Re: Ramadan Gift Baskets

As'salaamu Alaykum-

Insha Allah everyone enjoyed their Eid! Let's take this time to post the reactions of our neighbors from their Eid Gift Baskets. Alhamdulillaah, My neighbor was very shocked (he is college aged)-he grabbed his chest and was like, "OMG! I can't believe you guys do things like this, OMG! Thats so cool" We told him if ever needed anything from us just to kock, its our way of life to make sure those who have rights over us (neighbor included) are comfortable.

I included a da'wah pamphlet (A Walk Along the Beach) and our 'AskMeAbout Islam' cards. We try to do things like this for him often, asking if his trash needs taken out, letting him know we are on our way to the store (in-case he needs anything). We've shared Islam with him before, however, this is the first time he's getting a gift from us.

May Allaah guide him to Islam and enable us to make da'wah, Ameen.

Eid Mubarak.

Re: Ramadan Gift Baskets

now THAT is soooo amazing!

Jazakillaah kheirun for the awesome ideas!! Hmm so what books do you add in it? and that looks like a lot of candies... is it meant to be per person? lol

I'm guessing its an amazing idea to give one basket per department, per club... ?

Assalaamu alaykum,

MashaAllaah, really pretty baskets!
Does anyone where we can get free online pamphlets/cards that we can insert in these baskets? If someone has made one already.. then please do share!

Also, what kinda dawah material shd be given to our muslim (non practising) neighbors? Any ideas?

Barak Allaahu feekum

Re: Ramadan Gift Baskets

Personally, the very first time I give something, or the first few times, I wouldn't want to put da'wah material. It would make your nice act seem a little less sincere. If its an old neighbor, by all means. But for a new contact, doing random acts of kindness, so that dialogue begins, for me, is important. Then, the opportunity to present a pamphlet or talk will be accepted easier.

And keep it simple too. If you just got a watermelon, cut up the other half, and drop it off. Made tea? Keep some of those styrofoam cups w/ the lids, and pour some in, and take it while its hot w/ some cookies, chocolates or biscuits. People hardley talk to their neighbros anymore in America it seems. So, anything you do is something out of the ordinary. But make it sincere!

And if you have kids, let them make Ramadan cookies Anything kids do is loved and accepted. (but be prepared to start getting x-mas gifts later. My old neighbor before I moved started bringing us cookies and chocolates after we initiated when we moved in, plus during Ramdan. and oh...watch out for the wine in the finer chocolates. I've had to throw out quite a number...)
