A small abridged version of the book called Nobles of Morals(Akhlaq) by Iman ibn Taymiyyah translated and published by Dar Al Ghadd Al Gadeed, al-Mansoura, Egypt. The translation is not very good.
But the topics on different branches of Akhlaq with the related ayat of the Quran and the hadith give a good understanding of how to improve ones Akhlaq.

Title: Jerusalem in the Qur'an (an Ansari Memorial Series)
author: Imran N. Hosein
publisher: Masjid Dar al-Qur'an, NY
Printed by; Percetakan Zafar Sdn. Bhd.
Excerpt from the book
" This book has been written for precisely this purpose - to explain to Muslims the strange world in which we live today. It is a world in which the cause of Islam appears to be a lost cause. But having read this book the reader would now know, if he or she had not already known it, that the reality is quitte different. When they know for certain that it is the destiny of Jerusalem to give a spectacular validation of Islam's claim to Truth, Muslims should be able to summon the strength to resist the present war on Islam in which the godless world is making the greatest possible effort to destroy their faith in Allah Most High".
I believe this book is a MUST read for all Muslims, especially who some what feel lost in this uncertain period, end of time (akhir zaman). Ustaz Imran N. Hosein put across crystal clear arguments based on Al-Quran and Al-Hadith. In addition to that he gave numerous past and current and up to date events or examples to support the argument.

This is another book I would recommend for those who enjoyed reading and learned something from "The Tipping Point" by Malcolm Gladwell. [Hint hint: Ameers with 'monkeys' on their backs: pay attention!]
BLINK: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking
By Malcolm Gladwell
Brief Synopsis:
How do we make decisions--good and bad--and why are some people so much better at it than others? That's the question Gladwell asks and answers in the follow-up to his huge bestseller, The Tipping Point. Utilizing case studies as diverse as the shooting of Amadou Diallo, Gladwell reveals that what we think of as decisions made in the blink of an eye are much more complicated than assumed. Drawing on cutting-edge neuroscience and psychology, he shows how the difference between good decision-making and bad has nothing to do with how much information we can process quickly, but on the few particular details on which we focus. Leaping boldly from example to example, displaying all of the brilliance that made The Tipping Point a classic, Gladwell reveals how we can become better decision makers--in our homes, our offices, and in everyday life. The result is a book that is surprising and transforming. Never again will you think about thinking the same way.
WARNING:
There are certain places in the book that talk about inappropraite relationship between men & women (i.e., speed-dating) SKIP IT insha Allah!

Their are many books written on the way to pray but this one is different. It is written by the great scholar Imam Ahmed bin Hanbal. This treatise was written for the people of a community with whom Imam Ahmed had prayed a number of times. During his salah, he noticed that most of them were not performing salah properly, so he wrote this short treatise.
Its called (the english translation)
'Ahmad ibn Hanbal's treatise on Prayer (Salah)'
A must read for all, because the Salah is one of the most important pillars of Islam and perfecting it is a duty on all.

A People's History of the United States : 1492-Present
By Howard Zinn
Brief Synopsis:
Consistently lauded for its lively, readable prose, this revised and updated edition of A People's History of the United States turns traditional textbook history on its head. Howard Zinn infuses the often-submerged voices of blacks, women, American Indians, war resisters, and poor laborers of all nationalities into this thorough narrative that spans American history from Christopher Columbus's arrival to an afterword on the Clinton presidency.
Addressing his trademark reversals of perspective, Zinn--a teacher, historian, and social activist for more than 20 years--explains, "My point is not that we must, in telling history, accuse, judge, condemn Columbus in absentia. It is too late for that; it would be a useless scholarly exercise in morality. But the easy acceptance of atrocities as a deplorable but necessary price to pay for progress (Hiroshima and Vietnam, to save Western civilization; Kronstadt and Hungary, to save socialism; nuclear proliferation, to save us all)--that is still with us. One reason these atrocities are still with us is that we have learned to bury them in a mass of other facts, as radioactive wastes are buried in containers in the earth."
If your last experience of American history was brought to you by junior high school textbooks--or even if you're a specialist--get ready for the other side of stories you may not even have heard. With its vivid descriptions of rarely noted events, A People's History of the United States is required reading for anyone who wants to take a fresh look at the rich, rocky history of America.--This text refers to the Paperback edition.
Declarations of Independence
By Howard Zinn
Brief Synopsis:
In these informal, challenging essays that link the personal to the political, Zinn ( A People's History of the United States ) aims to shake complacency, to challenge what he calls "American orthodoxies" or received opinions about history and government. He charges that Machiavellian tactics have dominated policies of presidents in their pursuit of "national security interests." Calling the American economic system "shamefully wasteful and unjust," the Boston University political scientist urges a "real war on poverty" and on pollution, a turnaround in national priorities away from massive military spending. Recognition that the Soviet Union is a police state, he believes, should not lead us to embrace "fanatical anticommunism" or to justify the U.S. government's control over other countries. He argues that there are no just wars, accuses the major media of slavishness to government-business control and knocks social theories that resort to "human nature" to explain war and class inequities.
WARNING:
Don't get ahead of yourself and join forces with Zinn and his ilk, and start preaching his gospel. Read this book to learn about the other side of history, of this great nation of ours. Insha Allah, I hope you benefit.

Book American Jihad Islam after Malcolm X
By Steven Barboza
My Review...
~The Book examines the lives of different Muslims in American when Islam was at the early stages of expanding. It is purely written to relay the Islamic experience of reverts and how they came to embrace Islam, the Political, Social and Spiritual transitions they went through (this in essence is what Jihad embodies in the Book).
Some of the people profiled include; famous names like Mohamed Ali, Karim Abdul Jabbar and Robert Diskson, the former foreign policy adviser to Richard Nixon and ambassador to UAE who all became Muslim. In addition, there are also accounts of persons who were born into Islam in order to convey how they maintained and applied Islam in mainstream America.
This is a Book that demands a reader who is open minded and wants to explore the personal elements of Jihad experienced by some influential, some intriguing and some controversial people from the United States. It touches on different themes, ideologies and Historical events. It is inspiring to read, very engaging and different.
I liked it..

