Thumbs up Sabr

Bismillah.

As-Salaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh,

Quote:
`Umar Ibn Al-khattab - "Mix With Those Who Have Patience For Their Hearts Are The Softest"

`Umar bin `Abd al-`Azeez said: He who acts without knowledge causes more corruption than good, and he who does not consider his speech to be part of his actions sins repeatedly. Satisfaction is scarce, and the true believer should rely on patience. Allaah never bestowed a blessing upon one of His servants and then took it away from him, giving him patience in return for that which was taken away, except that the replacement was better than what was taken away from him." Then he recited the following verse: "Surely the patient will be paid their wages in full without reckoning." [39:10]
Quote:
Abdullah asked his father one day, "Abi when will we ever relax?" His father (Imam Ahmad rahimahullah), one of the greatest revivers of the Sunnah, a role model for all Muslims, looked him in the eye and said, "With the first step we take into Jannah."
Was-Salaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh.

The Patience of Noble People and the Patience of Ignoble People

By Imam Ibn ul Qayyim al Jawziyyah
Patience and Gratitude - an abridged translation of `Uddat as-Sabirin wa Dhakhirat ash-Shakirin

Every person has to exercise patience in order to face difficulties, whether he does so willingly or unwillingly. The noble person exercises patience willingly, because he realizes the benefits of patience, and he knows that he will be rewarded for his patience and will be criticized if he panics. He is aware that if he does not have patience, panicking and impatience will not help him to regain missed opportunities, and will not take away things he dislikes. Whatever is decreed and is qada' wa qadr cannot be prevented from happening, and whatever is decreed not to happen cannot be made to happen. So an attitude of impatience and panic actually causes harm.

A wise man said: "A man with wisdom as soon as adversity appears does that which a foolish man does after a month (i.e. he resorts to patience)".

The ignoble man exercises patience only when he realizes he has no choice. After wasting a lot of time and energy and panicking and struggling, he realizes that his impatience will not help him. Then he exercises patience in the same way that a person who has been tied up to be whipped exercises patience.

The noble person practices patience in obeying Allah, whilst the ignoble person exercises patience in obeying the Shaytan. So ignoble person have the greatest patience in following their own whims and desires, and have the least patience in obeying their Lord. They have the greatest patience in spending in the way of Shaytan and no patience when it comes to spending even a few pennies in the way of Allah.
They will endure many difficulties in order to follow their own whims and desires, but cannot bear even the least difficulties in order to please their Lord. They will endure slander for the sake of committing wrong action, but cannot exercise patience in putting up with slander for the sake of Allah. Such people will avoid enjoining the good and forbidding the evil for fear of what people will say about them for doing so, but they will expose their honour to slander and bear it most patiently for the sake of following their own whims and desires.

Similarly, they are not prepared to practise patience in devoting themselves to Allah, but when it comes to devoting themselves to Shaytan and their own whims and desires, they will exercise remarkable patience. Such people will never be noble in the sight of Allah, and on the Day of Resurrection they will not be raised with the people of nobility and decency.

[020:132] And enjoin As-Salāt (the prayers) on your family, and be patient in offering them [i.e. the Salāt (prayers)]. We ask not of you a provision (i.e. to give Us something: money): We provide for you. And the good end (i.e. Paradise) is for the Muttaqūn (the pious. See V.2:2).

[2:153] O you who believe! Seek help in patience and As-Salat (the prayer). Truly! Allah is with As-Sabirin (the patient ones, etc.).

[2.155] And certainly, We shall test you with something of fear, hunger, loss of wealth, lives and fruits, but give glad tidings to As-Sābirūn (the patient).

Al-'Imran [142] Do you think that you will enter Paradise before Allah tests those of you who fought (in His Cause) and (also) tests those who are As-Sabirin (the patient ones, etc.)?

Al-A'raf [128] Musa (Moses) said to his people: "Seek help in Allah and be patient...."
[008:046] And obey Allāh and His Messenger [sws] and do not dispute (with one another) lest you lose courage and your strength departs, and be patient. Surely, Allāh is with those who are As-Sābirūn (the patient).

[Ar-Ra'd: 22] And those who remain patient, seeking their Lord's Countenance, perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and spend out of that which We have bestowed on them, secretly and openly, and defend evil with good, for such there is a good end;

[016:042] (They are) those who remained patient (in this world for Allāh's sake), and put their trust in their Lord (Allāh Alone).

[016:096] Whatever is with you, will be exhausted, and whatever is with Allāh (of good deeds) will remain. And those who are patient, We will certainly pay them a reward in proportion to the best of what they used to do.

[An-Nahl: 127] And endure you patiently (O Muhammad ), your patience is not but from Allah. And grieve not over them (polytheists and pagans, etc.), and be not distressed because of what they plot.

[Al-Kahf :28] And keep yourself (O Muhammad ) patiently with those who call on their Lord (i.e. your companions who remember their Lord with glorification, praising in prayers, etc., and other righteous deeds, etc.) morning and afternoon, seeking His Face, and let not your eyes overlook them, desiring the pomp and glitter of the life of the world; and obey not him whose heart We have made heedless of Our Remembrance, one who follows his own lusts and whose affair (deeds) has been lost.

[019:065] Lord of the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, so worship Him (Alone) and be constant and patient in His worship. Do you know of any who is similar to Him? (of course none is similar or co-equal or comparable to Him, and He has none as partner with Him.) (There is nothing like Him and He is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer.)

