Changes in number of rakahs for each salah?

I learned the following in a halaqa recently:
Quote:
- in the early Makkan period, Muslims prayed twice a day (in the morning and at night)
- at al-Isra' wal-Mi'raj, salah was made fard for Muslims 5 times a day, but the number of rakahs for each salah was only 2
- in the early Madinan period, the number of rakahs for each salah was increased to 4, with the exception of fajr and maghrib
The parts in bold are completely new to me. Our halaqa leader didn't know at what time the number of rakahs were changed and she didn't mention if it was by Qur'an or hadith. I don't know if you guys covered this in class (I haven't taken TPA yet), but if anyone knows more information about this, please share JazakumAllahu khayran

Re: Changes in number of rakahs for each salah?

Wa-alaikum Assalam,

it is in an authentic hadeeth mentioned by 'Aisha (RA) and it is in either Abu Dawood or Tirmidhi. Shaikh Yaser covered it in the Fiqh Of Salaah class in the section called the history of Salaah.

Wallahu 'Alem.