Beneficial Speech in Establishing the Evidences of Tawheed
By Shaykh Muhammad Ibn 'Abdil-Wahhaab al-Wasaabee
Summary:
Al-Qawlul-Mufeed Fi Adillatit-Tawheed - The book before you is an excellent work explaining that which Allaah has sent down to the Messenger Muhammad, may the peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him, and indeed to all of the Messengers before him, from Nooh (Noah) to ‘Eesaa (Jesus), may Allaah’s peace be upon them all. The Message they came with was to establish Tawheed, the command to single out Allaah, the sole Creator, Provider and Sustainer of all that exists, with worship. Likewise, the Messengers clarified and warned from all of those matters that oppose Tawheed. To associate partners with Allaah in His worship violates His Tawheed and constitutes polytheism (Shirk). The author, may Allaah preserve him, brings the definitions, evidences and categories of Tawheed and likewise for Shirk in a very clear and succinct manner.

Parables from the Qur'aan
by Imaam 'Abdur-Rahmaan Ibn Naasir as-Sa'dee
Summary:
Before you O reader, are ten parables from the Qur'aan wherein our Lord and Creator, the One Alone deserving of our worship, has revealed parables by which we may be guided to His worship and servitude and warned against associating partners in worship alongside Him. He, the Most High, has stated:
"See you not how Allaah sets forth a parable?.."
The parables are explained by Imaam As-Sa'dee in a manner that causes one to reflect and one's Eemaan to be strengthened and increased. As Imaam As-Sa'dee, may Allaah's Mercy be upon him, states:
"So giving parables which show concepts in the light of physical examples enables the meaning which Allaah intended to become fully clear and apparent."
We pray that Allaah, the Most High, brings about benefit by way of this beautiful explanation of Imaam As-Sa'dee.

SubhaanAllah, I just wanted to put an emphasis on the benefit of this book. May Allaah ta'ala reward the author for this great work. "We pray that the heart rendering narrations that the author has so carefully chosen will act as a means of softening our hearts, purifying our souls and permanently changing our outlook on our short lives in ths world"
And subhaanAllah, it surely does strike the heart with its powerful content. Wallahu 'alam, it makes one more adamant in striving for the akhirah.

The History of the Qur'anic Text from Revelation to Compilation, by shaykh Muhammad Mustafa A'zami
An Introduction to the Conservation of Hadith in light of the Sahifah of Hammam ibn Munabbih, by Dr. Muhammad Hamidullah
The last book in this list is really, really interesting, and a must read for Hadith lovers. It contains within it the Hadith collection that sayyidina Abu Hurayrah (radhi Allahu anh) compiled for a student of his. The author uses extant manuscripts of this Sahifah and compares them with later Hadith collectiuons (such as the Musnad of Imam Ahmad, rahmatullahi alayh) to show that the later Hadith collectors faithfully narrated the Ahadith from generation to generation, and that the arguments of the Orientalists against the Prophetic Hadith are unjustified and based on malice.

Tafsir Ibn Kathir -abrigded- Juz Amma. only $10, I got it for $7.50 because the condition wasn't the best, alhamdulillah.
bi'ithnillah most of us have Juz Amma memorized, so having the detailed tafsir is really great alhamdulillah....and if you do not have Juz Amma memorized, Allah is the Best of Planners, this book will give you that final push! inshaAllah :D

The DAY of WRATH
Is the Intifadha of Rajab only the Beginning?
Shaykh Safar Ibn `Abd Al-Rahman Al-Hawali
Author's Introduction
All praise belongs to Allah alone, and blessings and peace be upon the final Prophet:
The contents of this booklet are glad tidings to the oppressed people of the occupied territories particularly, and to all Muslims in general. However, it was not written to give them glad tidings, the Qur'an and the Sunna are sufficient for that purpose. Any other source has limits to its reliability and therefore cannot be the basis of Muslim belief, in contrast to what is supposed by some Christians, Jews and Muslims. No, this booklet was written only to outline terms for engagement with the theoretical foundations of Zionism in its two facets: Jewish Zionism and Christian Zionism, the enemy which has distracted the world, and filled the airwaves as well as books with talk of Biblical Prophecy –especially since the latest intifadha.
The study of prophecy is one of the subjects of futurist studies, except that prophecy contains that which is authentic and that which is not. The reader deserves to hear the final verdict on this all-important subject, and the Muslim reader especially deserves to have the reserves called out for this long, vicious battle. The reserves in this case being the topical study of the doctrinal foundations of the enemy's psyche and behavior from his own sources which are the spiritual foundation of his faith in his cause.
When doing this we are not in actuality producing anything new, but are only following the example of the Qur'anic methodology that teaches us to go back to the scriptural sources in order to prove our case and compel the falsifier:
“Say, 'bring forth the Torah and read it if you are truthful'”
As we know they are knowingly concealing the truth and obscuring it with falsehood.
If the justness of the cause is the spiritual foundation of the fighter, then the Torah does not merely prove that cause of the Zionist soldier is unjust, but that it is his duty to fight for the opposing side, and that the settler must understand that his coming to this land only serves to bring down the torment and wrath of Allah upon him. Thus, the least he can do is to depart, although we would love to see him rightly-guided to Allah's light and become our brother in Islam -which is the Faith of Abraham- and to share with us in the blessing of faith in all of Allah's scriptures and messengers without discriminating against any of them.
He should not delay his departure or his Islam until the day of wrath when he may lose the opportunity. It is my advice to every Jew in our occupied territories not to leave the Torah as the exclusive property of the Rabbis who receive free exclusion from the mandatory military service, while he must put his life on the line for it and them. I advise him to read it, but with his intelligence and awareness, not with the Rabbis glosses and interpretations, and he will discover the truth, which will soon be clearly seen by the whole world.
He should also understand that no matter what atrocities he commits against us, whether killing our children, or burning our crops, or corrupting our lives, we will only deal with him according to the law of Allah, not according to our desires. We want only for him, and for all mankind, to achieve Allah's pleasure and happiness in this life and the next.
The complete account and just sentence will only be given on the Day of Judgment before Allah Himself, who shall judge each of us according to the good or evil which we have done. At that time our claims will be to no avail:
“It is not according to your desires, nor the desires of the followers of the Bible. Whoever does evil will be requited for it, and he will find no supporter or helper besides Allah.”
This is a word of fairness to which we hold ourselves, and to which we hope our opponents will have the courage to hold themselves, or attempt to hold themselves.

DISCOURSES ON ISLAMIC LAW AND MATTERS OF PUBLIC CONCERN
Shaykh Salman al-Oadah
When a contemporary development comes along with sweeping implications and numerous interrelated causes, many people, even some who are supposed to be specialists, begin to talk about it glibly. It is as if the novelty and general interest of the matter strips it of the aura of respect that matters of Islamic Law are supposed to command. People tend to view the issue as an example of Islamic Law's flexibility or as a matter of public domain. They forget the implications that the matter must have for the rights and welfare of the people as a whole - which are the very things that Islamic Law has come to secure and uphold.

