Exclamation Khutbahs put me to SLEEP!

Do you know the feeling? Are you content to simply complain, or do you want to help me do something about it?

"Yes! Finally!" you might be thinking, "Grab your torches, everybody! Down with the uncles!"

Wrong.

I've noticed that a lot of the uncles giving khutbahs have amazing, amazing potential. All they need to do is refine their technique of delivery a little and they'll be giving some super awesome khutbahs, in sha Allah.

So instead of tearing down the uncles, we're going to help them become better. All it's going to take is a printer and a designated brother sitting in the first row during every jumuah at your masjid.

Bismi Allah,

Step 1: Print out the attached Word document. It's a letter that will teach the khateeb how to give awesome khutbahs.
Step 2: Fold it (or put it in an envelope) and stash it in your pocket.
Step 3: Sit in the first row during the jumuah khutbah (if you're a sister, you can give it to your brother/husband/father and have him sit in the front row).
Step 4: If you think the khateeb can benefit from the document, pull it out from your pocket and hand it to him after the prayer.
Step 5: Make dua that he benefits from your naseehah.

So who's going to help me in this? If you're down with, in sha Allah, printing out the document and using it at your next jumuah (and every jumuah thereafter, if you like), post here with a special dua for this success of this project.

Jazaakum Allahu khaira!

Re: Khutbahs put me to SLEEP!

SubhanAllah! Just today, while the khateeb was speaking i caught my self following the pattern on the carpet 3 times instead of concentrating on the khutbah. I was drowning in guilt but I really wasn't able to direct my full attention to the khutbah because of the way it was being presented and also it was hard to understand what was being said(very thick accent). Alhumdulilah though, i was able to walk out with the main points that were presented in the khutbah.

In other words:: JazakumAllahu Khairun for triggering this discussion. It is needed.

May Allah grant this project success and may He also grant us all knowledge and wisdom which we can implement. Ameen!!

Re: Khutbahs put me to SLEEP!

Subhan Allah, I've been looking for this for a while now. Jazakum Allahu khayr for putting it together.

From what I understand from khateebs, however, the ideal situation would be to:
1. give him the paper
2. explain it to him
3. let him practice giving a speech, following the abcs to the dot.
4. give him positive and constructive feedback.
5. let him try again.

In the end, all khateebs want their speeches to be effective. If you are merciful with them and in sha Allah they get the message, their new found delivery will be in YOUR scale of good deeds on the day of ressurection (without taking away from their good deeds, Allah is so Merciful).

Re: Khutbahs put me to SLEEP!

MashaAllah good project.

Just a couple points to broaden the focus...

I'm pretty sure there are archetypical uncles out there who are excellent orators...so it will be awesome if some uncles' weakness are not generalized on all uncles.

Some orators with perfect accent can also be very boring/frustrating as they might need practice with staying on topic...(instead of straying)!

Wallahu Alim

PS: When Khutbahs put humans to sleep, it's not always the Khateeb's fault.

Re: Khutbahs put me to SLEEP!

I think this is an excellent initiative but what I find sad is that many of the situations in masajid are not even at the level to be given this naseehah. The reason being that they do not address the khutba in the local language. There are eight masajid in my city that I know of and not a single one of them do their khutbas in English.

Re: Khutbahs put me to SLEEP!

This seems like a great piece of Nasee7a, mashaAllaah! Barakallahu Feekum for the tips. Ill try and pass it around to the brothers as well.

Is it alright if the article is translated into another language and then passed around? Majority of the Khateebs here give their Khutbahs in bangla, so if the article is first translated to bangla then it would serve the purpose for the bangla speaking Khateebs. If the english version is given they may understand some of it, but max portion of the article will just go right over their heads. So is it alright if article if translated then given out?

Yes, definitely you can translate it! Please post the translated version as a Word document attachment in this thread so other Bengali sisters and brothers can benefit as well! Maybe you can even post it on a Bengali Muslim forum too.

So who else wants to, in sha Allah, help our existing khateebs become outstanding (if they aren't already)? Who else is wants to participate in this project?

Question Re: Khutbahs put me to SLEEP!

Wa 'alaikum as-salaam,

Jazaakum Allahu khairan for participating, Faiez!

By the way, this isn't just for masjids. It can be used in MSAs that hold jumuah khutbahs as well.

Who else is in?

Re: Khutbahs put me to SLEEP!

Bismillah

As'salamu Alaikum - Very cool idea, masha'Allah! I definatley think that this should be passed to those in MSAs as well. It would be great to hear from people, at some point, if they did hand it out, how it was recieved, and if it was implemented.

Regardless, may Allah reward you for this effort.
