Lightbulb Almaghrib and MSAs

Assalamu alaikum,

Currently, many CUNY MSAs are working toward having an "AMEER" whom they will have a contract with and work under his supervision and instructions. Most-if not all- of the MSAs will be united under his power.
I have few points that could be 7ujaj & Baraheen, but I wish not to disclose them during this period.

Proposal: Almaghrib institute becomes the "AMEER" of these MSAs inshaAllah.
Almaghrib has qualified, experienced, and diversed (not only in nationalities but also in figh....) Shoyookh. Also, it is an organization, not an individual!!!

+ I think this will also help MARKET almaghrib in schools and eventually build the Muslim youth by curing their diseases of ignorance.....

It was very productive for the students in the MSA and allowed for great promotional events etc. right on campus. In my own MSA we're not allowed to promote AlMaghrib at all, no flyers, cards, etc. The concern was due to the fact that a few years ago a "teacher" came to give a talk on campus and ended up taking a few of the students with him to live in the Catskill Mountains during their last two years of undergrad, the organization was known as Osmanli Naks-i'bendi Hakkani Dergahi. New York Times has an article on the case as well. Anyhow, this is usually not the case but sometimes the MSA may choose to opt out of associating itself with a certain group due to being branded as x, y, or z in the future.
JazakEllahu Khairan for shairing.
I completely agree and that is why I proposed that Almaghrib becomes the one!!!
Of course, not EVERYONE will agree but I can say MANY will do so and will be honored to be a part of Almaghrib.
As I mentioned in the 1st post, the process of choosing an AMEER and giving him BAY3AH (funny, sad, and yet true) has started!!!

NOTICE: my first post contains bolded, colored,.....words and phrases that are ESSENTIALS in making my judgements.

Re: Almaghrib and MSAs

In my humble opionion I think MSA get waay to political. I think the whole idea of Almaghrib is to give us the knowledge and we go back and CHANGE our respective communities. The ability for change belongs in our hands. Wouldn't it be better if the bay3ah was given to a very knowledgable brother who happens to take lots of Almaghrib classes? Basically, my point is that we have to be careful not to turn Almaghrib into this HUGE catchall insitution , because with that the whole idea mission of Almaghrib gets real murky. Does that even make sense?

Re: Almaghrib and MSAs

In doing so, Almaghrib would become associated with each of these very diverse organizations, and considering the different goals and approaches of each would be very problematic for both

I agree with Ifteen in that this would change the very nature of this institution.
In terms of marketing Almaghrib, it really helps when brothers and sisters who are active in Almaghrib are also active in their respective Msas. This enables them to invite members towards the Ilm while keeping the two entities separate

Re: Almaghrib and MSAs

To be honest, I remember pitching other ideas like this before and every time- I realized after wards that AlMaghrib has it's own agenda and vision...and it's really an awesome one that they should focus on.

Maybe it would be a better idea to build up our Qabeelahs and make them stronger instead?

Re: Almaghrib and MSAs

When you say bay'ah, you mean they will give the same kind as in time of the khulafaa' or do you mean something else?

We had a Q&A session with sh. Abdul Bary Yahya in TSP in Durbah and this issue of giving bay'ah came up. He said no one can give bay'ah to Islamic organizations or their leaders, though it's within good etiquette to do so. The same issue came up in Sacred Scrolls in the summer, and the same answer was given: One should follow the leaders of Islamic organizations, but bay'ah doesn't apply.

I agree with br. Dawud. AlMaghrib has its own goals, and should keep on 'em. When one loses the original focus, then he or she doesn't get anywhere.