ISLAM AND SECULARISM
Shaykh Salman al-Oadah
The struggle between Islam and secularism is nothing new. It is just the age old struggle between Islam and Jâhiliyyah in a new guise. Jâhiliyyah, the way of ignorance, comes in many forms, has many names, and adopts various symbols, but it always has the same common denominator – polytheism. The conflict between Islam and secularism is none other than the conflict between Islam and polytheism. It is the struggle against the enemies of the Prophets that began in antiquity when Allah sent the very first Prophet to humanity and it will continue until Allah puts an end to the Earth and everything on it.

Let's see...after Rizq Management class, I would be lying if I didn't say I wana give the most amount of zakah in North America. You know what this means right - it means I need to become a Billionaire ASAP. Here are some books I read to understand how Millionaires do their thang......:D
The Millionaire Next Door by Thomas J. Stanley, William D. Danko
Brief Synopsis:
How can you join the ranks of America's wealthy (defined as people whose net worth is over one million dollars)? It's easy, say doctors Stanley and Danko, who have spent the last 20 years interviewing members of this elite club: you just have to follow seven simple rules. The first rule is, always live well below your means. The last rule is, choose your occupation wisely. You'll have to buy the book to find out the other five. It's only fair. The authors' conclusions are commonsensical. But, as they point out, their prescription often flies in the face of what we think wealthy people should do. There are no pop stars or athletes in this book, but plenty of wall-board manufacturers--particularly ones who take cheap, infrequent vacations! Stanley and Danko mercilessly show how wealth takes sacrifice, discipline, and hard work, qualities that are positively discouraged by our high-consumption society. "You aren't what you drive," admonish the authors. Somewhere, Benjamin Franklin is smiling. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.
The Millionaire Mind by Thomas J. Stanley
Brief Synopsis:
What do you do after you've written the No. 1 bestseller The Millionaire Next Door? Survey 1,371 more millionaires and write The Millionaire Mind. Dr. Stanley's extremely timely tome is a mixture of entertaining elements. It resembles Regis Philbin's hit show (and CD-ROM game) Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, only you have to pose real-life questions, instead of quizzing about trivia. Are you a gambling, divorce-prone, conspicuously consuming "Income-Statement Affluent" Jacuzzi fool soon to be parted from his or her money, or a frugal, loyal, resole your shoes and buy your own groceries type like one of Stanley's "Balance-Sheet Affluent" millionaires? "Cheap dates," millionaires are 4.9 times likelier to play with their grandkids than shop at Brooks Brothers. "If you asked the average American what it takes to be a millionaire," he writes, "they'd probably cite a number of predictable factors: inheritance, luck, stock market investments.... Topping his list would be a high IQ, high SAT scores and gradepoint average, along with attendance at a top college." No way, says Stanley, backing it up with data he compiled with help from the University of Georgia and Harvard geodemographer Jon Robbin. Robbin may wish he'd majored in socializing at L.S.U., instead, because the numbers show the average millionaire had a lowly 2.92 GPA, SAT scores between 1100 and 1190, and teachers who told them they were mediocre students but personable people. "Discipline 101 and Tenacity 102" made them rich. Stanley got straight C's in English and writing, but he had money-minded drive. He urges you to pattern your life according to Yale professor Robert Sternberg's Successful Intelligence, because Stanley's statistics bear out Sternberg's theories on what makes minds succeed--and it ain't IQ.
Besides offering insights into millionaires' pinchpenny ways, pleasing quips ("big brain, no bucks"), and 46 statistical charts with catchy titles, Stanley's book booms with human-potential pep talk and bristles with anecdotes--for example, about a bus driver who made $3 million, a doctor (reporting that his training gave him zero people skills) who lost $1.5 million, and a loser scholar in the bottom 10 percent on six GRE tests who grew up to be Martin Luther King Jr. Read it and you'll feel like a million bucks.

I want to recommend two books which are both short and well worth the read. Trust me these books won't take more than a couple of hours to read but the lessons you will learn are worth a lifetime. Inshaa Allah, I hope you benefit....
Seeking Forgiveness
by Taqiuddin Ahmad 'Abdul-Halim Ibn Taymiyyah
Brief Synopsis:
Shaykul al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (rahimuhulAllah's) discussion covers repentance and seeking forgiveness, as ibaadaat that result from abandonment of Allah's commandments and/or doing what is forbidden. He also discusses how Allah azah wa jal informed us about the disgraceful deeds of the disbelievers before the Messenger (salal Allahu aleyhi wa salim) came to them. Then he explains asking for forgiveness as a lasting need for the servant of Allah, done with the tongue and the heart.
Patience and Gratitude
by Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah
Brief Synopsis:
Ibn Qayyim (rahimuhulAllah) discusses the definition of patience from the view of the scholars; compares Patience (sabr) and Shawkah (complaint); what opposes patience; and the ways of obtaining patience. He then touches on the different degrees of patience and the different strengths of patience, and what it entains. He then covers 5 categories of patience, and what can be considered good patience and bad patience. This is followed by examples of the patience of noble people and the ignorant ones. He goes on to give the reader ways to strengthen patience and why man cannot live life without patience. Lastly, he covers some of the difficult types of patience, patience in the Quran, the hadith, the narrations of the Sahaabah on patience, patience and loving Allah. The last third of the book covers gratitude in the Quran, graditude in the hadith, and the narrations of Sahaabah on gratitude.[/QUOTE]

