As salaamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh,

Performing Voluntary Prayers at Home.

Regarding the excellence of praying at home, The Prophet(peace and blessings be upon him) said:

Verily, the best prayer of a person is in his house,except for the obligatory prayer.

Saheeh Bukhari,the book of al-adhaan hadeeth 731. Muslim, the book of the prayer of the traveller and its shortening hadeeth 781.

Also from the hadith where the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The voluntary of a man(in a place) where no person can see him is equal to twenty-five times his prayer where people can see him.

Musnad Aboo Ya'laa, hadeeth no 3821
shaykh al-albani graded this narration authentic.

In another hadith, the Prophet(peace and blessings be upon him) said:

The superiority of the prayer of a man in his house over his prayer(in a place)so that the people can see him,is like the superiority of the obligatory over the voluntary.

saheeh at targheeb wa at tarheeb,The book of desiring to pray the voluntary prayers in the house,hadeeth 438. shaykh al-albani graded this narration as hasan.

This sunnah is repeated many times during the Day and Night. It includes prayers like sunnah-ar rawaatib,salaah ad-duhaa and al witr .

Implementing these voluntary prayers in the house is a means to :

• Perfecting tranquility and sincerity.
• Distance oneself from showing off.
• Have mercy descend on the house.
• cause the shaytan to leave.
• multiply the reward of voluntary prayers,just as the reward of obligatory prayer is multiplied by performing it in the masjid.

May Allah (The Perfect) grant us the tawfiq to understand His deen and worship Him in a manner that is pleasing to him and only for His sake.