[021:085] And (remember) Isma'īl (Ishmael), Idrīs and Dhul-Kifl (Isaiah): all were from among As-Sābirūn (the patient).

[028:080] But those who had been given (religious) knowledge said: "Woe to you! The reward of Allāh (in the Hereafter) is better for those who believe and do righteous good deeds, and this none shall attain except those who are As-Sābirūn (the patient in following the truth)."

[029:059] Those who are patient, and put their trust (only) in their Lord (Allāh).

[030:060] So be patient (O Muhammad [sws]). Verily, the Promise of Allāh is true; and let not those who have no certainty of Faith discourage you from conveying Allāh's Message (which you are obliged to convey).

[031:031] See you not that the ships sail through the sea by Allāh's Grace that He may show you of His Signs? Verily, in this are signs for every patient, grateful (person).

[038:017] Be patient (O Muhammad [sws]) of what they say, and remember Our slave Dāwūd (David), endued with power. Verily, he was ever oft-returning in all matters and in repentance (towards Allāh).

[Ghafir: 55] So be patient (O Muhammad ). Verily, the Promise of Allah is true, and ask forgiveness for your fault, and glorify the praises of your Lord in the Ashi (i.e. the time period after the midnoon till sunset) and in the Ibkar (i.e. the time period from early morning or sunrise till before midnoon) [it is said that, that means the five compulsory congregational Salat (prayers) or the 'Asr and Fajr prayers].

[040:055] So be patient (O Muhammad [sws]). Verily, the Promise of Allāh is true, and ask forgiveness for your fault, and glorify the praises of your Lord in the 'Ashī (i.e. the time period after the midnoon till sunset) and in the Ibkār (i.e. the time period from early morning or sunrise till before midnoon) [it is said that, that means the five compulsory congregational Salāt (prayers) or the 'Asr and Fajr prayers].

[040:077] So be patient (O Muhammad [sws]), verily, the Promise of Allāh is true and whether We show you (O Muhammad [sws] in this world) some part of what We have promised them, or We cause you to die, then still it is to Us they all shall be returned.

[046:035] Therefore be patient (O Muhammad [sws]) as did the Messengers of strong will and be in no haste about them (disbelievers). On the Day when they will see that (torment) with which they are promised (i.e. threatened, it will be) as if they had not stayed more than an hour in a single day. (O mankind! this Qur'ān is sufficient as) a clear Message (or proclamation to save yourself from destruction). But shall any be destroyed except the people who are Al-Fāsiqūn (rebellious against Allāh's Command, disobedient to Allāh

[At-Tur: 48] So wait patiently (O Muhammad ) for the Decision of your Lord, for verily, you are under Our Eyes , and glorify the Praises of your Lord when you get up from sleep.

[068:048] So, wait with patience for the Decision of your Lord, and be not like the Companion of the Fish – when he cried out (to Us) while he was in deep sorrow. (See Verse 21:87)

[Al-Ma'arij: 19] Verily, man (disbeliever) was created very impatient;

[Al-Muddathir:7] And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)!

[076:024] Therefore be patient (O Muhammad [sws]) with constancy to the Command of your Lord (Allāh, by doing your duty to Him and by conveying His Message to mankind), and obey neither a sinner nor a disbeliever among them.

'Truly with hardship comes ease' (94: 6)

Surah Al-Asr
1 By Al-'Asr (the time).
2 Verily! Man is in loss,
3 Except those who believe (in Islamic Monotheism) and do righteous good deeds, and recommend one another to the truth (i.e. order one another to perform all kinds of good deeds (Al-Ma'ruf)which Allah has ordained, and abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds (Al-Munkar)which Allah has forbidden), and recommend one another to patience.

hadith: "Strange is the affair of the Mu'min (the believer), verily all his affairs are good for him. If something pleasing befalls him he thanks (Allah) and it becomes better for him. And if something harmful befalls him he is patient (Saabir) and it becomes better for him. And this is only for the Mu'mmin "

… And whoever remains patient, Allah will make him patient. Nobody can be given a blessing better and greater than patience. (Bukhari)

The Messenger of Allaah sws told a women crying over the grave of her husband, "Maintain Taqwaa and be patient." Later on he explained to her, "The real Sabr (patience) is that which is demonstrated at the initial shock." (Reported from Anas in Bukhaari and Muslim)

Allah's Apostle (sws) said: "Strange are the ways of a believer for there is good in every affair of his and this is not the case with anyone else except in the case of a believer for if he has an occasion to feel delight, he thanks (God), thus there is a good for him in it, and if he gets into trouble and shown resignation (and endures it patiently), there is a good for him in it".

Narrated by Suhaib ibn Sinan ar-Rumi (ra); Muslim transmitted it. Hadith No.5297 of Mishkat al-Masabih.

The Prophet (sws) passed by a woman who was weeping beside a grave. He told her to fear Allah and be patient. She said to him, "Go away, for you have not been afflicted with a calamity like mine." And she did not recognize him. Then she was informed that he was the Prophet (sws). So she went to the house of the Prophet (sws) and there she did not find any guard. Then she said to him, "I did not recognize you." He (sws) said, "Verily, the patience is at the first stroke of a calamity."

Narrated by Anas bin Malik (ra); Sahih Bukhari transmitted it. Vol 2:#372 of Sahih Bukhari.

Re: Sabr

A very beautiful reminder, indeed. Jazaki'Allah khair!
