Re: The Millionaire who went to Jannah

For the record, I am not hurt at all. It's actually been an interesting discussion.

It's my nature to be frank, but I apologize if that frankness hurt anyone.

If you've followed my posts on the forum for the past year, this has been like the "only" time I've gone on with a discussion for this length of time. (When was the last time someone read me correcting someone on the forum? Never, eh?)

Here is what I have benefitted from you:
I appreciate that you were not frightened to discuss things with me. Barak Allahu feeki. Most people will just give up.

I appreciate that you shared what was in your heart and did not try to sugar quote it.

I appreciate your comments and how they made me look deeper into what i was saying so that I could learn more.

I'm pretty much done. I've said what I've said.
...Is there another twist to this thread?...

Sr.Shining: you say you have left ... BUT??? *smile* (How come I am not allowed to say the last word?).

I agree. Calling someone repeatedly by their surname isn't ideal and doesn't particularly breed mutual respect.

For clarity i'm not a spokesperson here. It's an open forum!

Wealth seems to be a heightened issue these days but it certainly isn't new. It existed at the time of the Prophet S and exhibited in extremities by his Companions but in stark contrast to our discussions today. A million is an arbitrary value and belongings are far from the reflection of one's wealth.

There is nothing in Islam that can be construed to forbid the ownership of much money, or wealth. The survival of the Muslims in the early years and mobilisation of Muslim armies were largely dependent on a few wealthy Muslims, namely Khadija and Uthman (may Allah be pleased with them both). Both were guaranteed places in Jannah!

Imagine the ability and immense satisfaction in
- spending on your family
- giving continuous charity to the poor, orphaned etc
- discharging Zakat ie 'have your wealth cleansed'
- peforming Hajj and Umrah, annually
- sponsoring students of knowledge
- employing many
- building schools and Islamic institutions
- becoming a community that is financially self-sufficient

Must be great! Perhaps only a few can see these benefits? What do you think? And being rich is not synonymous with hoarding wealth, like some might have you to believe.

My objection is against those that attempt to demonise wealth and those wealthy. There's a growing trend of Muslims jumping on the socialite and philosophical bandwagon in attempting to explain concepts in Islam. It just doesn't sit well with me.

May Allah enable us to do all of that, and even more...
The only worry is, money changes people, so I pray that our intentions remain pure for the sake of Allah throughout our lives...may every cent spent from us be for His sake only azza wa jal...

Please forgive me Shining seasons if I offended you in my original post...If I ever want to become a millionaire, it will be so that I am able to do all that which is listed in the quote above and even more inshaAllah...and I will not let fear stop me bi ithnillah

Ya Ustadh, you have no idea who you are dealing with

I was surprised that you lasted this long, and a gem for me: use humor to close out

Alhamdulillah I think this is a very good interesting thread.

Things should be allowed to be discussed openly and with frankness.

And inshaAllaah what is haqq will shine through......

Agreed, but openness and frankness does not mean we can throw away respect or adab.

Thread temporarily locked until people can settle down.
