Ways one can pray for ones deceased parents
Salam aliekum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh
I took the ROE class recently in Toronto, masha-Allah it was amazing. In the class we learned that one of the rights of parents over their children after death is that their children pray for them. An example given in class of this is their children praying Salatul Janazah over them. I was wondering what other ways there may be that one can pray for ones deceased parents apart from the above example given in class? Jazak-Allah khayr |

Re: Ways one can pray for ones deceased parents
'Alaikum As-salaam wa rahmatAllahi wa barakaatuhu,
A story from 'Abdullah ibn Az-Zubayr radyAllahu 'anh, after his father Az-Zubayr ibn Al-'Awwaam radyAllahu 'anh became a shaheed. He said that "For one year, I made no other du'a other than that Allah forgive my father." And this was in his sujood. As the Prophet salAllahu a'laihee wa sallam said, "The closest a person is to His Lord is when he is in prostration (sujood)." (Sahih Muslim). So we should INCREASE in our 'adiyyah (supplications) in this position, verily 'the Shortest distance between a problem and a solution is the distance between one's head and the ground.' And just as a side note just to remind myself, that we should seek solace in this position. People often complain to the creation but rarely to their Creator. What better way to 'vent' than to humble yourself in the lowest of positions, yet highest in the sight of Allah ta'la, and beg to Allah the Lord of the Worlds for your needs and anxieties. By the One whom our souls are in His Hands, if we spent more time in sujood complaining to the Creator, we wouldn't have so many complaints with the creation. May Allah grant us a heart of contentment and purify our hearts and steadfast on this deen, just asking for Allah ta'la to "Ya rabbi.. let me Hold On! Let me just hold on to this deen and stay steadfast!" This is the least we can do, that in each sujood we can make du'a to our parents. Allahumaghfirli Ummi wa Abbi (Oh Allah Forgive my Mother and my Father!). Maybe because of this action, du'a to our parents, that Allah may forgive us... There are times where du'a is accepted and manners in giving du'a you can if you wish listen to Sheikh Yasir Qadhi's lecture series: Dua': The Weapon of the Believer (9 parts) here based on his book by the same title. Re: Ways one can pray for ones deceased parents
From shaykh Anwar al-Awlaki's "Hereafter" CD's, I learned that a person will start ascending to higher levels in jannaah even though they wouldnt have good deeds... so they'll ask why they are being raised and it will be said to them...
Your children prayed for your forgiveness, did astaghfar... for you. Subhanallaah. May Allaah forgive our parents and grant them highlest level in jannaah (Ameen thumma ameen). here is a dua : http://www.makedua.com/display_dua.php?sectionid=52 Also, its really important to teach our children these duas, so they can pray for us when we die as well.

Re: Ways one can pray for ones deceased parents
For me personally, the du'a for my parents that I find the most comfort in, is the one Allah SWT Himself teaches us in the Quran
![]() Thy Lord hath decreed that ye worship none but Him, and that ye be kind to parents. Whether one or both of them attain old age in thy life, say not to them a word of contempt, nor repel them, but address them in terms of honour. ![]() And, out of kindness, lower to them the wing of humility, and say: "My Lord! bestow on them thy Mercy even as they cherished me in childhood." [17:23-24] Read this du'a in your sujood, pray Qiyam ul Layl and read it in your sujood. This du'a is really powerful Truly we neglect the rights of our parents so much
