View Full Version : Single vs. Married

Salaam Alaikum

So you ever have one of those days where you just want to start some trouble? I've had that feeling all morning.

So I was looking at Tayybah's registered of 117 before the seminar and 42 paid and thinking to myself..."Someone's going to get challenged today" but then I thought...who?

Tayybah has a long history of competitions, we've competed with Wasat, Hayl, Durbah, Haqq and of course Shams. We've won all of them..we've competed with each other between the boroughs, and have had individual tournament style competitions (I forgot who won that one ;) ). We used to rock those.

But then I thought..Tayybah's too old now, they're too busy...too married. As such it's showing all the familiar symptoms of all the other middleaged married Qabeelahs; Haadi and Salaam.

Then I thought..if there was one competition that has NEVER happeend in Tayybah yet..it's that one.

Single vs. Married.

You know how as soon as a brother and sister get married, they start to look around at their single friends and are like.."Ok its time for you to get married." I'm like why? So I can become "busy" cuz I'm "married!" I'm really interested in acquiring the flat tire look, it suits you real well ;)

I wonder if the married couples will accept this challenge...Allah knows there are enough of them. But they may just be content cuddling up with their loved ones, whispering pious irrelevancies and sanctimonious trivialities.

It's time to find out who the weakest link is!

The rules:

As usual, all that counts is registration. Teams are broken up as single vs. married. Deadline is Tuesday at 9PM.
If the married couples lose or if they choose not to participate due to engagements other than dawah; they will accept being referred to as Br/Sr. Flat-tire until the seminar..the Ameer and Ameerah will be refereed to as Ameer al-flat-tires...and the Ameerah will be Ameerat al-lasaatik al naa'imah. . If the singles lose...they will get married (some day)

P.S. If you are married but wish that you were single, your registrants will be counted towards the singles team in confidence.
P.P.S: If you are engaged..guess what? You're still single.

For everyone who is down..simply reply with "You're on"

the poll is closed though?

Ammar AlShukry
01-27-2010, 11:35 AM
The poll is closed because its not a vote.

You have to work and actually register someone for the class, after which you post here with a

+1

and it will get added. As of right now both groups are at 0.

Let the games begin!

I'm still struggling to find words........wow.

Ok. I'm in.

"Flat tires" need to reinflate.
Hope they still know how to "burn" and "bake."
;)

And to our beloved Ameerah, I love you but that name is a bit too awesome to be ignored. Pray we don't get to use it! :D

Wow, sabotage already?

Even Durbah gives us a full day before they begin at the seminars.
Ts, tsk.

But ma sha Allah, being married only increases delusions, huh?
Good to know. In sha Allah you get at least the first digit up there.

So far we have 3 on the singles team and 1 offical taker on the marriage team.

These are the responses so far:

" I take cuddling very personally.
Look at this audacity

[portion edited ;)] Homes, I am so tempted to say you are on. But I have to go ask my wife first, fix the flat tire and then check the calender. :)and

I'm giving dawah to my spouse, sorry can't partake In fairness a married sister responded and was up for the challenge (apparently marriage deflates brothers more than sisters)

Wa Alaykum As Salaam Warahmatullah,

Masha Allah very well written ya Ameer ul-Muwahideen (and I don't mean that in the theological sense). It screams of denial on so many levels but I won't even begin to address that.

OF COURSE I'm DOWN insha Allah. Especially after your subtle Queens-esque way of trashing some o the married ones. Looks like the married sisters are coming along..if they could only convert their husbands to the lions they were before they got married!

No No No...you got it all wrong Ammar. Your a certified what again? I wonder how her and Sr. Sadaf are going to rally the married couples of Tayyah and beat the SINGLETONS. This would be interesting to see indeed.

Wow can you just imagine the competitive stench that will be breezing through that room full of single sisters vs. married sisters at the Muslimah Event Sunday FEB 7th. Everyone is gonna rush to try to register someone! The pushing, the shoving...O MY!

Ya Nadeem, we are drowning in loss,
no where to go, nothing to do
but the ranting of our own abusive talk;
Lost in the pittiness of my cries
The Ameer arrives to brighten my eyes
Ya Ameer Ya Ameer the people cried
If your arrival had been any later this thread would have died.

The revival of this thread has begun everyone
Nadeem Ramjan is here! Nadeem Ramjan is here!
Surely this is no simple surprise,
Perhaps he's got a trick or two in disguise,
To beat the singletons he says?
Ha Ha...I laugh at you all as my numbers begin to rise;

This thread is the place to meet,
If you wish to meet your defeat,
But where else were one to go to entertain such low blows,
Perhaps in this thread (http://forums.almaghrib.org/showthread.php?t=38999)you may wish to go;

But let us not digress,
This competition is not about to rest,
Until one team wins...

And of course it will be the Singletons.

Marvelously married vs Happily Single is the title of this thread,
So keep on reading because there is more to be said,
Nadeem, Sadaf, Heba and more by far,
Try to defeat a team lead by tha Star!

