ago that we underestimate the power of righteous companions. Shaykh Sa'eed even mentioned last night the famous statement of Umar radi Allahu anhu: if you find yourself a righteous friend, then hold on to him tightly.
Indeed Allah ta'ala has blessed me with righteous sisters around me, and I ask Him Al Kareem to increase all of you in goodness. Ameen.

Since I don't know Somali 'xamar weyne' sounds highly suspect, what do those words mean?
It's a restaurant, in toronto.
In English it's spelled 'Hamar Weyne', Xamar is a 'city back home or a group' and weyne means 'big' , if I'm lacking in my explanation please someone jump in...

This is off topic but I was thinking about which race Al-Maghrib students generally belong to. I came up with the following numbers based on what I've seen.
35% Arab
25% Pakistani
20% Somali
15% American
5% Other
Does that sound about right?
^ Muslims: 100%! Islam : Priceless
I couldn't resists myself, felt like that was good time pull that off. Shami, i have no idea about those numbers, they look alright though?

Yeah that sounds about right, Big Hamar is what I'd translate it into. It's a Somali restaurant, famous for their Mango Shakes/Smoothies, I'd say.

Where are the 35% arabs?
Probably in Ittihaad.
From my observation, Wasat seemed to be 90% desi. (over 2 years ago) I'm not too sure about Majd... Rabia would know best.

Hala, you just indirectly answered a question that i have had for about 2-3 years! jazahkAllahu kheir :)
As for Haadi its about 60-70% Desi's, maybe 15% Arabs and maybe 10% Somali's but we are all 100% Muslim as brother Ahmed mentioned.

From what I've seen here in Ittihaad and Wasat, it seems that there are a good amount of Arabs.
Maybe in QMajd it's different.
Probably 50% Somali (Right Ahmed? AhabakaAllah!)
That's why I was asking, because I might be wrong and just wanted to see what others thought.bro I think Ittihaad's high arab population is an unusual exception, mashaAllah. Isnt it true that SE Michigan has the world's highest Yemeni population, for example, outside of Yemen itself? That official government signs are posted in English, Hispanic, and Arabic, just in the Ann Arbor-Detroit area?
(I used to live in Rochester Hills/ Detroit for about 2 years :D)
Most other cities probably wont have similar representations...

But to make a long story short, I asked this question because I wanted to find out where the the general students of Al-Maghrib are from for each Qabeelah.
Once I get the statistics I would analyze them and find out who is missing.
Thereafter, I would want to find out why a certain 'peoples' are missing and if there is anything Al-Maghrib can do to change it and make it better. At Majd the big community that is missing are Arabs and I think Bosnians (considering there are quite a lot of Bosnians here)!!
The big Majority is desi followed by somali

Alhamdulillah, I got to go to AlHuda while in Toronto. MashaAllah, amazing. Definitely highlight of the trip. I saw so many (former) Windsor sisters =), Dr. Farhat Hashmi (mashaAllah), Ustadha Iffat Maqbool, and all the sisters there... just the whole environment was amazing mashaAllah. We got to sit in the class with the full-time sisters. It was so nice mashaAllah! Beats online anyday, but alhamdulillah.
And the wedding I had the honour of attending at AlHuda... mashaAllah following sunnah to the dot. May Allah (swt) bless their marriage! Ameen.
