Question Question directed to Sheikh

Asalamu-alykum

Concerning the issue of a muslim who doesn't pray due to reasons other than disbelief, whose opinion is stronger, Imam Ahmad's or the Majority? I would appreciate it if you can include proof on why one opinion is stronger than the other.

Jazakallah

Re: Question directed to Shakih

Assalamu 'alaikum,

I am not sure if the Shaikh will answer this as he discussed this specifically in class. If prayer is left for other reasons besides disbelief, the majority of scholars say the person is still Muslim while Imaam Ahmed calls him a Kaafir.

To summarize, the majority of scholars use the hadeeth which indicates that the one who doesn't pray, it is up to Allah to punish him or forgive him. This is an authentic hadeeth and indicates that since the choice is to Allah, he is not definitely Kaafir.

Imam Ahmed uses the hadeeth that says: "Between a man and Kufr and Shirk is his leaving of the prayer."

The Shaikh seemed to indicate that Imam Ahmed's opinion was stronger and Allah knows best. All of the evidences for this issue are in the TPA binder.

Wallahu 'Alem
