Both Text and Audio Khutbahs work for me...just depends on what i'm doing...but if i had to choose one....i'd say audio khutbahs are more beneficial.

Re: Online Audio or Online Text? Which is more beneficial?

Audio is the need of the hour too. In a sense most of the knowledge that flowed from the earlier salafs was in speech.

Although there are records of written text and writing down of knowledge, but somewhere I feel the art of paying attention needs to be revived.

TV has more to do with colors than speech. So we discount that medium and focus more on retaining the talks and speeches through practice & of course more attentive listening.

AA,

On the Net:

Audio: is better b/c you get to hear the lecturers style and feel the emotion. It faster and easier to listen. Negatives: many times you hear an Ayah or Hadith but its never referenced and you end up spending forever trying to find it. Audio is good for downloading to my computer and then I can listen to it whenever (I usually never listen to anything on the Net except for the Quran)

Witten: Is better b/c I can go on my own pace, focus on certain aspects and is must better for research and really absorbing the knowledge. The Quran & Hadith are referenced. We can print it and ponder over it, write notes on page, etc. If I’m going to give a khutbah or lecture, I don’t have time to listen to a bunch of lectures to get ideas, I prefer scanning through the text for Quran, Hadith, Stories and their explanations.

Overall,

The issue of Khutabs, there are very few which are written and I personal think it’s needed. For personal use, I’ll usually listen to a khutbah 1st…but for research, I prefer the text.

I look forward to my daily commute so I can listen to the audios.

As for the computer/online-then text is easier to absorb-unless its an online halaqa-then a mixture of audio and text goes well.

I prefer audio because you are more 'into' the lecture. Although I also like reading, u can listen to the audio whenever and wherever. So audio is more versatile.

Re: Online Audio or Online Text? Which is more beneficial?

salams,
i really like audio, because when presented with a HUGE blob of text, sometimes I'm just like, "this is too much." But the same khutbah, on a disk or what not, I will listen to it from start to finish and be like, "Mashallah, that was AWESOME!" So, for me, audio is really good.
wasalams.

Asalamoliqum

I prefere Audio, although it would be nice to have a summary of the key points of the khutab as well so that one can go over them and refer to them when needed.

Ditto. Protect the audio so it cannot be downloaded and distributed. Have a study package to follow up with or the summary as Kiran suggested. A quizz or two would be nice and or an interractive activity if the khutba will be used for a group study.

Audio all the way!

Re: Online Audio or Online Text? Which is more beneficial?

Assalamualaykum ~!

I vote for AUDIO....
Audio lectures by Sheikh Muhammad moved me to tears everytime I listen to them. My favourite one is 'Regret' ... oh well I love all of them

and....maybe a reference to which surah&verse that Sheikh uses in his lectures. I mean, that's the only reason why I read the online text...to find out the references.

So... yeah..AUDIO and REFERENCES
Jazakumullah khair