About two, maybe three years ago a dear friend of mine told me to read this book that I am about to recommend to all of you. Well, I didn't pay too much attention cuz at that time.
This summer I met my friend again in one of his classes and in a conversation with some students he referred to this book, again. So I decided to put it on my list of books to read.....Brothers & Sisters.....THIS BOOK IS A MUST READ. I am not even quite done myself but I want to [prematurely] recommend it to anyone who is thinking about wealth building in the west (especially North America), anyone who wishes to become more financially responsible, and/or anyone who wants to undrestand what it takes to acquire assests or invest to have more assests. Inshaa Allah, I hope you benefit....
Rich Dad Poor Dad: What the Rich Teach Their Kids About Money--That the Poor and Middle Class Do Not!
by Robert T. Kiyosaki and Sharon L. Lechter
Brief Synopsis:
Personal-finance author and lecturer Robert Kiyosaki developed his unique economic perspective through exposure to a pair of disparate influences: his own highly educated but fiscally unstable father, and the multimillionaire eighth-grade dropout father of his closest friend. The lifelong monetary problems experienced by his "poor dad" (whose weekly paychecks, while respectable, were never quite sufficient to meet family needs) pounded home the counterpoint communicated by his "rich dad" (that "the poor and the middle class work for money," but "the rich have money work for them"). Taking that message to heart, Kiyosaki was able to retire at 47. Rich Dad, Poor Dad, written with consultant and CPA Sharon L. Lechter, lays out his the philosophy behind his relationship with money. Although Kiyosaki can take a frustratingly long time to make his points, his book nonetheless compellingly advocates for the type of "financial literacy" that's never taught in schools. Based on the principle that income-generating assets always provide healthier bottom-line results than even the best of traditional jobs, it explains how those assets might be acquired so that the jobs can eventually be shed. --Howard Rothman

The Relief From Distress
-Shaykhul Islam Ibn Taymiyyah-
Description: Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allah sanctify his soul, was asked about the saying of the Prophet (صَلَّى الله عَلَيهِ وَ سَلَّم), The invocation of my brother Yunus, “none has the right to be worshipped save You; glory be to You, far removed are You from any imperfection; I have been amongst the wrong-doers,” none who is experiencing difficulty employs it except that Allah would relieve him of his difficulty.
-What is the meaning of this du’a (prayer, supplication)? Are their any unstated conditions that have to be met when one articulates it?
-What is the connection between belief in the heart and the meaning of this supplication such that it leads to the removal of difficulty?
-Why did he explicitly confess, ‘I have been amongst the wrong-doers’ when it is known that tawhid in itself leads to the removal of difficulty?
Is it sufficient to acknowledge ones’ sin alone, or must this be accompanied by repentance and the firm resolve not to repeat that sin in the future?
-Why is it that difficulty and harm is removed only when a person relinquishes any hope, reliance and dependency upon the creation?
-How can the heart relinquish the characteristic of putting hope in the creation and depending on them, and instead put its hope in Allah, Exalted is He, and turn to Him in its entirety?
-What are the methods that would aid the heart in doing this? The author replies to these questions in the form of this book.

Four Essays on 'The Obligation of Veiling'
By the Esteemed Scholars:
Shaykh ‘Abdul-‘Azeez ibn Baz
Shaykh Muhammad ibn Saalih Al-‘Uthaymeen
Shaykh Zayd bin Haadee al-Madkhalee
and Shaykh Saaleh al-Fawzaan
Description: This is the second edition of the book "Three Essays on the Obligation of Veiling" which was published in 2003 and received with warm acceptance by the English-speaking Muslims to the point that there was a need for it to be reprinted since the original edition has run out, all praise be to Allaah.
In an effort to provide as much benefit to the readers as possible, a new treatise was added to this edition bringing four separate treatises from different authors on the subject of Hijaab and veiling compiled into one book. In addition to this, there are several appendixes with quotes from the scholars of past and present elucidating points raised in the treatises.

I want to recommend a history book on the Prophet's of Allah that I found short and very well written (in english ofcourse). It is actually part of the huge compilation of 'Al-Bidayah wan-Nihayah' by Ibn Kathir. Inshaa Allah, I hope you benefit....
Stories of the Prophets (Peace Be Upon Them)
by Imaduddin Abul-Fida Isma'il Ibn Kathir Ad-Damishqi (rahimuhulAllah)
Brief Synopsis:
This short book published by Daruusalaam Publishers is compiled from Ibn Kathir (rahimuhulAllah's) "Al-Bidaayah wan-Nihaayah" (translated as: "the beginning and the end") which is a great book on the history of Islam. I read this book because it was highly recommended by someone from this forum. Now, it is hands down my favorite Islamic book. I would encourage anyone to read this book. If you've ever wanted to think with an Islamic perspective and react accordingly, here's your chance to learn the steps to do that... I promise you won't regret it.

Do you think it would be wise to give "Don't be Sad" to a depressed agnostic?
I ordered a copy and have read a bit but can I please get a response from anyone who has read the book.

Wa aleykum salaam wa rahmatulaahi wa barakaatuh
"Don't Be Sad" might be a good book to give to someone who is depressed, I agree.
However, in my humble opinion [and because I read the book] I don't think an agnostic needs this book. Anyone who takes the view that the concept of Rabb (Allah azah wa jal) is incoherent, meaningless and irrelevant to life is in serious trouble. Therefore, I think you should first give this person a good book on Tawheed and/or Allah's Names & Attributes.
And Allah subhanahu wa ta'aalaa knows best.

Assalamualaikum, I think this description would suit an atheist. An agnostic could be anything, really.
Eg: not sure of the existence of God
: believe in the existence of God, but not in an institutionalized religion
Allahu'alam. I havent read the book, maybe you could let your friend borrow it and if he likes it, he can have it ..?

I would encourage you to pass on the book to this individual. This book is directed towards anyone facing trials and one who is overwhelmed by these tests. I do feel this book is applicable to non-Muslims because it is offering an Islamic "how to" guide on how to deal with trials in this world. This book might guide and open the heart of this person so he/she is more receptive to Islam. Truly it is with the remembrance of Allah that one’s heart finds rest. For this person, the beginning step is just the acknowledgment that Allah is the Rabb.

