Tafseer - A Source of Sharee'ah?
Assalamu Alaykum wa Rahmatullahee wa Barakatu
Is Tafseer considered to be a Islamic source of Sharee'ah from where I can deduce Islamic Law? Jazzakallah Khair Salam

Re: Tafseer - A Source of Sharee'ah?
It depends on the nature of the Tafseer bite.
In general, yes, authentic tafseer is a 'source' of Sharia'ah, but depending on what is that tafseer, the level of bindingness will fluctuate. For example, if the tafseer is an authentic hadith, then total source. For sure. If the tafseer is opinion of scholars, then it's a 'source', but it's not necessarily the final verdict. If it's just a scholar reflecting on the verses to the effect of 'what i think this verse is saying is such and such ...' then that has less binding effect unless supported by authentic proof. and so on. wAllahu 'alam. |
