Sizzler Graphics Competition: Seerah - The Shepherd's Path

Inshaa' Allah, we are going to kick off another official Sizzler Graphics competition. Deadline will be, inshaa' Allah, Feb. 22nd.

Last time, 21 wonderful designers signed up for the Collector's Edition Sizzler Showdown. Only 9 made it to the final round.

Inshaa' Allah, if there are others who have got what it takes to compete with the big boys (and girls), those that that would like to officially compete in this competition and join the AlMaghrib Sizzler comp. Hall of Fame, email: Ameer.Durbah @ almaghrib . org

In order to take part in this competition, you must "JOIN" the official group of those competing. Email: Ameer.Durbah @ AlMaghrib.org

Feb 22nd is the deadline. Here are the main rules, the rest you will get if you are accepted into the competition:

Quote:

a. On Feb 22nd, you are only allowed to submit 1 poster each (before then you can use your posse to sift through your designs). The winner will be decided between the posters (maybe through an online poll)

b.
Call on your own resources, your own editor(s) to move you forward in the direction you want to take your poster.

c.
Don't do cliche stuff. No bricks, no masjids, no books, no pens. Pft! I'm all about crazy amazing design that makes a person go WOW and makes them look at the design over and over again.

d.
I'd rather you all not talk to each other about what you are designing. I'd rather that you stay creative in your own ways, rather then influencing one another towards the same design.
If you are a graphic design youngin and wish to launch your career, an official AlMaghrib poster in your portfolio can do wonders, inshaa' Allah.

Remember, only those who are officially in the competition will be considered. The only way to get in is to email: Ameer.Durbah @ AlMaghrib.org inshaa' Allah.

When you e-mail Ameer.Durbah @ almaghrib.org to register, please include your full name, your forum name and your Qabeelah. If you do not have a Qabeelah, include your city and state (and country, if not USA).

You receive the full rules and details ONLY when you e-mail Ameer.Durbah @ almaghrib.org to register to join the Sizzler Showdown Competition. And remember to bring your A GAME .... "anything else would be uncivilized"

Now get crackin'

I do not know on what bases these restriction where put, or who is the one that originated them.
But i don't think that certain graphic elements should be restricted if they serve the purpose of the design.
I know that some of those elements have been used and abused (alot of times in a low quality manner).
But that doesn't mean if someone can use them professionally, they couldn't do so.

The restrictions set actually force us to look elsewhwere for fresh ideas. When something is over done it does not attract attention. You are welcome to beat the cliche and represent it in a new way.

Was I not right br. Noor? Ustadh, I knew you would! Subhan Allah. Raising the bar is a good thing. I saw the Tafseer Juz Amma poster you did. Go completely wild mashallah.

ANNOUNCEMENT: I am not joining in on this one but my spirit is there for sure! And it is not because I am scared fo you Ustadh Alshareef! It is because I am still stuck with MS Paint for a canvas.

May the best design win!

speaking of canvas, it would be cool to see an actual painting (or any non-digital media such as drawing, sculpture, etc.) scanned/photographed to be used as a poster...

wa alaykum as salam brother,
The 'restriction' is more of a guideline, not a hard-fast rule. I originated it. When I think of a design for a poster, the first thing that comes to my is almost always the cliche. Great designs are those that make you come back again and again to say, 'wow, that was awesome. I can't stop looking at it.' and that's what we aspire to, that's our standard.

If you can pull that off with a pen and book, it may look good, but it doesn't really 'define' the seminar. A heart candle for example defined our Fiqh of Love seminar. A castle defined our Conquest seminar. Intriquing images that a person really has to think about.

But if you use any image and it looks good, it'll go up for voting and will be accepted. No image is rejected because it's cliche. That's for the voting audience to decide.

Jazakum Allahu Khayr for your question.
