M for Majd

As-salaamu 'alaikum wa rahmatullah

I posted a similar thread in another Qabeelah's section - I wanted to know about your website. Mashaa'Allah it's really good and very sophisticated. I'm not an al-maghrib student, but wanted to know what program you used to design your website? I will be using it in the field of Da'wah, so your help will Inshaa'Allaah have on-going reward

JazakumAllahu khairn
Wasalaamu 'alaikum wa rahmatullah
Ps. Any help/tips will also be welcome!

Jazakallahu khairn for that. I'll be getting photoshop soon, and alhamdulillah can use that - but how is dreamweaver? Difficult to learn?

Dreamweaver is said to be the "dream come true" for webdesigners because it integrates the sophistication of some HTML codes, or CSS, etc with the (almost) WYSIWYG format, without dumping a whole lot of garbage into the source like some programs do *cough*frontpage*cough*

I don't know how easy it is to learn by oneself, as I was taught it by an instructor - and though it didn't seem (to me) that it had intuitive features, if you follow along with a tutorial online (just do a search on dreamweaver tutorials) it should help you out. Of course its going to be easier to learn if you're already familar with website designing or other Macromedia programs, such as director, etc (because the interface is mainly the same for those types of programs).

Overall, its a good investment. InshaAllah you enjoy it!

SubhanAllah, in terms of organizing the website, another idea, which I personally like to use because I think its fun, hands on, and uber cool, is posting note cards on the wall.

I find some free wall space to designate for a specific website, and start off with Home, and then have it branch out.

EXAMPLE:

H O M E
____________________________|_____________________ _______
Program. ...................................|.............. ................. .Contact Us
|
Registration

So each of those would be a card, and under it would be sub categories, etc etc, with a description of the purpose of the page, and what you want to include on there (summary of the graphics, text, etc), and keep going lower.... Color coding the cards helps too.

The reason I find this way useful is because you can move the categories around easily, organize your thoughts, and see the entire set up of the site with descriptions all at once. I find this idea also helps when someone else is working with you (who doesn't design websites) in the planning and organizing...

Just a thought...

May Allah SWT make your endeavor easier. Ameen.

Re: M for Majd

wow, thats great info. BarakAllahu feekum - I need that!

Ok, I'm gonna go for it, alhamdulillah I found both Photoshop and Dreamweaver and so will get to work on it asap.
Yeah, I had plans all down on paper and then it was made into a temporary site - but I want to re-design the site using a sophisticated program other than frontpage.

So yeah, your information really helped, jazakakumAllahu khairn once again
And may Allaah bless you two and your Qabeelah
