Asalamu Alaikum WaRahmat Allahu WaBarakatu
I Was just asked a question & got stomped on it .. In Islam, When a person finds an item of jewelry (ie ring, bracelet) & its been unclaimed for 3 years ... since its 2 years past 'halaal' for the 'finder' to keep it: (Do they pay 3 years worth of Zakat for it) Or (Do they go 2 the store, get an estimate & give that amount as Sadaqah, & start its Zakat year fresh from that moment) Jazakullahu Khairun

Re: Zakat on Lost-N-Found Jewelry
wAllahu 'alam,
If - after following the lost property regulations - the gold has come to the possession of the finder, then they have to pay zakah on it because it has become their property. So yes, they would need to go back and pay the zakah due. Weigh it and then pay 2.5 % if it's over 85grams. And Allah knows best |
