Re: Halal and Haram of Chocolate

Assalamu 'alaikum,

Issue of Chocolate Products:

I also take the approach of a K sign or U sign being on a product before I eat it. I have found it to a safe approach. And am yet to find gelatin or any other crazy obviously haraam ingredients on the products i consume.

Issue of Alcohol in Food:

sr. Sara, you opened a can of worms upon a can of worms. So basically, what is being said is that the alcohol in these products may be to such an extent that it can intoxicate a person.

Vanilla extract is off the list of mine, i guess. jazakallahu khairan.

Issue of Cheese Products:

This is completely separate from cheese rennet and its halality. For that issue, the Hanafi and Ibn Taymiyyah position on the cheese rennet is the stronger position, it seems. And this was shaikh Yaser's conclusion as well in "Of mice and men: the cheese factor."

And one last thing:

Doubts should be things we avoid but the doubts must have some evidence. The principle is absolute certainty cannot be removed by mere doubt. You cannot just avoid food products because of your personal views on kosher and how bad the rabbis might seem to you.

Wallahu 'Alem