Islam and the Destiny of Man by Hassan Le Gai Eaton
*****
I found info on this book while researching Islamic books on Amazon. I ordered it from my library and man oh man is this an awesome book. The author is a convert and an ex-diplomat. He doesn't have any hidden agenda or any weird beliefs but logically justifies everything in Islam. It was a real long and thick read but so awesome that I took 50 pages worth of notes. It is arguably the BEST book written on Islam, for a non-Muslim intellectual read and an eman booster for the average Muslim.
It's a mix of Islamic belief and history. Rather than starting with the story of the Holy Prophet (saws), he has a few chapters about the attitudes of the non-Muslim to Islam in terms of beliefs. He has one chapter which is all about Tawheed and he explains it in a few different ways just to show how powerful it is. Then he tells the tale of Rasulullah (saws) life, the Khulafa and what happened afterward and finishes up with stuff regarding Muslim architecture and calligraphy. He has a really awesome writing style and it's not hard to see why people have converted to Islam after reading this book.
The only thing I didn't like was he quoted some hadith without reference and some stuff which I think is characteristic to an ol' fella such as himself. The other stuff that I didn't like was factual and I didn't like it because it was new to me (the Battle of the Camel, the martyrdom of Rasulullah's grandson) and that just made me sad...Alhamdulillah though this is one thing I have trouble facing--realizing that Islam is a religion of the weak and oppressed and that Muslims will always face some hardships they may never conquer, for Allah has decreed us to meet Him sooner than we like.
Here are a few exerpts:
On Qur'anic Art:
Here the Muslim faces a problem. Illumination is an art form, and forms by their very nature imprison their content in the very act of making it accessible to our senses and our intelligence. Islam refuses to confine deity in any formulation, for to do so would be to limit Reality and thereby falsify it. ‘The Muslim artist solved this problem on the one hand by using designs such as palmette (the stylized ‘little Tree’), which point outwards to what lies beyond the page, and on the other by repetitive patterns which are, as it were, cut short by the margin but which, in the mind’s eye, may be extended indefinitely in every direction, ‘ forever and ever’. In this way the human imagination is invited to supply what the graphic image can only suggest. 206
On Kibr:No ego is more inflated than the one which feeds upon religion and justifies its greed and its fury in religious terms; it can even happen that the inhibitions which restrain murderous impulses in those who live only for this world are released when the opportunity arises to murder in the name of God. Those who seek Paradise walk a tightrope over hell; the greater the prize, the greater the risk. 58 (He isn't anti-jihad as it might sound like here)
On Rasulullah (saws):
Little Morrocan poem: They sleep in the night of the grave, those women whose luminous hands wove Muhammad’s cloak. Where –long whitening—are the bones of the sheep which gave their wool for Muhammad’s cloak? Towards what stars have ascended the drops of water which rose as mist when the wool of those sheep lay drying in the sun? It was supple as smoke. When Muhammad (peace and blessings upon him) let it loose on the breeze you would have thought it a cloud billowing in the wind. It was transparent as air. And those who kissed its hem now drink from the streams which sing in Paradise, and Allah smiles upon them through all eternity. They are long gone, those women and those sheep and that cloak itself, and the world is bereft. 66 (Maroc: Terre et Ciel (Lausanne: La Guide du Livre, 1954))
Remembering Rasulullah (saws):
He made tour of Syria, and before he left the province, an event occurred which stirred the hearts of the faithful. Bilal, the first mu’ezzin of Islam, had retired there, having refused after the Prophet’s death ever again to make the public Call of Prayer. The leaders now came to him and begged him to make the Call on this very special occasion. The old African consented, and as the familiar voice rose over the multitude, still loud and clear, the people remembered so vividly the radiant time when the Prophet used to lead the prayers after Bilal’s Call that the whole assembly was moved to tears and Umar sobbed aloud. 137 (I felt like crying here too :( )
The founding of Spain:
But Marwan was otherwise occupied, fighting the Kharijites in Iraq and rebels in Syria. Soon the whole of Persia was in Abu Muslim’s hands and he advanced on Iraq. Marwan was encamped on the Great Zab, an effluent of the River Tigreis. Watching the approach of the black banners borne by riders on Bactrian camels, he described them as ‘scraps of black storm-clouds’; then the storm came down upon him, his army was destroyed and he himself fled to Egypt, where he was murdered soon afterwards. Three hundred men of the Umayyad clan died that day. One escaped. He swam the river with his younger brother, who responded to a shouted offer of amnesty by swimming back and was promptly killed. But the survivor went on, like a seed blow upon the wind.
This was Abdu’l-Rahman, one of those singular figures who almost reconcile us to the blood and turmoil of human history. Once across the river, with one faithful servant for company, he set off through Palestine and then across North Africa to seek refuge with his mother’s Berber relatives in Morocco. The journey took him five years, trudging by foot from one tribal territory to the next, never once lying down to sleep with any certainty of surviving the night, or awakening with any certainty that he would live though the day. He reached his destination, however, and soon afterwards crossed into Spain; there, with the support of a pro-Umayyad faction, he was proclaimed Amir of Andulusia in Cordova in 756. During his long reign, and under the rule of his posterity over the next three centuries, a European Islamic civilization flowered and bore fruit in the arts, in philosophy and mysticism, and in a style of life which united piety with sophistication in a unique combination. Christian Europe in the so-called Dark Ages found light there and lit its candles of learning in the great universities of Andalusia. However alien the most distant world of Islam may seem to occidentals, Muslim Spain is an integral part of European heritage. 152
On Hajj:
And when, as a pilgrim, he stands before the Ka’ba in Mecca (after circling it seven times), the centrality already prefigured by his orientation when he prayed far off is made actual. Clothed only in two piece of plain, unsewn cloth, he has left behind him the characteristics which identified him in this world, his race, his nationality, his status; he is no longer so-and-so from such-and-such a place, but simply a pilgrim.
Beneath his bare feet, like mother-of-pearl, is the pale marble of this amphitheatre at the centre of the world, and although he is commanded to lower his eyes when praying elsewhere, he is now permitted to raise them and look upon the Ka’ba, which is the earthly shadow of the Pole or Pivot around which circle the starry heavens. Although Paradise may still seem far distant, he has already come home. 242

Knowledge Mandates Action
By Imaam Abu Bakr Ahmad bin 'Alee Al-Khateeb Al-Baghdaadee
With Verification and Notes by Imaam Muhammad Naasir-ud-Deen Al-Albaanee
Publisher: Al-Ibaanah
This gem of a book is filled with beautiful admonitions, but subhaanAllah has the profound ability to scare you for it shows you that the more you know, the more you are accountable for. So why do you persist in your search for ‘ilm if you have not acted upon what you already know? The journey for knowledge is a virtuous one, but in your journey make sure that as a result of the ‘ilm you gain you also increase yourself in ‘amal .… which makes the end of the treatise so befitting, a beautiful statement on the danger of procrastination, as if he [Al-Khateeb Al-Baghdaadee] is indirectly asking you a question – for you know of the merit of knowledge, and you know what is upon you of actions – so why the delay?
About the Book:
This is the second book in the "Classical Knowledge Series", which is a collection of selected scholarly works from the past that deal with the subject of religious knowledge. The first book in this blessed series was “The Book of Knowledge” written by Imaam Abu Khaithamah Zuhayr bin Harb An-Nasaa’ee (Died 234H), may Allaah have mercy on him.
Since that book served as an introduction to knowledge, its virtues, merits and manners, it seemed proper that the second book be dedicated to the next level of knowledge, which is its result and outcome, and that is righteous deeds. And what better work to present on this subject than the classic and well-known treatise of the distinguished Imaam, Al-Khateeb Al-Baghdaadee, “Iqtidaa-ul-‘Ilm al-‘Amal” (Knowledge Mandates Action).
In this treatise, the author gathers over 200 narrations from the Prophet, his Companions and the pious predecessors on the virtue and obligation of acting upon knowledge. Thus the work serves as an inspiration and encouragement to the readers, guiding them to transfer whatever knowledge they gain of Islaam into good deeds and righteous actions. You will find this book filled with beautiful admonitions and golden words of advice from our righteous predecessors, inciting us to acquire knowledge and to then put it into practice by way of acts of worship.
Important Note:
This book contains the Arabic text for all of its narrations including the vowelization of all letters so as to make it an easy to study reference-guide. It is the perfect book for people to study in gatherings and circles or for one to just read on his own and encourage himself to act upon his knowledge. May Allaah accept this effort.
About the Author:
Al-Khateeb Al-Baghdaadee was one of the Imaams of Ahlus-Sunnah who is reknowned and reputed for his high position in the subject of Hadeeth. He has authored many books about the etiquettes, manners and guidance on seeking knowledge and Hadeeth, this particular book being one of them.

