all sins can lead to hell, if treated with impunity.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) warned his Companions against committing even the most minor of sins. He said to them: “Avoid even the most trivial of sins, for they can gather up upon a man until they destroy him.” [Musnad Ahmad (2808)]

In one narration it is related that the Prophet (peace be upon him) then said: “Indeed, the most trivial sins, when they are taken up by someone, they lead to his ruin.” [Musnad Ahmad (22302)]

Ibn Mas`ûd said: “The most wanton person is the one who sees his sins to be like a fly that alights upon his nose that he can just brush away. Would that it were true.

The believer, on the other hand, sees his sins to be like a mountain about to fall down on him. Therefore, he is scared and takes stock of himself.”

Trivial sins are those that people generally pay little regard to, so they do not seek to avoid them. However, we are warned that if someone commits them excessively, they will be his ruin.

the "the" in there is kind of misleading.. as the bro hinted to in the post before mine

shirk, disobeying parents, lying, stealing, turning away from the battlefield, lying under oath, zina

Subhanallah I didn’t intend on misleading anyone with the question, I was reading an article and I came across the hadith. The hadith mentioning 7 sins is both recorded by Imam Bukhari and Imam Muslim. (May Allah have mercy on them both)



Jzk Brother Bruce, quite rightly a sin is a sin and can lead to Hell irrespective if it is major or minor. As it is more important not to look at the sin but to look the greatness of the one One you are sinning against.

While little sins can accumulate and lead to one's ruin,

إِن تَجۡتَنِبُواْ ڪَبَآٮِٕرَ مَا تُنۡہَوۡنَ عَنۡهُ نُكَفِّرۡ عَنكُمۡ سَيِّـَٔاتِكُمۡ وَنُدۡخِلۡڪُم مُّدۡخَلاً۬ كَرِيمً۬ا

If you avoid the great sins which you are forbidden to do, We shall expiate from you your small sins, and admit you to a Noble Entrance (Surah Nisa: 31)

The prophet (pbuh) said: "Avoid the seven noxious things" - and after having said this, the Prophet (pbuh) mentioned them: "Associating anything with Allah; magic, killing one whom Allah has declared inviolate without a just cause, consuming the property of an orphan, devouring usury, turning back when the army advances, and slandering chaste women who are believers but indiscreet." (Bukhari and Muslim)

NO!! no sin is greater than shirk or kufr.but then there are branches of shirk and the biggest would be swearing at our Creator Allah SWT!!