So help one team win by clicking over here (http://www.almaghrib.org/enroll.php),
To enroll in a class that you will soon be near,
Dr. Ali Shehata is the instructor you will see,
To experience the 40 hadeeth Nawawi,

So soften your heart with these beautiful words
Perhaps some you may have even heard
But it serves a wonderful reminder
For us all to reflect
That in this world there are some things you cannot neglect
The words of your Prophet
That is one to be treasured
The knowledge you learn will be something unmeasured

So Qabeelat Tayybah is the place to be
For a class held in February
So why still do you delay
When you know you will come
For us all to join over for some brotherly fun

So register here (http://www.almaghrib.org/enroll.php)
And do not delay
For you may regret it on the last day

So hopefully we see you all there!

More then one Friday came and passed since the start of this competition, however if married folks are up for it, then we can always have a round 2 =D

Let's give them a chance to wipe the egg off their faces first.

(For the fobs amongst us: Egg on your face means to be embarrassed. This idiom has two possible origins both coming from the 1950s. It may have come from a sloppy eater who had a lot of food on his or her face and was embarrassed by it. It also may have come from audiences throwing raw eggs at a performer on the stage that they didn't like. The performer would get very embarrassed.)

Who runs Tayybah the poll reads
Clearly the one with the most number of deeds
Register I say is all I need to convey
To gather hundreds all in one day

So obviously the singles rule as you all can see
Tayybah is run on big numbers - not one, two, nor three
So come gather here to cheer for all of us
As the married team makes a big silly fuss
Complaining about What is this I see
A thread with a deadline What a mystery
No Omer - there is no conspiracy

So we all gather here in this thread
To wonder what who had said
As the singles enjoy their victory

Is this because your registration and scholarship volunteers are both single?

Umm that doesn't count Brooklyn.

You could have grabbed the opportunity by bringing the sisters to registration table and claiming them for married folks, but you missed the boat =P

I came across this excellent reminder that Ammar Al Shukry wrote after our Torch Bearers seminar in Oct 08. I highlighted a couple of points that stood out to me.

Insha Allah it brings benefit to all of us here.

Bismillah.

Shaykh Waleed commented in Torch Bearers on the phenomenon that happens to some sisters (and brothers) after getting married. Shaykh Waleed said that after they were previously so involved in dawah, they become like flat tires...

The class roared in laughter.

After the class was over, I noticed that it became like a catchphrase, brothers were calling each other flat tires, sisters were calling each other flat tires, and people were describing themselves as such as well. Shaykh Waleed gave marriage as the cause, but indeed many a tire has been punctured by things other than marriage.

Firstly, the importance of words and the effect that they have on a persons self image is known. One example will suffice of how Rasul Allah sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam would take great care to let his companions know that all of them had worth. Altirmidhi narrates in his Shama'il with an authentic chain that a beduin by the name of Zahir Al-Aslami was one day selling in the marketplace. The Messenger of Allah Sal Allahu alayhi wa salam crept up behind him and wrapped his arms around Zahir, raising his voice and yelling "Who will purchase this slave?" Zahir looked back at the Messenger of Allah sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam and said "You will find me not worth much oh Messenger of Allah." The prophet sal Allahu alayhi wa salam corrected his self perception by saying "But you are, in the sight of Allah, expensive."

Secondly, though responsibilities and environments change, I believe that it should never be a deterrant from dawah, the form may change, the audience may change, but as the saying goes; the dawah must go on.

We know the story of the sahabi who got married, spent one night with his new wife, woke up the next morning and joined a campaign, by that afternoon he was martyred.

Umm Sulaym the mother of Anas ibn Malik, was approached by Abu Talha Al-Asadi for marriage. He had prepared a large amount of money for her dowry. She said to him "Abu Talha you are a mushrik and I am a believing woman. Accept Islam and that will be my dowry." The narrator said "I dont know anyone who had a greater dowry than her; her dowry was Islam."

Fatimah Alsamarqandiyyah made her dowry the explanation of her fathers book.

So although Umm Sulaym and Fatimahs status were changing, see how they still had dawah in their minds, where they converted their dowries into services for Islam.

So if this was the case with those who were married, what about those who's intentions change without any change in their social status?

Thirdly, one of my major gems from Torch Bearers was the importance of consistency. The Messenger of Allah sal Allahu alayhi wa salam said to a man who was asking for final advice, "Say I believe in Allah and be steadfast." Don't sway, don't falter, don't change. AlMutarrif was consistent in his logic and worship, he would not sway though the winds of fitnah uprooted many, Umar ibn Abdelaziz was consistent as he ascended from citizen of Madinah to the Khalifah in Damascus, AlBaqi' ibn Makhlad was consistent in seeking knowledge from an imprisoned Imam Ahmed, until his own knowledge became sought after.

Aisha narrated that when the family of the Messenger sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam would perform an action, they would be consistent in it.

May Allah azza wa jal forever keep our tires inflated, no matter what vehicle they carry, as they travel down the straight path to His pleasure.
