Question for Shayk Yaser - meaning of: Women 'Naqisaat Aql' ?

Asalama aleikom, dear shayk i hope you and your famiyl are doing fine. Dear shayk i have question about the next hadeeth found in Bukhari's sahih:

Quote:

Sahih Bukhari, Arabic-English translation, vol. 1, Hadith nr. 301

Narrated on the authority of Abu Said Al-Khudri: Once Allah's Apostle went out to the Musalla to offer the prayer on 'Id-al-Adha or Al-Fitr prayer. Then he passed by the women and said, ‘O women ! Give alms, as I have seen that the majority of the dwellers of Hell-fire were you (women).’ They asked, ‘Why is it so, O Allah’s Apostle ? ‘ He replied, ‘You curse frequently and are ungrateful to your husbands. I have not seen anyone more defficient in intelligence and religion than you. A cautious sensible man could be led astray by some of you.’ The women asked, ‘O Allah's Apostle! What is deficient in our intelligence and religion ?’ He said, ‘Is not the evidence of two women equal to the witness of one man ?’They replied in the affirmative. He said, ‘This is the deficiency in her intelligence. Isn't it true that a woman can neither pray nor fast during her menses? ‘ The women replied in the affirmative. He said, ‘This is the deficiency in her religion.’
Dear shayk i have been told that the translation of the Arabic phrase "Naqisati 'Aql wa Din" as "Defficient in intelligence and religion" is kinda misleading and inaccurate. However due to lack my of knowledge in the Arabic language, i would like to know what a correct and proper translation of the arabic phrase "Naqisati 'Aql wa Din" would be, in the context of this hadeeth. Unfortunate no one has been able to tell me how this hadeeth should be translated, moreover no has told me the meaning of this hadeeth [ how should we interpretate this narration ] . Dear Shayk i hope you can help me out on this. May Allah reward you for your good works.

ma salama

Re: Question for Shayk Yaser - meaning of: Women 'Naqisaat Aql' ?

InshaAllah I actually do hope Sheikh Yasir can answer this, he mentioned the hadith and explained that it was actually a compliment to women due to the underlined statement "A cautious and sensible man." He then stated that testimony (underlined below as well) has nothing to do with one's intelligence level. He then mentioned that ONE woman's testimony is acceptable in relation to women's issues. He said that the Hadith of one women's testimony that she breastfed a husband and wife was enough to have them separated since they were now forbidden for each other since she had breastfed both of them. But Sheikh Yasir can you please give the reference for this hadith? I hope this suffices until the Sheikh can further clarify with that other evidence. JazakAllah

Was salaam
It was narrated that Abu Sa’eed al-Khudri said:

“The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) went out to the Musalla on the day of Eid al-Adha or Eid al-Fitr. He passed by the women and said, ‘O women! Give charity, for I have seen that you form the majority of the people of Hell.’ They asked, ‘Why is that, O Messenger of Allaah?’ He replied, ‘You curse frequently and are ungrateful to your husbands. I have not seen anyone more deficient in intelligence and religious commitment than you. A cautious sensible man could be led astray by some of you.’ The women asked, ‘O Messenger of Allaah, what is deficient in our intelligence and religious commitment?’ He said, ‘Is not the testimony of two women equal to the testimony of one man?’ They said, ‘Yes.’ He said, ‘This is the deficiency in her intelligence. Is it not true that a woman can neither pray nor fast during her menses?’ The women said, ‘Yes.’ He said, ‘This is the deficiency in her religious commitment.’”

Re: Question for Shayk Yaser - meaning of: Women 'Naqisaat Aql' ?

As salaamu alaikum,
which hadith are you referring to? The one that I posted or the hadith about the woman who breastfed a husband and wife? I need a reference for the woman's testifying that she breastfed the couple, which caused them to void the marriage contract. Sheikh Yasir mentioned the hadith in the class, but did not mention where the hadith can be found. InshaAllah when he has the time he will be able to provide the hadith collection where this narration can be found.

Salaam

Re: Question for Shayk Yaser - meaning of: Women 'Naqisaat Aql' ?

Salaam,
I know it took forever, but i did find the hadith(I think). I am no muhaddith in fact I'm far from it, so could someone please confirm whether this is the hadith referred to by the Shaikh.
Salaam,
Myte
Sahih Bukhari
Volume 7, Book 62, Number 41:
Narrated 'Uqba bin Al-Harith:

I married a woman and then a black lady came to us and said, "I have suckled you both (you and your wife)." So I came to the Prophet and said, "I married so-and-so and then a black lady came to us and said to me, 'I have suckled both of you.' But I think she is a liar." The Prophet turned his face away from me and I moved to face his face, and said, "She is a liar." The Prophet said, "How (can you keep her as your wife) when that lady has said that she has suckled both of you? So abandon (i.e., divorce) her (your wife)."

Why doesnt the brother contact her father straight? Approaching her directly may cause the doors of fitnah to open, better to avoid it.
