Durbah Teaches Conquest Class

Assalamu Alaikum,

I thought I would start a new thread since there are a few Durbah members interested in teaching the Conquest class to their Sunday schools or communities...

I found the following link to lectures and

POWERPOINT Slides

on another thread....

The AlQadissiyah one is amazing...may Allah reward the brother who took the time to make it...

Re: Durbah Teaches Conquest Class

i was talkin wit my dad about the whole conquest curricilum and wut im gonna teach and how. The problem that i ran into was providing the students with books. as external reading. I will be teaching out of my notes and the History of Islaam book. The history of Islaam book is to expensive for the masjid to buy for each student and the parents of the students will not be willing to pay for the book. So wut woudl be a good alternative for the students to reffer to when they are out of class for assignments or extrareading. A book that ouldnt cost more than 10-20 bucks...?

Re: Durbah Teaches Conquest Class

I don't have any suggestions regarding less expensive books the students can read outside of class, but here is an option regarding the History of Islam book...

Ask if the Masjid can order at least 2 to 3 copies of the History of Islam book for our library, or just ask the librarian to order it. You can ask the librarian to strictly keep those books on reserve for our students (insha Allah I will speak to Imam Qureshi tomorrow and tell him I'm interested in teaching the sisters). What we do then is tell our students to borrow the books in pairs and read up on specific events and perhaps report back to the class on what they read, for example. The next week the students just rotate and another pair or pairs can take the book out.

Re: Durbah Teaches Conquest Class

i dont know if only 2-3 copies will be sufficient. if there are a totla of 10 students then you will need 5 sets of books. that is about 350 bucks. Idk if the majid budjet will allow for that..but its worth giving a try.

btw...salim...
the link you provided us with doesnt work...

Insha Allah they can afford $350; that's tuition for 3 students so insha Allah the Masjid can afford it. But if for some reason they can't, that's why the students can alternate when borrowing the books from the library.

History of the Khulafa - by Suyuti

I own a copy which I bought from Dar us Salaam in Brooklyn. Very easy to read. The kids will enjoy it.

I would suggest they read the book prior to class so the stuff you teach would not be too foreign.

YM is having a week-long camp themed "Lives of the Khulafa arRashideen" in the end of August. If they attend this, they will be quite ready for the class Inshallah.

Re: Durbah Teaches Conquest Class

Another book you can try out is something that is already in the Sunday School curriculum- "The History of Al-Khilafah Ar-Rashidah" by Dr. Abdullah al-Ahsan. I'm sure you guys are familiar w/ it...its kind of on an elementary level compared to the contents of the Al Maghrib course but perhaps it would be a good supplement to the class. And it comes w/ a fun workbook! Check it out and see if it goes well w/ the course contents.

Re: Durbah Teaches Conquest Class

i believe that was the book i was given. upon seeing the simplicity and lack of information in the book by dad felt taht he needed to do a bit of home schooling in the field of history. ALl you learn from that book is there wer 4 khalifas, they fought the byzanteen empire and there were a group of people called the discontent and then 30 years ended some of them were assassinated and then islam flourished.....lol