The Value of Time
by
Shaykh Abd Al-Fattah Abu Ghuddah
“The Value of Time is a collection of amazing sayings, anecdotes, and wonderful stories of the scholars of the Muslim Ummah, which indicate the importance they attached to time. It is abook that will inspire the youth and the old alike to spend their time wisely, constructively and avoid wasting time.
The stories narrated, unimaginable as they may be, are not fables nor fairy tables, but are all authentic events that have been well documented and narrated by scholars themselves. The author, Shaykh ‘Abd al-Fattah Abu Ghuddah, was one of the prominent scholars of the 20th century and a veteran leader of the Islamic Movement in Syria.”
I love this book because it’s powerful language [“Time is like a sword, if you do not slay it, it slays you.] and authentic information keeps me away from wasting time.

The stories of the Prophet's covered in this book have all been supported by Quranic verses and Ahadith. Whenever necessary, other sources of history are used to support a point or refute a point. Ibn Kathir (rahimuhulAllah) reproduces and uses the views and interpretations of the companions and some of the great scholars of Islamic history to relate to us the stories of the Prophets. To explain the history, this book succintly illustrates the views and interpretations of people like Umar Ibn Khataab (radiyal Allahu anhu), Ibn Abbas (radiyal Allah anhu), Abu Hurayrah (radiyal Allah anhu), Abdullah Ibn Umar (radiyal Allah anhu), Anas ibn Malik (radiyal Allah anhu), Ibn Mas'ud (radiyal Allah anhu), Ubai Ibn Ka'b (radiyal Allah anhu), Qadi Shuraih, Ibn Abu Hatim, Ibn Jarir, Sa'id Ibn Jubair, Thauri, Dahhak, Al Hasan Al Basri, Mujaahid, Ar-Rabi', Ibn Ishaq, Ibn Hibban, Muhammad Ibn Sirin, Abul-'Aliyah, Qatadah, Imam Ahmad, Imam Malik, and Imam Shafi'ee to name a few. The Book of Knowledge
By Imaam Abu Khaithama Zuhyar bin Harb An-Nasaa'ee (Died 243H)
With Verification and Notes by Imaam Al-Albaanee
About the Book:
This is the first book in the "Classical Knowledge Series" - a collection of selected scholarly works from the past that deal with the subject of religious knowledge. This particular book is a translation of the famous classical work "Kitaab-ul-'Ilm", a collection of narrations about the virtues, merits, manners, and etiquettes of knowledge, written by Imaam Abu Khaithama An-Nasaa'ee (Died 234H). In this initial installment, the reader will have a glimpse into the statements and actions of our pious predecessors with regard to seeking, spreading and implementing knowledge. There are over 160 narrations in total, including statements of the Prophet, his Companions, the Taabi'een and the suceeding early generations. In addition to this, the great scholar of Hadeeth of recent times, Imaam Muhammad Naasir-ud-Deen Al-Albaanee, has reviewed the treatise and verified the narrations contained within it, distinguishing the authentic from the weak. So this treatise is of great benefit and deserving of being read and studied by every Muslim, whether in gatherings or individually.

How To Achieve Sincerity
Shaykh Husayn Al Awaayishah
About this Book:
People, with all their differences, with all their varied likes and dislikes, perform deeds in the hope that these deeds will bring happiness. Unfortunately, there are few people who succeed and many who fail in their pursuit of short term gains (which results in long term losses). How can they walk so crookedly when the path is so straight?
Performing deeds with sincerity for Allah (Ikhlas) is the only way the heart receives life, happiness and stability. The more a person performs deeds without sincerity, the more miserable and afflicted he becomes.
The Prophets, the companions of the prophets, they succeeded and saved themselves in this world, and in the Hereafter, they receive a reward which no-one can imagine. This book reminds and encourages us to constantly renew our intentions and remain sincere in all our deeds in order for us to receive that which we long for - success in this life and in the hereafter.
Chapters include:
What is required for a deed to be accepted?
Seeking Allah's Assistance Through Sincerity
Yusuf (as) and his Sincere Deeds
Keeping Company of the Sincere Ones
The Virtues of Sincere Actions
The Harms of Showing Off and Arrogance
How to Treat the Disease of Showing Off
The Punishment of Showing Off

The Farewell Advice of the Prophet (salallahu alaihi wa sallam)
Author: Shaikh Husayn al-Awayishah
Publisher: Al-Hidaayah (01-Oct-02)
Pages: 52
Description
In recent times, many sincere Muslims have looked to ascertain the situation of our Nation, and what they s aw were the effects of the Devil (Shaytaan), the blackness of wicked deeds, and the blood of many wounds. They s aw discord, disagreement, disunity, confusion, and anxiety. They perceived the evil result of not ruling according to Allaah’s Book – in the home, the streets, and the marketplace. They s aw these results in schools, universities, books, newspapers, and the media; in fact, they even witnessed them in the best of places, mosques, where innovation now flourish. And they have also seen the effects of what evil among the ranks of callers to Islam and students of knowledge.
Those who hasten to do good deeds are in competition to find a cure for our Nation and its woes. The medicines, rather the panaceas that are proffered are many, yet the situation remains as it is – except in certain quarters, scattered efforts are made, but not enough to effect an overall change.
If we truly want a universal cure to our woes, we must study the advice and farewell guidance given by the Prophet http://www.salafibookstore.com/sbs/images/saws.gif to his Companions and to the his Nation….. [Taken from the Introduction]

