Could someone please give evidences and detail explanations why we shouldn't read the fortune cookies ? Jazakumullahu Khaeran |

Walaikum asalaam,
The severity of going to a fortune-teller is such that the Prophet (saws) said: "The prayer of one who approaches a fortune-teller and asks him about anything, will not be accepted for forty days or nights"Reported by Muslim - Eng. Trans. Vol.4, p.1211, No.5540 and: "Whosoever approaches a fortune-teller and believes in what he says, has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammed" (Reported by Ahmed) |

This is roughly what shaykh Yasir said in class:
.. so if it's haram to go to a fortune teller, is it okay if the fortune teller comes to you? what if you write the fortune teller a letter and he/she responds to that letter? what if he/she publishes that fortune in a newspaper? what if that fortune is in a cookie? so pretty much the idea it that any manifestation of the above hadith is considered "going to a fortune teller" regardless of whether or not you believe or not that the fortune is true or not. wa Allahu a`lam.
