Assalamu alaikum
Alhamdulilah, I was blessed with an opportunity to go on Islamic Spain Heritage Tour II (http://www.islamicspain.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=118&Itemid=220) with Sh.Abdullah Hakim Quick. Masha Allah! It was an amazing experience to actually visit the places about which I learnt in Western Sunrise class. On top of that, visiting the place along with an excellent tour guide and Sh.Abdullah was like cherry on the cake. Masha Allah!
Sh.Abdullah started the tour with an overview of the history starting from the period after Prophet Esa(pbuh) and went all the way till 7th century there by laying a foundation of pre-history of Andalus.
This tour isnt just about visiting the places and taking pictures but its got much more to that. Thru out the tour we were learning lessons of the past...like what ingredients made them so successful and what ingredients made them fall apart and what lessons we muslims today should learn from them etc.

We can learn history in many forms...reading a book;attending a lecture; watching a documentary etc. But learning history by visiting the places directly along with a scholar gives an excellent experience and a new perspective.