Its Bearing on Manners and Purification of the Soul
Shaykh Husayn Al Awaayishah

Being one of the shorter chapters of the Qur'an and one that many Muslims young and old have committed to memory, this brief discourse highlights some of the important points of benefit that can be derived from the Words of Allah. The author brings relevant sayings of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and quotes from some of the famous scholars of exegesis of the Qur'an in order to clarify their meanings and to help the reader realise the true import of these verses in their lives.
"As a study of Surah al-Mutaffifin and its profound wisdoms and lessons, this book is intended as a reminder to the reader, a reminder about Allah and the Last Day. Heroes of Islam
Prof. Mahmoud Esma'il Sieny
King Saud University
Riyadh, KSA
Muslims have no need to look for fictitious or mythical heroes, because their history is abundant with heroes of real flesh and blood, whose acts were heroic because of their faith, and a consequence of their attitude to life and the world. For all the heroes of Islam share two very special traits: full conviction and dedication to their pristine faith and constant attempt to seek the Pleasure of their Creator, Allah, alone, regardless of the circumstances and times they live in. For a Muslim hero, be he a military genius, a scholar teacher, or a devout common person, knows that the transient life in this world is a means to the eternal life in the Hereafter, and that ephemeral pains and pleasures are nothing compared to the everlasting pains and pleasures of Hell and Heaven. To this hero, the key to the whole thing is Divine Pleasure. Through it alone can a person enjoy peace and tranquility in this world and attain real happiness in the life Hereafter.
The Prophet (salla-Liaahu 'alayhi wa-sallam) is reported to have said: "Strange is the case of the believer. Everything turns to his advantage only. If adversity befalls him he patiently accepts it, and is rewarded for it. If prosperity happens to him he shows gratitude to his Lord (in word and action), and is rewarded for it." So a hero of Islam faces both prosperity and adversity with the right attitude and action. His goal is not worldly pleasures and gains, but rather the Pleasure of Allah.

Assalamu alaikum. Forgive me brothers and sisters if I am repeating any of the books that you might have mentioned before but I confess that I did not read all the posts in this thread. However even if they have been already recommended it is worth repeating them again.
(Alla the books I will mention are also translated in English al-hamdulilah)
First of all the Qur'an
Then "The three fundamental principles" by sheikh ul-Islam Muhamed ibn Abdul-Wahab and it's explanation by sheikh Abdur-Rahman ibn Muhammed ibn Qasim and Muhamed ibn Salih el-Uthaymeen. Then:
Kitab et-Tawhid again from Abdul-Wahab and it's explanation Fat'h el Majeed with the footnotes and explanations of sheikh Ibn Bazz. There is also the version without the comments of Ibn Bazz. Then:
Kashf esh-shubuhat fi tawhid from Abdul-Wahab and you will find it in english translated by Ammar Yasir Qadhi as A critical study of shirk. Then:
Masail ul jahiliyah from Abdul-Wahab and explained by sheikh Salih el-Fawzan as "An explanation of the aspects of the days of ignorance". then:
El-Aqidatil- wasatiyah of sheikh ul Islam Ibn Taymiyah and it's explanation from sheikh Muhammed Khalil Harras and also from sheikh Muhamed ibn Salih el-Uthaymeen. Then:

El-Aqidatil-tahawiyah by Tahawi and it's explanation from Ibn Ebi'l-Izz el-hanafi and also from sheikh Ibn Bazz and Salih el-Fawzan. then:
The sufficancy in creed of Imam ibn Qudamah el-Maqdisi and it's explanation from sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen. Then:
Foundations of the sunnah of Imam Ahmed. then any such books like that Imam Barbahari and others. then:
Exemplary foundations concerning the Beautyful Names and Attributes of Allah of sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen. then:
The names and attributes of Allah of sheikh Sulayman el-Ashqar. then
Kitab ul-iman of Ibn Taymiyah. then any books from Ibn Taymiyah and Ibn Kajjim. Also books in hadith begining with Sahih el-Bukhari and Muslim and so on.
These are but a few books mentioned and are all in english al-hamdulilah and whoever has read them will agree with me that until you have read and digested them, you really do not know anything about our deen except general stuff. These books will help a lot. An Explanation of the Beautiful & Perfect Names of Allah
Shaykh Nasir As-Sa'di
From the most noble and lofty stations of cognisance is to know the Lord, the Glorious, through His beauty. This is the knowledge possessed by the elite of this creation. All of them know Him through an Attribute from amongst His Attributes but those amongst them who have the most complete cognisance are those who know Him through His perfection, magnificence and beauty.

Heroes of Islam
Prof. Mahmoud Esma'il Sieny
King Saud University
Riyadh, KSA
This book is perfect for the younger ones inshaaAllah; the stories are short and comprehensive and shall keep their attention. Moreover, the manner in which it is written, that is, the language which is used, also seems to be geared to the youth. It's wonderful because it also redefines what a 'hero' is, and the compilation of many stories of the Salaf gives them a plethora of honorable characteristics and accounts to attribute this word to. Bi'idnillah ta'ala it may distinguish the 'heroes' as role models as well, partiularly in the child's eyes who may single out one particular story and try to emulate their respective characteristics. Furthermore, those named after prominent figures of the Salaf may read up on their namesakes.

Assalam alaikum
On the day of Eid, I had alot of things planned out to accomplish and alhamdulilah I got some of them done but I found myself spending my Eid in an Islamic bookstore.
As I searched through the books, I tried to recall some of the books that people recommended on this thread.
I found books like, Dont Be Sad and Men Around the Messenger and many more, but my desire lies in reading the books of the early scholars.
So I came across a book called, "Mukhtasar Zad Al-Ma'ad" (Provisions for the Hereafter) by Imam Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah and flipped through the pages and it seemed nice. Until I took it home and started to read it and subhanAllah, I fell in love with the pages and the knowledge it preserved.
I have this strong urge to jump for one chapter to another but this book wont allow me cause its too good.
I dont know if this book has been recommended in the past but in case it hasn't, as they say on the streets, "You need to get at that book, if you know what I mean http://forums.almaghrib.org/images/icons/icon7.gif"
May Allah have mercy on the soul of Ibn Qayyim and Imam Muhammad Ibn Abdul Wahhab who summarized the book.

