As-salamu alaykum,
I guess you know me already by the coming class "The Code Evolved". Yes that's right. Yaser Birjas. My name is Yaser Birjas, of the Holy Land of Palestine origin, born in Kuwait (I'm not gonna tell you when, so don't even ask). I graduated from Madinah University "Shari'ah" that is College of Fiqh and Usul 1996, and Alhamdulillah it was a good experience. I had the honor to interact with some highly respected Scholars over there in Madinah and other cities, like Sheikh Ash-shanqitee and Sheikh Al-Uthaimeen rahimahullah. After graduation I went to work in Basnia for Da'wah and relief programs after the war was over in 1997, then came here to the US. Currently I'm the Imam of the Islamic center of El Paso 'thats in Texas guys', and hopefully we'll get to interact more with each other through this forum and through almaghrib insha'Allah. |

Re: Do you know who Yaser Birjas is?
Assalamu alaikum,
Shaykh Yasir, I was wondering if you would be generous enough to share with us some stories about the Shuyookh with whom you some time in Saudi Arabia. Was there any of them whose company you treasured more than others? Anyone whose talks pierced your heart more than the others? I know a brother from KFUPM who used to tell me that there is a shaykh whose khutbahs he would attend, and as soon as the shaykh began talking, the hair on his neck would begin to rise as he listened! That even the way that this shaykh would say "Innal hamdu lillah, nahmuduhu wa nasta'eenuhu ..." was a full-fledged khutbah within itself! Subhan Allah. Do you have any memories or stories like that? Jazak Allahu khairan |

Re: Do you know who Yaser Birjas is?
Ahlan bik Abu Hamza, it was a spicy dinner the one we had that night. (at least for me).
one of the exraordinary shuyookh I lived with was our dear beloved father sheikh Al-Uthaymeen. He indeed treated his students like his own children. What i learned from him in few months especially in terms of Ahlaq and practice far more than what I learned in 4 years in the University. Living with a sheikh is not like living with his bio and sira. |

Wa `alaykum assalaam wa Rahmat Allaahi wa Barakatuhu
May Allaah (SWT) bring us much benefit from you and bring you much benefit from us. Ameen! It is really and truly an honor that Allaah (SWT) has provided for us avenues to seek knowledge of His (SWT) deen through the brothers (and sisters) such as yourself, Br. Muhammad, and all the others that have chosen the path of knowledge. May Allaah (SWT) reward each and every one of you for every shred of knowledge that has been carried on. Ameen! As I am writing my paper for my AOU class, it makes me think of how the non-Muslims "idolize" those whom they love because of their success in this dunyah, whereas the Muslims seek to follow those people that follow the Sunnah as close as possible. May Allaah (SWT) increase us in examples and roles models of those who love and implement the Qur'aan and Sunnah! Ameen! It will only be not soon enough if and when I get a chance to meet you! Wa salaamu`alaykum |

With regards to knowledge, I also cringed whenever someone would said, "Well, I don't have to be an imaam..." or "shaykh" or "`alim" and so on...implying, basically, that knowledge isn't for everyone. After listening to too many lectures about the fitan that will overcome the world as the Day of Judgment approaches, it is only with knowledge that we can "arm" ourselves and know how to avoid going astray. Too many comparisons exist describing the status of the people of knowledge and knowledge in general throughout the Qur'aan and Sunnah. I looked up knowledge in the Qur'aan, and came across this ayaah in Surat Faatir: And of men and AdDawab (moving living creatures, beasts, etc.), and cattle, in like manner of various colours. It is only those who have knowledge among His slaves that fear Allah. Verily, Allah is AllÂMighty, OftForgiving.May Allaah (SWT) make us amongst those that have knowledge and fear Him (SWT). Ameen! Jazaak Allaahu Khayr! |
