Re: Regret vs. Guilt
This is statement from Macbeth (of all things, I know) I think can sum it up
"What's done is done, and what's done cannot be undone"
"The what's done is done", shows guilt. Admitting to what was committed. And fully accepting what you have done, no if, ands or buts. The second part "what's done cannot be undone" shows regret. It shows remorse for what was done. It shows a wish to change things, but realizes it ultimately can't be taken back and the sorrow that comes with the realization of that, so much so he says it to himself, when no one is around. That is regret.
