I had a couple of questions

1. We reviewed the questions yesterday and answered most of them but we didn't get a chance to cover the first few scholars. So I thought we could discuss it over here.
I am having difficulty answering the following question:

About Umar Ibn AbdilAzeez
Was he appointed as khalifa or chosen by people?
Can someone explain this? I know he was a khalifa but chosen by people? Not sure

2. This question is about the exam. Is the exam open book?
