Assalam Alaykum wa Rahmatullah

As I sit here looking at an empty folder and thinking of what insha Allah will become many threads related to this great surah and amazing seminar, I thought I would start off with what spurred my love for tafseer.

My passion is and has always been Fiqh. But back when I was in Madinah, I remember being mesmerised by our tafseer course. Just as for many of you, your first AlMaghrib course was BOC, likewise my journey with tafseer also began with tafseer Surah al-Baqarah.

What really amazed me, was that no matter what Islamic science you enjoyed, whether aqeedah, fiqh, seerah or something else, it all went back to the Qur'an, and as such, you could study it all from tafseer.

Surah Baqarah contains issues of Aqeedah, rulings and laws, stories of the past prophets and nations and so much more. Till this day, this still sticks with me and it is what drives my love for tafseer.

Tafseer Surah al-Kahf is no different in this regard.

That's my story with tafseer, why do you love tafseer?

wa alaykum salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu Ustadh,

mashaAllah, beautiful.

I love tafseer because through it, the Qur'an becomes a practical Book and not a story book. Through tafseer, we are able to extract benefits and action items from the Words of Allah azza wa jal that are not apparent to us because we are so disconnected from the language.

I never realized the importance and weight of tafseer until I completed the tafseer of the Qur'an alhamdulillah. I can't imagine now how Muslims live their whole lives without having a lesson in tafseer or seeking to learn it.

My favorite parable regarding tafseer was stated by Iyaas ibn Mu'awiyah rahimahullah:
“The example of a people who recite the Qur’an and do not know its explanation is like a group of people who have a written message from their king that comes to them during the night, and they do not have a lamp. Therefore, they do not know what is in the message. The example of one who knows tafseer is like a person who comes to them with a lamp and reads to them what is in the message.”

The parable of Iyaas ibn Mu'awiyah rahimahullah was mashaAllah very beautiful, Jazakallah khair for sharing.

tayb, well your right shaykh my first class with Almaghrib was BOC and that did open lots of doors for me in seeing the book of Allah in another light. I love tafseer because every ayah there's a lesson, statement, story, or some kind of concept khair that will benefit everyone. MashaAllah.

I remember taking R114 (science of quran), it really helped alot and was very foggclearing ya3ni the whole process of the revalation and the importance of understanding of why each ayah was revealed and their story behind it( azbabul'nazsol). The more you learn about tafseer the more you become more attached to the seerah of our nabi muhammad sallahu alayhi wasalaam, and your love for him and his companions will increase simultaneously.

It is reported from Al-Fudayl (b. ‘Ayyâd) that he said:

The Qurân was sent down to be acted upon but people have taken just reciting it as enough of a deed. He was asked, “How is it acted upon?” He replied, “They should treat as halâl what it makes halâl and treat as harâm what it makes harâm, they should take on its commandments and stay away from what it forbids, and they should stop to ponder its amazing knowledge and wisdom.”

I love tafseer because it's sooooo hypnotizing. What I mean is I'll go into a book of tafseer looking for the tafseer of one specific ayah, and while flipping to that page, something will catch my eye, then I'll read that and it'll happen again on the way to the ayah again, and before I know it, hours have passed of me just reading tafseer.

Bismillah,

Most definitely, tafseer courses are so great because of the beautiful quran recitations. Subhanallah, the impact it has on you is so great and gives the whole seminar that extra boost.
With such an awesome recitor like Sh.Ahsan Hanif, I'm sure the seminar will surpass the expectations... by a mile!

Right now, I just also can't wait for Ramadhan- the taraweeh prayers- praying behind Sheikh Ahsan. Most definitely some of the highlights of Ramdhan!!!
WaSalaam.

Tafseer paints vivid pictures in our minds.

Tafseer inscribes the word of Allah in our hearts.

That's why I love tafseer.

Assalaamu'Alykum,

I love tafseer for many reasons.
Shaykh Muhammad Al-Shareef taught me another reason: DA'WAH. Allah (SWT) has given us the best da'wah material and training. Through tafseer we can decode it.

Wa Alykum Assalaam

That is a beautiful parable. Jazak Allah Khairan for sharing..