This book is about the life stories of the Mothers of the Believers and 16 other Sahabyat who had been given the good news of the paradise in this world by Prophet Muhammad (S). Besides the Mothers of the believers, the compiler of the book has included the description of those sixteen women who had been given the good News of the Paradise in this world by the Prophet Muhammad (S). Provisions for the Hereafter (Zaad Al-Ma'ad)
http://www.dar-us-salam.com/images/tbn/176-ProvisionsHereafter.jpg
by Ibn Al-Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah. Allah has sent the Messenger (S) with guidance and the Religion of Truth. Strict adherence to the guidance of His Prophet (S) is required from the followers of Islam. The scholars of the Islamic community have attached great importance to it and produced texts regarding the Acts of Worship, Dealings and Habits in the light of the Divine guidance. This book is one of the most famous works written on this subject. This book is one of the important resources of knowledge for those who seek to know the Seerah of their Prophet (PBUH) as well as, the Fiqh learned from it. This is a book that is unique in that it explains the Sunnah through the Seerah and the Seerah through the Sunnah

Book of the End: Great Trials & Tribulations
ISBN: 9960971503
Author: Al-Hafiz Ibn Katheer Dimashqi; Faisal Shafiq (translator)
Publisher: Darussalam Publishers & Distributors (February 2006)
Pages: 749 Binding: Hardcover
Description from the publisher:
Like everything, the present universe will also come to an end, and it is a part of our faith to believe in the Last Day. The signs of the Day of Judgment have been foretold by our Prophet (S). Ibn Kathir has collected all the prophesies of the Prophet (S) in his book Al-Bidaayah wan-Nihaayah.
In this volume, we have presented from them the signs of the Hour and the events that are yet to take place, although mentioning very few examples of those prophesies that have already been realized.
Introduction O Allah, send prayers and salutations on Muhammad, his family, and his Companions. This is the Book of The End: Great Trials and Tribulations. It deals with what the Prophet informed us about regarding the signs of the Hour and the great events that are to take place before the Day of Judgment, all of which we must have faith in, because the Prophet spoke not from desire, but from revelation.
Abu Moosa Al-Ash'aree related that the Messenger of Allah said, "This nation of mine is one upon which there is mercy; there is no punishment upon it in the Hereafter; its punishment is in this world - with trials, earthquakes, and killings."
Hitherto in our discussion on the unseen past, we covered in detail events that pertain to the beginning of the world, the stories of the prophets, and the history of peoples until our era. Then we discussed the biography of the Prophet (S) mentioning his characteristics and the proofs of his prophet hood. Then we covered some events that the Prophet prophesized about and that have already taken place before our century. When we gave an account of events that took place after the Prophet's death, we pointed out those occurrences about which a Hadeeth gave information. Since we already mentioned those prophesies that have already become realized and since it would be too long to repeat them all here, we will suffice by mentioning only a few examples, after which we will return to the main theme of this work. And we seek help from Allah.

Pages: 255 Binding: Paperback
Description from the publisher:
Benefits of belief in the resurrection and the afterlife
Rational and scientific arguments
The spirit
<li> Theological and Qur’anic arguments
Scientific discoveries continue to stagger our imagination. The miracles we see every day are so common that they have become ‘‘normal’’. But what purpose does creation serve? Does everything exist for a while and then disappear into nothingness, or is it transformed into something else? Where are we headed, and what will happen to us when we get there? Basing himself on Said Nursi’s Risale-i Nur, Ali Ünal presents a scientific and logical argument for the validity of one of religion’s main elements of faith: belief in the resurrection and the afterlife.

How to Approach & Understand the Qur'an
ISBN: 1891540068
Author: Jamaal al-Din M. Zarabozo
Publisher: Al-Basheer Publications
Pages: 291 Binding: Paperback
Description from the publisher:
From the book's back cover: "In this work, the author has attempted to bridge the gap between Muslims and the Quran. The author writes about what the Quran is and what is a Muslim's responsibility toward it. He also studies the effect that the Quran had upon the first generation of Muslims and attempts to answer why the Quran does not seem to have the same miraculous effect today. The book discusses how many Muslims currently approach the Quran. Then it goes on to discuss how the Quran should be approached and the main teachings of the Quran. The work also offers a lengthy discussion of the proper sources of tafseer or Quranic commentary. One reviewer wrote of this work, "It will be useful reading for all Muslims, new converts and those who have been practicing for years. As I was reading, I found passages that built such a powerful crescendo of argumentation and commentary, that I was deeply touched." Published in 1999.

The Three Abandoned Prayers: Salaat-ul-Istikhaarah & Its Rulings, Salaat-ut-Taubah & Its Conditions, Salaat-ut-Tasbeeh & Its Establishment
ISBN: none
Author: Shaykh Adnaan Aali Uroor
Publisher: Harraf & Harraf (2004, 1425 AH)
Pages: 141 Binding: Paperback
Description from the publisher:
An explanation of three great blessed prayers, which have been abandoned by the Muslims, except for those whom Allah has shown mercy towards. As for the first, then it is Salaat-ul-Istikhaarah (the prayer for seeking guidance) in which the servant seeks guidance from his lord and seeks the counsel of his creator and by it the servant actualizes his servitude to Allah - the most High, and it is built upon the truthfulness of his certainty and his assurance in his Lord. So, what a spiritually immense prayer it is, endowing the Muslim with tranquility and restfulness, increasing his emaan (faith) with emaan, by the penetrating power of Allah, and His powerful will, not to speak of it bestowing constancy, satisfaction, and submission to the Decree of Al-Jabbar (the compeller). So how great a prayer it is, and how splendid a worship it is.

You think it would be better if I just started a new thread with "rules"?
Or maybe a thread for each subject? Fiqh, Aqeedah, Women, Politics? something like that?
For me it is more beneficial to hear the actual reader's comments than the "official internet" review, etc....

Maybe you can start a new general Recommending Books thread with the rules inshaAllah, and we can proceed to give the book summaries and reviews in that particular thread. Because while creating a thread for each subject may be beneficial, some books are not easily classified, or will overlap in their subjects (so this may be confusing, and also, I imagine there would be many subjects).
So in this new thread inshaAllah, all the book recommendations would fit that criteria (ie. book summary and reflection) and this would inshaAllah make it easier for those who wish to read the books, and get an idea on what it's about and how it has benefitted the reader. And so inshaAllah this may mean taking some books mentioned in this thread and reposting them in the other thread - but now, with a summary, and a reflection. Organized, systematic, and helpful - inshaAllah.
And Allaah knows best.
