Gems for TPA in Columbus
1. Knowledge of the deen is in a league of its own such that only those loved by Allah can grasp it fully.
2. Respect of time includes being punctual and not taking other people's time even by one second. 3. Focus on taking the best from people instead of focusing on their faults 4. Knowledge of the deen is getting scarce so we should grab any opportunity that presents itself in seeking it. 5. Differences are always going to occur, it's how we handle it that matters. 6. We should learn manners before learning the knowledge 7. It's amazing how the issues that scholars agree on are more than what they have differences on, yet we focus more on the differences. 8. The things is Islam may seem primitive and simplified for example determining Ramadhan by looking at the new moon instead of employing astonomical calculations to determine the start of the month. Yet the beuaty and wisdom lies is the simplicity, for it is applicable in all times. We don't go around carrying our scientic tools and being given such a simple way of determing such things makes Islam an easy deen to practice. |

9. Look at how our deen provide for the welfare of every creature. Saying bismillah itself can feed our fellow Muslim jinns and protect them from us. (When I got home and told my kids about this and they were so enraptured
)10. Islam takes care of us by teaching us manners in every aspect including relieving ourselves. Another one of those that differentiates us from the non muslims. 11. Everything in Islam puts us in a spotlight that features us with distinct characteristics from the non Muslims. 12. Even in relieving ourselves, we are taught not to harm others (such as making sure to flush) 13. Compassion and kindness are very prominent characteristics in Islam and this is shown by how we take into consideration our fellow jinns and animals. (not to defecate or urinate in holes, use bones for tools to clean ourselves with) 14. Modesty is also another significant feature of Islam and highly separates us from crudeness in manners 15. Islam proves to be an easy religion because one of the principles of usool al fiqh is that if there are two choices, the easier one would be chosen first. |

16. The reason why we get rewarded for leaving a makrooh action-- is because we are following a command from the Prophet, sall Allahu 'alaihi wa sallam, in which he said "دع ما يريبك إلى ما لا يريبك" [Leave that which makes you doubt for that which does not make you doubt]. "Da`/Leave" is a command verb, and we are awarded for following the commands of Allah and His Prophet, sall Allahu 'alayhi wa sallam. So we are awarded for leaving the makrooh, doubtful actions.

I can't get over this one...
17. You can learn much from three - from a knowledgeable person with good manners, you learn both the knowledge and good manners. From a person with little knowledge but good manners, you still can learn good manners. And from a person with neither knowledge nor good manners, there is still benefit, because you can learn how not to act, which is sometimes the most important of the three. |

18. Much of the travesty that we're experiencing amongst the ranks of the students of knowledge and scholars is the result of these individuals abandoning the knowledge of manners and good behavior for other forms of knowledge. This is not something we find amongst the sahaabah, the tabi`een, nor the tabi-tabi`een - to them, manners and behaviors were amongst the foremost of knowledge and consideration. Take the example of Al-Hasan wal Husayn teaching the old man how to do wudoo'. And look at the examples today of people that try to teach the people with harshness before kindness and respect.

19. How amazing is it that each of the issues we've studied had four, five, six, and seven or more different opinions, each with their own proofs. The only way out of confusion in such situations is getting knowledge of this deen for yourself, so you are armed with the tools to decipher the strong proofs from the weak ones.

20. That Bedouins didn't drag Port-O-Potties around with them wherever they went, they were used to urinating off to the side of wherever they were because of they're nomadic lifestyle. This is a GEM becuase it shows how you can use the Usool of Fiqh to extract things from a text that aren't necessarily related to Fiqh, like history.

21. One is rewarded for the `azeemah just as one is rewarded for its implementation. If I resolve to do something, I get rewarded for that resolve even if I don't end up doing the intended action.