I had an opportunity of embarking a journey of Tafseer of Qur'an ; which I am very grateful for. It was a two year course of learning the Qur'an word for word translation... within ICNA [Islamic Circle of North America]. Fortunately, the sister who started the institute in Bahrain ; had restarted the same exact program as well . [i]Subhan Allah talk about someone who goes to places and rekindles the place with the light of Islam everywhere they go. May Allah[swt] reward her immensely for all the hardwork. So, by learning tafseer I was able to fully understand the essense behind each ayah, parables described in Qur'an and sooo much moree.. It is something that hits you deep down and with every ayah you get sooo much out of it. For someone whose native language is not arabic & by Arabic I mean "The arabic of Qur'an" not the one that is spoken nowadays in college classes.. Tafseer is the way to learn what Allah is relating to us in DETAILS.

It is like taking a fruit , squeezing it and you see how much liquid comes out from one fruit. Just like that if you take an ayah, learn its tafseer, then you will see how much lessons can be derived from it. There are usually plenty in One ayah.. << Ok, fruit juice wasn't a good example. but you get the point .. ;)

So, basically Tafseer has been my ALL TIME favorite subject :D

One day I sat and began to read the quran. I read almost all day and on to the next until I was finihsed using the english translation. I still wanted more, but that was the beginning of the sparks of my love for Tafseer. Alhamdullilaah I've taken many courses since then and in my 6th month of a Quran Program with Alhuda Institute and 1/3rd of the way through. Subhanallah, words cannot express my joy in picking up the quran , reading it and being immersed in it. it is definately more than just stories and admonitions . It has a deeper impact in my life. I can take from it and apply to daily life, each surah, each verse as if it was written for my life and my situation, for what to avoid and what direction to take.

Assalama 'Alaykum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu,

I absolutely agree with the title of this thread..masha'Allah, I can't truly explain how amazing this particular topic is and just experiencing the book of Allah via tafseer mode. About 5 months ago, a bunch of sisters and I started taking classes with Al-Huda, all dedicated to the book of Allah, the bulk of info dealing with Tafseer, and subhana'Allah till this day I tell myself that I've come a bit closer to understanding that hadeeth of Aisha r.a who ones was asked about the character of the Prophet sal allahu sallam, and she said "his character was the Quran" Meaning, through explainations of these verses, the do's and don'ts, the history, and everything behind it we are a bit closer to understanding the way the Prophet sal allahu sallam was, as well as draw a full understanding of such a noble book and implement in our lives.

In the same manner, Tafseer speaks to the hearts of the people, in a way that I can't completely convey in words. We always hear the saying, this book is a source of guidance, but truly when we look at the context and dig deep (tafseer) we can fully grasp it and utilize as a source of guidance. So in essence, I can only try as much as I can to explain my love of Tafseer, and I don't know if I even come close to it, indeed it is why I have a soft spot for the mufasireens of the Quran such as Ibn Kather-and the beloved companion with the skinny legs whom the Prophet s.a.w. said these alone will weigh more than the mountain of Uhud in Yawmul Qiyam i.e our dear Abdullah Ibn Mas3ood r.a. Indeed, there is something about one who learns this blessed book, and then talks in depth of what varous companions said of the context in its revelation, and to know that for one to make conclusions such as these that he has to know this blessed book inside out....subhana'Allah.

May Allah make us of those who dig deeper in this blessed book!

Wa'alaykuma Salam Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu,

Tafser is by far the subject I LOVE THE MOST! I began studdying tafser for a litle over a year now, and i absoloutly love it out of everything , including fiqh! Teh reson why, is because when you study tafseer, you discover the hidden things behind Allah Ta'alla's words. Through tafseer, you learn arabic as well , and you learn things like why Allat SWT uses this word instead of this and the why is always amaizing to discover. This motivated me in wanting to memorize the holy Qur'an and also learn Arabic. Tafseer is just the bom!, and InshAllah I can't wait for teh tafseer of the beautiful surah al Kahf.

i LOVE tafseer b/c i love studying the quran and knowing what's conveyed to us. i love knowing what i'm reading so when i read the translation of the surahs, sometimes it'll leave me with confusion and immediately I go to tafseer, thats where all my confusion gets cleared up. There's so much in the quran that we have yet to find out.
Rightnow, i feel like getting my degree in quran instead of something else.

I love tafseer because through it the Qur'an comes to life, learning (Quranic) Arabic has a similar effect: All of a sudden you understand the meaning of an ayah you may have been reciting for years but not understood - nothing can beat that feeling where the meaning of the ayah suddenly dawns on you.

But then to go and learn its tafseer takes it to another level because the meaning in that ayah and those lessons become ingrained in you for life.

I love tafseer because I noticed that when the companions conquered a new land, this was the course they taught. It made me realize how important it is to attach people to the Quran.

This was the foundation of their success. This is the knowledge that led to all the other great branches of knowledge.
